  1. Looking at the specs I don't see any difference. For freshwater I would definitely use the MGL for its supposed advantage with lighter lures.
  2. Bought 10 lb. in Mega 8 and Fortis last year. Really liked it at first but had issues with break offs. Stuff was very thin so was likely true to test. I've been spoiled by USDM braid breaking well above stated. Fortis was discontinued. I haven't tried the newer 4 strand.
  3. Obviously these folks aren't up to speed on the differences in the two reels. They're both great but the K is definitely a leap forward.
  4. I use the 6 lb. for my light spinning. It handles great and has a break strength three times its stated.
  5. Thought Gliss was the greatest thing since sliced bread when I started using it a couple of years ago. Didn't take me long to realize how fragile it was. It would fuzz if I barely touched it with my "bass thumb". It took very few outings to start fluffing up and that hurt casting distance. Suprisingly, I had no issues with knot failure. Fishin' Fool knot which is a two eye loop uni worked fine. I'm using several other lines, 4 and 8 strand now.
  6. Caught them in a HOA lake I fish regularly.
  7. Just got in from some great action. More than a dozen on ned, Rippin' Rap, and Husky Jerk. Three were just under 3 lb. Really wasn't expecting those results today. Maybe the ground hog was wrong.
  8. Truly enjoyed the time when everything the show host touched wasn't an ad.
  9. I have a 100B with Chronarch 50 spool and handle upgrade. It casts as well as anything I own. Sits just a tad high on the rod. This and the JDM Scorpion 1000 were Shimano's compact models before the E platform. Chronarch 50 MG, Scorp. 1000 MG, and 100D series were also based on this B platform.
  10. It's definitely fun to look back but I'll take my Stradic CI4+ over my Mitchell 300 any day. The point will get argued but today's stuff is head and shoulders better even if it's not as durable.
  11. Would prefer something in barbeque sauce or sweet potato fry. Watermelon works OK, though.
  12. Here in central IN we're looking at a warmup with a lot of rain over the next week. Murky water and warm inflow seem like a good combo for one or the other of these baits. Never thought of spinnerbaits as more of a clean water app. Appreciate your experiences.
  13. Give me some situations.
  14. I frequently see reference made that the two are interchangeable. Curious to see some input on this.
  15. Very true, but my biggest last year came on a dink that was pinned to my lipless. Now that's luck.
  16. Call them tomorrow (877-577-0600). They're PST so call later. Just order the handle shank not the whole assembly. It's BNT 5090. Found it on my Aldebaran schem. Same as CU71.
  17. I was really anticipating Cabela's opening a couple of summers ago. Since then I've gotten pretty nonplussed about the place. I know it's a scaled down version but to me it's no better than GM was. I actually kind of miss them. The new Gander Outdoors web site doesn't have me holding my breath about their store opening. What we need in Indy (at least from a fisherman's perspective) is something like good old Galyan's. I really miss them.
  18. Is that a white cat or a channel. I've got a friend near the space center who has two lakes loaded with white cats. Reminds me of our bullheads up here, only gray.
  19. Noticed that this was your first post and just wanted to welcome you. You'll find that these forums are full of ordinary down to earth people who's skill set ranges from beginner to professional. I found your viewpoint on economical reels refreshing.
  20. I just started using the Berkley heads in late fall. Great hooks, perfect hook to head size ratio for MWF technique. Jury still out on the keeper. Some elaztech baits held OK. Soft used ones wanted to walk off of it. I liked the wire keeper on the Shrooms but the hooks were very brittle.
  21. I don't use leaders often but when I do I use an Alberto knot. What I like about it is that the tag ends face rearward so it's quieter when you cast. Uni to Uni is easier for me to tie but I primarily use it for tying new line to my backing.
  22. One thing to consider also is that other factors affect retrieve rate. How large a spool is, as @reason mentioned and how full it is play into the equation.
  23. I really feel this is the sweet spot for most apps.
  24. Caught three 14 inchers after work yesterday. The pond I was fishing was half covered with skim ice when I started at 2:00. It was gone an hour later. Hope this colder weather is interspersed with some warm days so the ice can't get established like it did earlier. ( Sorry ice fishing guys).
