  1. I’ve been looking into fiberglass or composite rods and doing research on some different manufacturers. This will be my first glass/composite rod. It will be for cranking and chatterbaits/bladed jigs. Hoping it might help me with allowing the fish to get the bait better and with fighting fish. I know that many people say glass is heavier and less sensitive than graphite. The B-Hittay from the Randall Tharp Ark series is currently at the top of my list. I’ve read great reviews and it’s hard to pass up at that price. I’ve also looked into the Daiwa Tatula Elite 7’4” MH-R glass rod. Anyone have experience with either of these models? Any other suggestions worth a look? Trying to keep it under $200.
  2. No I didn’t pull the trigger. Really wish I would have. I actually had a little mishap a few days after I made that post. Tore my bicep putting my boat on the trailer after a local tournament my fiancé and I fished so I’ve been out of commission and kind of forgot all about taking advantage of the the TW sale ??‍♂️ Hoping someone that did take a chance on one can fill me in on how they perform.
  3. The boat I recently purchased came with a Minn Kota Riptide Powerdrive. Not 100% sure of the year but it’s relatively new. Here’s my situation... When I’m using the remote it works as it should, but when I’m using the foot pedal the constant mode will not stay on when I have it over level 5. I’m also having trouble with the anchor mode. Anyone have any insight as to what could be causing this?
  4. Hoping someone who has used these rods before can help. Decided to buy myself a few rods from manufactures I haven’t used before and stumbled across the Gambler DCVR line on sale on TW. Looking at the 7’3” MH-Fast and the 7’3” H-Mod Fast models. TW the same ratings for these models. Wondering if anyone can give me a little more insight as far as how these rods fish and feel. Looking for a new frog rod and also a different rod to try with a bladed jig, but mostly just wanting to experiment with a couple new brands. Thanks in advance for any help! ? ??
  5. I swapped them out for some #4 Mustad EWG hooks. Don’t notice a difference in action or hook up ratio for that matter. Maybe the small sticky hooks work just fine lol
  6. They are nice super sticky hooks... they just look and feel much smaller than what I’m used to seeing.
  7. Good to know! Thanks again!!
  8. Thanks for the help. I’m going to get some #6 and #4 and try them out. I’m just worried about messing up the action with too much larger of a hook.
  9. Wondering what size hooks come on the Yo-Zuri Rattl’n Vibe lipless cranks. Just got an order of the 3/8oz 2-1/8in model as well as some of the mini version. This is the first time I’ve seen one in person and the hooks seem really small. I use SK Red Eye Shad in the 1/4oz size often and I put #4 EWG short shanks on them. I also like using the #4 VMC bladed hybrid hooks on the back. Anyone have any experience trying out different sizes on these Yo-Zuri baits?
  10. Any particular reason for the paddle tail on the Thunder Cricket? I have yet to try a Thunder Cricket, but I’ve had a few buddies tell me they fish very similarly to the ones I use from a local company down here in South Louisiana.
  11. ^^ This is a great point that I feel often gets overlooked. I honestly don’t own very many rods under 7’ in length. It’s just a preference. I’m quite accurate with a 7’ rod and I’m still able to get the casting distance that I want from it. I will go up to a 7’3” or 7’6” for some applications, but most of my rods are 7’. However, I do have two spinning rods and one casting rod that are shorter. I use these rods mostly when fishing in close quarters or when I’m trying to get up under overhanging trees, but I also use them for ned rigs and when I throw a weightless Senko. The shorter rods helps to make me fish a little slower because if I lift or drag the bait or move the rod to impart action, it will move the lure less than a longer rod would.
  12. I was late to the game when it comes to bladed jig/chatterbait fishing, but I’ve had a lot more time for fishing this year because of COVID and social distancing and whatnot, so I’ve done what I’ve always done when I wanted to learn or get better with a specific lure... I put it in my hand and tried not to put it down. I’ve grown to really like using bladed jigs, and I normally always have one on the deck. My question arises as we get deeper into fall and then into winter (we’re still dealing with temps in the 70s most of the time in South Louisiana, but we’ve had a few cold fronts and more to come in the near future lol). My go-to trailer is a Zoom Super Fluke, but I also like paddle tails like Rage Swimmers or Keitech’s. With water temps dropping, I’m wondering what others like to use for a smaller profile trailer. Obviously I plan to try the Zoom Tiny Fluke and smaller versions of the paddle tails, but I was hoping to get some other recommendations of trailers to try out. So what do you guys think??
