  1. I throw topwater treble hook baits on the Yo-Zuri Hybrid and it works great. The only P-Line co-polymer I’ve used is the Floroclear, and the Hybrid outperforms Floroclear hands down. I feel like Hybrid has slightly less stretch than standard mono, but it still floats well.
  2. I’m gonna go with the 735 and see how I like it. I know there’s a big difference in sensitivity, but if it handles anything like my FR735 it’ll be excellent. I used the Fury to flip a T-rig on the outside edges of grass mats with 1/2-3/4oz tungsten and it performed great. Might need two DC735’s lol. One for the docks with FC and one for the grass edges with braid. I have a Boom Boom DC766FLIP and it’s a lotttt more sensitive than my Fury's.
  3. I’ve been having success flipping docks and lighter cover lay downs with a 1/2oz Missile Baits Ike’s Mini Flip Jig and some I tied myself on 7/16oz BOSS Finesse Flip jig heads with chunk trailers. Does the 744 have enough power or would the 735 be a better fit??
  4. I’m throwing 1.5’s on a Powell Endurance 724CB-Glass paired with a Tatula SV103 in the 6.3:1 ratio spooled up with 12# Sunline Sniper. Perfect for 3/8oz 1.5’s but it can handle 1.0’s and other smaller, lighter cranks too.
  5. Planning on this being my heavy cover jig setup for 1/2oz and 5/8oz flipping jigs with bulkier trailers. We have a ton of grass down here in SE Louisiana so I was thinking the 5 power would be the right choice for docks with grass or brush. I have a Powell Diesel 723C that I use for 3/8oz jigs and 1/2oz compact/finesse jigs and I love it. Considering Dobyns has the 734 in the test cork lineup for $200 and I also found the Powell Max 734 on sale, picking up a 4 power and a 5 power might be an option.
  6. Exactly what I was looking at on the Dobyns website. Leaning toward the Dobyns XP bc I like the full grip. I almost exclusively use Dobyns and Powell. I give Powell the upper hand when it comes to overall weight, but the Dobyns tend to have a bit more balance. Hoping someone who has had experience with both rods can give a bit more info on how they compare before I pull the trigger. PS… I also found the Powell Max 735C on sale for $180 lol.
  7. Thoughts on the Powell Max 735C vs. the Dobyns XP735C…. Trying to decide on my next purchase and hoping to get some input on these two. Looking for a new jig dock flipping rod.
  8. Thanks for the info. I think you just convinced me to pick one up and give it a shot.
  9. I spooled up 4 reels with it about a week ago. At the price point… it’s great! Perfect for someone trying FC not wanting to spend “InvizX money”. @Glennhit the nail on the head here! BasiX definitely has more stretch than InvizX and a lot of other FC I’ve used. Good, less expensive option for someone looking for a little more stretch when throwing moving baits. He's also spot on with the softness making casting and line management easier. Again… if you’re new to FC it’s a less expensive option to try, but as with anything you get what you pay for so you’re not going to get the same performance you would from more expensive options like InvizX.
  10. How does the Chatterbound do around vegetation? I’m normally throwing Jackhammers in 3-5ft over grass so having that backbone to pop it free from the grass and get the fish out is my main concern.
  11. This was part of my thinking too. I’ve been eyeing a few Champ XP models from Dobyns and the 744 “Jig Rod Special” is on my list. The SV would probably be a better fit for that setup ??‍♂️
  12. Oh yeah. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Boomer and the AA products. I went through a bunch of brands and models trying to find the “right” bladed jig rod for me. Currently using a Powell Max 755 CB Glass and it’s kept me pretty happy so far. Recently tried the Brent Ehrler Daiwa Tatula Elite rod. Used it a few times and sold it. Didn’t like it at all. I think I’m going to order at least the Chatterbound right now lol. Any chance you know how much the Chatterbound weighs? Weight is one reason I love the Powell. That Max 755 CB Glass only weighs 3.3oz
  13. What models do you have? I have basically narrowed my arsenal down to two rod manufacturers… Dobyns and Powell. But there are a few companies I haven’t tried yet, and Alpha Angler is at the top of the list. My favorite lure and the one I have the most confidence in is a bladed jig so I’ve been eying the Chatterbound for a while. The Clutch also has my attention for flipping and pitching lighter/finesse jigs around docks.
  14. Planning to upgrade the reel on my dedicated jerkbait setup — Powell Max 695 CB that currently has a Lew’s Mark Rose Signature Series 7.5:1 I had laying around without a home. I went on a bit of a Daiwa shopping spree when I saw the sales at a recent outdoor show, so I am trying to decide between two new options for this rig. 1. Daiwa Tatula CT 8.1:1 2. Daiwa Tatula SV TW103 8.1:1 I like the lighter weight of the 103, but I like the extra 3 inches per turn I’d get from the CT… they both feel/look great on the rod. Just wondering which one you guys would choose and why ??‍♂️ Help me make my final decision lol. Thanks in advance everyone!! ??
