  1. Thanks for the advice. And yeah the park is a really cool place. Tons of water to fish if you don't mind walking lol. I e found that the further I get off the beaten path the better the fishing gets. Guessing bc not many people want to walk almost a mile lugging fishing tackle and rods. I always have my machete with me in case I see a promising spot with brush or weeds along the shoreline
  2. Yeah. I mean... they spawn all over bc the water is shallow and full of grass beds, but all the best spawning areas have a hard bottom
  3. I'm only wondering in case we get another front like the one that came through last week. Went from 60s and 70s to high 20s and low 30s lol I'm only wondering in case we get another front like the one that came through last week. Went from 60s and 70s to high 20s and low 30s lol
  4. Looking for a little help on my home water. I fish New Orleans City Park, which has a pond and lagoon with 11 miles of shoreline. Stained water with about 1-2ft of visibility and tons of vegetation. I've been having trouble putting a pattern together lately since temps here in southeast Louisiana are finally becoming "winterish". After talking to some buddies with the Wildlife and Fisheries and a lot of research, I've learned the average depth in the park is 2.5ft, with the deepest spot being just under 7ft. With water that shallow, what should I be keying on when fishing those cold post-frontal days?
  5. Rattle traps are my go-to bait pretty much year round. Followed by a jig or T-rig on the edges of the grass
  6. Any of you guys have any experience fishing coontail? Just wondering if there's any techniques I haven't tried that I need to bust out
  7. That's what I was thinking too, but a few pics of milfoil I saw had me thinking it might be milfoil
  8. So as my bass fishing fever grows a little more each day, I decided to do some research on my local pond/lagoon system I fish in NOLA City Park. The water here is full of vegetation, so I figured knowing exactly what was there, and more specifically what was in different areas would be a plus. I've identified 7 different types of vegetation, but I'm not sure about this last one. I'd appreciate any input.
  9. I'm hoping to start fishing some different areas and hopefully begin a little tournament fishing. Looking for a bass club accepting new non-boater members in or around the New Orleans area. Willing to take a ride bc I'm sure there aren't any clubs in the city. Please help me out
  10. I've been doing very well lately at my local pond on lipless cranks, specifically the 1/4oz Strike King RES. Bought a pack of Rage Tail Swimmers from the tackle shop a week or so ago to try to change it up because the fish are seeing tons of crankbait right now. I have it rigged on a 3/16oz belly weighted swimbait twist lock hook. Also have some in 1/4oz to try. Just wondering how you guys like to set these up and what techniques are best to try. I'm throwing both the swimbait and the RES on a 7' M-F with a 6.3:1 Tatula spooled up with 30# Power Pro right now.
  11. I have been using a MH-F spinning rod for reaction baits and that is where I feel most comfortable. I was looking at the Daiwa Tatula XT shallow crank and jerkbait rod. 7' MH-M
  12. I've looked at both of those. Never dealt with big supply shop but a buddy of mine has and he said everything went pretty smoothly. I'll have to check into if they charge for shipping. You have any experience with the Tatula CT reels. I have a Tatula 100 6.3:1 right now. Got it on huge discount about 5 months ago bc it was last years model and I'm very happy with it. Just wish I had gotten the 7.3:1 or 8.1:1 but for $75 I couldn't pass it up
  13. Let me start this off by letting everyone know that I fish from the bank 90% of the time so I like to pack light for fishing trips. I also just started using baitcasting gear recently so I'm building my arsenal up. Anyways, I'm picking out a new rod and reel for myself for Christmas from my wife and I need some advice. I'm looking for a rod that will be good for reaction baits. I'd say 50% of my reaction bait fishing is lipless cranks, 25% squarebills, 20% spinnerbaits, and 5% chatterbait. What power and action would you guys recommend to cover all of these bases?
  14. Yeah when I first saw it I was excited, but I went to select it and the 7'3" MH isn't an option. Boooooo. How do you feel about that rod as a jig/frog rod? Most of the time I'm throwing either 1/4 or 3/8oz jigs.... might throw a 1/2oz every now and then, and I only throw a frog on occasion (I'd like to change that lol) simply bc where I fish has lots of trees and casting from the bank isn't always easy. I'm flipping or pitching 90% of the time bc an overhand cast is out of the question
  15. When you go to choose an option the only option to choose is 7' medium fast.
  16. @new2BC4bass sadly I just went to check online and Walmart doesn't have that price on that particular model
  17. I saw that. Gonna get a deal on the reels and the rods.
  18. So my wife gave me the go ahead to order some new gear as my Christmas present, and I'm hoping someone who has some experience using the Daiwa Tatula XT rods can help me out with a little bit more in depth info about the specs of the rod. I'm looking at the 7'3" medium-heavy power fast action. I'll be using it for jigs, C-rigs, T-rigs, and because I bank fish and don't carry a lot of rigs with me, it will be my frogging rod as well. I was hoping someone could help me out with where the MH sits on the power scale. I've used MH rods that were much closer to M power, and MH rods that felt more like H power. Would the Tatula XT in a MH be a good fit for what I'm going to use it for? Or should I look into a H power? Any advice or opinions are greatly appreciated guys. Side note: I'll be pairing this rod with a Daiwa Tatula CT reel. For these applications, should I go with the 7.3:1 or 8.1:1 gear ratio? Thanks in advance Big Easy
  19. I was looking at the arky jigs from Siebert as I wrote this post. Think my question has been answered lol
  20. I've been having great success catching bass from the bank on jigs at a local park with a huge pond/lagoon system down here in NOLA. Bass lures can be hard to come by in southeast LA, and the jigs I've been using from Dick's just don't hold up. As I'm looking online, I see so many styles of jigs and no 2 styles from different manufacturers are the same. So I'm trying to get some answers from you guys. The waters I fish are full of grass, and I also like to fish lay downs and any rocks I can find. What is the best all around jig style for me to use? I've been looking into arky style jigs and flipping jigs, and they're so similar yet so different I keep second guessing myself. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!!