  13. Yeah I definitely don’t deal with the cold too much down here. I usually pull the choke, spin it over until it tries to run, push the choke back in and she cranks right up. This motor had the top end fully rebuilt and a new lower unit in January, so it’s almost like new. Little bit on the loud side, but it runs perfectly and I get pretty good speed out of an 18ft aluminum boat. I’ve always had Mercury motors until this one and I gotta say that Mercury’s actually seem to run and start better in colder weather lol. Best decision I’ve ever made. It doesn’t get hot or cold, which is nice in the summer if I want to go without shoes on the boat lol. Biggest thing is the comfort though. It’s got a great cushy feeling. Perfect for me because I can’t stand fishing sitting down or leaning on a deck seat. I fished a narrow little bayou last weekend and stood on the deck running the trolling motor for pretty much 10 hours straight. Takes a ton of stress off your back and legs.
  14. I’m not even worried about the units sharing waypoints or sonar. I’m just wondering if they will work using the same transducer. No not a touch screen
  15. I believe mine is an older unit.
  16. Just bought this 99 G3 Pro 185 and had it custom painted in camo. Also pulled out carpet and had camo hydro turf installed.
  17. The boat I recently purchased came with a Garmin EchoMap 73cv. I want to install a small unit at the bow. Will the Striker series be compatible with my current transducer or would I need another EchoMap model?
  18. Let me go through my pics and resize them. It won’t let me upload my pics bc it says the file is too big. These are the best pics of it I have on my phone. I’ll have to take some more pics next time I take it out. Top end of the motor was just rebuilt by a certified Yamaha mechanic and the lower unit was replaced a year ago. It’s loud but it runs great and I get pretty good speed out if it. I want to experiment with props. Thinking about putting a jack plate on as well.
  19. I just purchased a 99 G3 Pro 185. I had it painted with a custom camo scheme, and I had the carpet removed and camo hydro turf installed. A buddy of mine had an extra windshield that is an American flag pattern and it goes great with the boat. The seats are my next project, and I’m thinking about having some custom seats made in an American flag pattern to match the windshield. I’m located in New Orleans so if anyone knows someone near me that would be a plus, but that’s not necessarily a deal breaker. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!
  20. Been having issues with the cheap stock hooks on my RES’s straightening out, especially after I’ve caught a few fish. Pretty sure the 1/2oz comes with size 4 hooks, and I’ve read that KVD will go up to a 2 when he swaps them out. I usually throw the 1/4oz model. Not sure if they’re size 4 or 6. What size would you guys recommend on 1/4oz RES’s? I was planning on using the Mustad KVD triple grips, but if anyone has any other suggestions I’m open to trying a few brands out. Thanks in advance for any help!
  21. I was looking at this rod as well. I’m usually pond fishing and throwing a frog in duckweed, but sometimes I fish scattered hyacinth. I’d love something that would be good for both. When I’m fishing the duckweed, I feel like I could get away with a slightly lighter power road, but I’d like a little heavier for the hyacinth... just to be able to rip through the pads if necessary.
  22. Thanks for all the input guys. Still trying to make a decision. Hoping I can find a few of the rods y’all have recommended in store so I can put them in my hand.
  23. I always felt like I could’ve have gotten away with something a little lighter than the Fate I was using. Would the 734C fit the bill? Might even consider both the 734 and 735. That way I’d be able to cover heavier cover as well as a little more open water situations.
  24. I broke my frog rod a few days ago when I put the dreaded high stick maneuver on a 5 pound largemouth while bank fishing. I’ve been scouring the Internet for a replacement, but I’m having trouble deciding. I was using a 13 Fishing Fate Black (the lime green). 7’4” Heavy/Fast. Would like to maybe go a couple inches shorter, but definitely don’t want anything over 7’4”. Price range is around $150 but might possibly consider spending a little more bc I throw frogs a lot. My top choice right now is the Dobyns FR735C or the 734C. Haven’t used a Dobyns before, but I’ve heard nothing but good things.