  15. I recently purchased a handful of barely used Powell Endurance rods that I’m waiting to arrive in the mail. After talking to the guy selling the rods, he offered to throw in a Max 695CB at a great price. Didn’t necessarily want it, but I figured I couldn’t pass up the deal lol. Wondering what techniques people might be using this model for other than cranking… jerkbaits maybe? Thanks in advance for any info!
  16. I’m not sure why… but I stopped in at my local tackle shop yesterday and they had the Tatula CT’s for $100. Wound up leaving with the last 6.3 and 7.3 and two 8.1’s ??‍♂️
  17. Agreed. This will be my first experience with a Max. I don’t have a Champ 735 yet, but it’s on the list. I’ve been happy and really impressed with all my rods from Powell and Dobyns. The less expensive lines are great bang for your buck and they only get better the more you spend. Also trying out the Naked Series. I got the Max 735 and the Naked 734. Plan on using braid on the 735 for frogs. Hoping the 734 will be good for jigs/plastics around 1/2oz with 14-16#FC.
  18. Just ordered a Max 735. I’ve heard it’s a great frog rod. I have a Dobyns Fury 735 for frogs currently and I love it. It’s also great for flipping grass with 1/2-3/4oz. I almost exclusively have either Powell or Dobyns rods in my arsenal at this point. Looking forward to comparing the Max 735 to my Fury. I’ve found that the Powell rods I have are noticeably lighter than the Dobyns, but the Dobyns tend to balance better. If anyone else has used both, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this topic. I’m sure they will both get used for both techniques, but I’m predicting that I’ll use the Max more for frogging and the Fury more for that flipping lighter weight in the grass. My DC766FR handles the heavier stuff lol.
  19. Definitely couldn’t pass it up. I had a 755 glass Diesel that was great for long casts with bladed jigs around grass, but it got hung up on under a boat cleat while I was retying and broke… it subsequently wound up in the marsh grass ??‍♂️ The Endurance feels similar… maybe a little more sensitive than the Diesel.
  20. According to the specs on their website the Endurance weighs in at 3.6oz. Found a used (LIKE ALMOST BRAND NEW) Endurance 755 glass rod for $70 and it’s crazy light for glass. I happened to have picked up a few Tatula CT’s on sale a few months back so I put the 6.3:1 on it and it’s looks great!! Have a 7.3:1 and 8.1:1 that need homes. This rod and a Champion XP are in the top 2 spots.
  21. Who has experience with the Dobyns Fury 735C and the Powell Endurance 735C? I use a Fury 735 and was thinking of getting an Endurance 735 as well… just wondering how they compare.
  22. Hit a nearby pond to try my new Tatula 721MH glass rod. I’ve got it paired up with a Tatula CT 6.3:1 and 15#FC. Bought it to try as a chatterbait setup. Threw a few different models and sizes. Performed well with the 3/8oz and 1/2oz MiniMax, and felt great with a 3/8oz Jackhammer, but felt like it wasn’t quite enough with the 1/2oz Jackhammer and 1/2oz CrosseyeZ. I’d like to get another setup to throw 1/2oz and the occasional 5/8-3-4oz. Looking at the Tatula 741H glass spinnerbait/chatterbait rod and the Tatula Elite 741MH glass Brent Ehrler rod. I’ve had the Elite in my hands and it felt great, but I was hoping someone had experience with both of these rods to compare. I’ve seen some reviews that the Tat 741H was really stiff and not very sensitive, but I really like the 721MH so I wanted to get some opinions from you guys before I pulled the trigger. Thanks!!
  23. This is a very specific question, but I’m gonna take a shot in the dark here. Has anyone used both the Powell Diesel and Shimano SLX glass rods??…. More specifically the 7’5 Powell and the 7’4 SLX. I broke my 755CBG Diesel a few months back and replaced it with the SLX. I obviously can’t compare them side by side, but I feel like the Powell had less backbone and a little more tip compared to the Shimano. Just shooting for opinions wondering if anyone has used both and how they feel about them…. TIA for any input!
  24. I’ve heard a lot of the opposite and a lot of agreement from my little group of fishing buddies lol. I don’t like that slack that I get when I’m picking up a T-rig and letting it fall. A jig is all one piece, but the T-rig can have that snap when you use that technique. I get a ton of bites on the fall and I like to have as tight a line as possible without affecting the action.
  25. Just wanted to get some opinions when it comes to what rod actions everyone likes. Thinking about another couple of additions to the arsenal. I would like something for flipping docks… which I have recently started doing a lot more of since I’ve started traveling more for tournaments and I like to flip. So here’s my thoughts, and I’m wondering how y’all feel about this…. I know every manufacturer is different than the next, and even different models with the same action are different under the same manufacturer, but let’s say we’re going by the good ole pictogram that explains rod action. I personally like an “XF” when I’m throwing a jig but more of a “fast” action with a T-rig. What do y’all think? What rods do you like? Still looking at options and I wanted to hear y'all's input before I pull the trigger.
