  1. Sonar units in any technology are not video cameras and monitors. They only transmit a sonar pulse and record the return echoes one row of screen pixels at a time. What you see recorded is history. The farther away from the edge of the display a subject is displayed, the older that history is. You have to determine how far you have moved from when a return was first recorded. If a certain object is not continually being recorded on the very first row of screen pixels, it is not within the coverage of the sonar pulse. When sitting still the unit records what is within the sonar pulses just like is does when you are moving. The bottom is still there and any thing between the bottom and surface will be recorded too as a continuous line as long as it stays within the sonar pulse coverage and does not move.
  2. Your DSI unit should show you the individual stems of vegetation. I do not have my computer with me with examples, but will send you some when I get home in a few days.
  3. I use Side Imaging a lot more at the bow than I do at the console. Shallow or deep, you can see what is away from under the boat. How shallow???-- as long as the transducer is not buried in the bottom.
  4. TFO Mag H rod rated for up to 6 oz. 7' 11"
  5. Another example of the Sonar Charts program. This is what Navionics had for this location before Sonar Charts This is the result of my recordings uploaded to the Sonar Charts program: Not only did they add the HD contours, they re-did the lake outline since some of my recordings where shown on land with their outline. They added the docks too.
  6. School of 3#-7# bass. Hooked 13 of them and landed 11 of them before they quit hitting anything I tried. You can fool some of the bass some of the time, but not all the bass all of the time.
  7. The picture I posted is the Web App on the Navionics web site. That much detail was not on the Navionics server yet when I updated my card last week. Yes, I use the Humminbird1198 units with the Navionics Hotmaps Platinum East card. The only adjustment you have is the transducer depth when uploading recordings. You can fudge that number to allow for water depth changes. For the best accuracy, do your recordings at normal water levels or record the same area at several water levels to get a somewhat average established. I gave done 4 different lakes so far, but the most dramatic is the one I posted about where there was nothing previous.
  8. Your unit is not linkable with another unit for GPS data sharing, but that data can be copied and loaded to the other unit via SD card quite easily.
  9. I have used the Sonar Charts to start a HD map of a Virginia lake that has no paper maps or digital map with even an outline of it. I alm still adding data to it to increase the accuracy. When I first uploaded some recordings from there, Navionics created the zero line for the outline and then applied the recordings to create the depth contours.
  10. Lightest is 14# fluorocarbon for suspending jerkbaits Heaviest is 80# superline for umbrella rigs and frogs Most have 50# superline that is 10# mono equivelent diameter.
  11. Most bent axle problems occur at the spindle, typically hitting curbs or pot holes. The right side is the most likely for that to happen. You would have to straighten the spindle to fix it or replace that side or the whole axle assembly. http://www.easternmarine.com/Trailer-Axle-Spindles/
  12. It's possible. Take the cap off and tighten the axle nut to remove the play, then see what it feels/sounds like.
  13. If the fish are not on the bottom and are relating to baitfish schools, IMHO a Carolina would be ineffective. You would need to be fishing at the level the preditors are. Add a Super Fuke (weighted hook and unweighted hook) and a umbrella rig to the list of possible presentations.
  14. Yes, BUT------- IF you look at the specs, it is GPS capable IF you purchase and connect a GPS antenna. It will be a simple track plotter. It cannot be a Chart plotter.
  15. All you have to do is check the specs on the Lowrance web site.
  16. It is an excellent unit for the price. I know several that have them in the full version with GPS/ mapping.
  17. The mfg of house brand batteries compete for the business. The Kirkland can be made by a different company each year, just like Everstarts (Walmart) are--whichever company offers the most cost effective product for the retailer gets the deal.
  18. The LSS-2 transducer is quite large and that may limit where. I will send you a PM with a source for installations for a lot of boat brands.
  19. In that case, Walmart and Sam's Club is a good source for deep cycle batteries. Exide and Johnson Controls makes their house brand. Walmart is everywhere.
  20. What battery brands does Costco carry or what is their house brand?
  21. I have several Daiwa Goldcast models for inexperienced anglers that may fish with me. One pro bass angler won a Bassmaster tournament using them. Woo Daves Do a web search for "Woo Daves spincasting"
  22. As for a motor, get the most powerful one you can afford. You can't have too much. The Endura would be more durable since it has a composite shaft. The battery type needed is a Deep Cycle typically at least group 27. A 24 may be OK if the pond is small and you don't fish very long. The size numbers refer to the physical size and amp capacity. Small number=small battery-less usage Adding to the overall cost is a battery charger. Fully recharge the battery after each use.
  23. Yes, several times. I used a small single hook weedguard frog I think was made by Berkley--about 30 years ago. Bull frogs are cannibles and eat their own.
