  1. I fished there yesterday and today. While the surface temp got up in the low 60's, the bottom temp in 5' or more was still in the low 50's. Caught most in the 3'-6' depth range. Yep, caught a bunch both days-no DD though.
  2. The Lowrance DSI unit is DOWN SCAN ONLY. "GPS compatable w/my Powerdrive." What does that mean??? The 581 is not "compatable" with anything. As far as I know, the whole model name is 581i HD DI Combo which is a 2D and Down Imaging unit with GPS. Is there another 581i HD that is not n the Humminbird catalog? BTW the (i) in Humminbird model numbers means internal GPS antenna. There is a discontinued 581i which is a 2D only unit. Exactly what Humminbird are you considering?
  3. I used to have a 30 gal.aquarium in my house. Little fishies, creepy crawlys, petty colored rocks, vegetation, lights, hidey holes, ect. Came home from work one day and the whole front had exploded, tiny chips of glass, dead fish and stuff everywhere and nice colored stains on my light beige carpet. Say NO to aquariums.
  4. Some on-board chargers will blow the ground fuse in a Minnkota bow motor. Know your equipment before you randomly connect stuff togther based on a generic statement. One more thing, is with some installations, that ground loop may be the cause of poor sonar performance.
  5. Attaching a wire between the trolling motor negative and the starting battery negative is one of the resolutions suggested to combat RFI with sonar units. That is called a Ground Loop. Never, ever, connect ALL the battery negatives together if you have a 24V or 36V trolling motor. ONLY connect to the battery negative where the trolling motor negative (black wire) is connected.
  6. Just another example the Elite crybabies even discussing a presentation that is legal for the waters they fish. Quite pathetic, IMHO.
  7. Why don't you know how to use other presentation? That is what successful fishing is all about--learning all presentations so you will have the knowledge to deal with all conditions.
  8. Of couse it "folds up on top of the actually motor clamp like you see on bassboats". It is a retractable bow mount motor. The 54# thrust motor will be somewhat better than the 46# thrust model. There is no such thing as too much trolling motor power.
  9. Actually DI shows fish better than SI, you just have to be above them.It wil actually show the shape of the fish. This is a school of bass feeding on a school of baitfish near some brush: All imaging technology takes movement to produce the images. The imaging pulses are thin front to back and wide to the sides. They have to SCAN as the screen scrolls somewhat like a CAT scan at hospitals. The coverage of a DI pulse with a DI unit is about like the 83 kHz frequency for 2D sonar as far as width. That means the amount of bottom covered depends on the depth. ANY LCR sonar technology records the same, when you fully see a subject displayed, you have passed it. All LCR sonar technologies record a single screen pixel row at a time and every row of pixels across the screen from that one is HISTORY. If a subject is not constantly being recorded on the first row of pixels, it is not within the sonar pulse. Sonar units are not video monitors with video cameras. Humminbird Side Imaging shows to the left and right of the transducer as far as the SI range setting is set to--up to 360' on each side. In shallow water you can see what is away from under the boat as long as the transducer is not buried in the lake bottom. This screen shot is where I was following a creek channel (on the right) and staying away from it so I wouldn't scare any fish that may be relating to it. Note the water depth and the SI range setting (top right and left)
  10. Don't forget colored fish markers and a note pad to keep up with which fish is the lightest. Saves culling time.
  11. This is a bridge support done with a 597ci HD DI unit
  12. Down Imaging is better than no Imaging. Side Imaging is a lot better. This is a tree in 2D, DI, and SI.
  13. Multiple is correct. and are not rumors. I'm not aware of the "taken out of" part though. CPR (Catch, Photograph, Release)
  14. BTW, nice fish.
  15. One thing about superlines is the smallest diameter ones have low SHOCK strength. If you think that is BS, throw an A-rig on less than 50# superline and get a backlash.
  16. Typically duing this period, those lakes are not open for fishing during weekdays. Call the Fredericksburg Parks and rec. to find out before you go.
  17. Yes, good find.
  18. Thanks for the explaination. IF you would have included in your post why you were in possession of both fish you caught, I would not have commented at all. I am very familiar with Lake Fork and its slot limit. What you represented in you picture and your post warrants a spanking.
  19. SOooo, you kept an illegal fish while you fished for another one so you can take a picture of both? No praises from here for that.
  20. The use of the GPS function should determine where you want that.
  21. Both Motts and Hunting Run rent boats/motors and have bank fishing. Ni Res is also a public lake near Fredericksburg-it shares permits with Hunting Run. I fish Hunting Run a lot, but haven't been there this year yet. Been too busy chasing BIG ones at other waters farther South.
  22. When I use a fluorocarbon leader with any of the 12 + rigs I use for wacky rigging, I use the Uni-Uni Knot. I have baitcasting, spinning, and spincasting gear rigged for wacky rigging. Every one has superline but I don't use a superline with a mono equivelent diameter of less that 6#. The smaller stuff has very little shock strength.
  23. HD in that unit model number just means the high screen pixel density--the images will look sharper. The gray scale is the same as a lower resolution display.
  24. Color is somewhat easier to see in bright sunlight and with different colors representing different echo strengths, some find that easier.to interpret. It's all about being familiar with what the unit is showing. I use gray scale for Imaging sometimes, since for me it shows some details better. You really can't get the full operational effect of either indoors.
