  1. Welcome. We joke about new guys digging up old threads but it shows you're doing a lot of research. There's stuff buried in here that I never see. Might be a nugget that I missed. Thanks.
  2. One of the HOA lakes I fish is a "wildlife preservation area" pond. It's basically a marsh with max depth maybe 5-6'. I've caught a lot of decent (2-3lb.) during warmer months using slop tactics. Tried it a couple of weeks ago with ned rig since there's enough open water to do so. Still had to use heavier spinning than I really like to because of big chara mats around the edges. Don't know what the water temp was but suffice to say it was cold. Was able to pull several in a short time. Yours should bite too. Good luck.
  3. Misspelling led you down the wrong path. They're Nemire. Easy to google.
  4. I'm probably an 8 with spinning and quite honestly a 6 with bc. My right shoulder requires that I use an underhand/roll type cast. works great with spinning but accuracy suffers with bc (for me anyhow).
  5. We've been in the same scenario as the guys west of me. It was single digits Tues. and Wed. morning. Smaller ponds skimmed over. Yesterday and today got to the low/mid 40's and I've caught a bunch of fish. Went at it slow with ned rig and the fish are a little sluggish but it's still fishin'.
  6. Would like to welcome you to the forums first. What jumped out at me in your post was when you mentioned that you were "armed to the teeth". I believe that's your problem. Too much too soon. Without getting bogged down in technical things go back to basics like when you were 10 (except with lures instead of live worms.) You'll get plenty of suggestions as this thread progresses. Get on just one or two basic techniques and think like you did years ago. There's lots of good info here. Best of luck.
  7. I paint in people's homes with HOA lakes nearby. Have caught my share of bass when running to get a sandwich.
  8. Nine above this morning, same tomorrow. NWS says 50 by Mon. Hopefully the ned and I will be performing again soon.
  9. That will doubtless be a high demand week wherever you go. Lots of possibilities south of the MD line, not just FL, TX, and CA. I'd be doing my homework and making calls quick.
  10. It kept the skunk off of me today.
  11. Original also makes a good chatterbait trailer. I've also done well fishing it wacky style. Doesn't cast very well weightless, though.
  12. That's what you call good karma.
  13. And to think I used to ice fish with a cheapo solid glass jig pole with a line cradle for hand wrapping.
  14. Really not trying to be silly but would like to hear more about your drag racing experience. I know southern CA was where it became popular and have to believe that you're familiar with a lot of names from the 60's.
  15. Would assume that the OP got it figured out after 8 1/2 yrs.
  16. Probably not related but I do notice that a lot of my bass get yellowish highlights as winter approaches.
  17. Thanks. Forgot that The SLX MGL was a 70 size.
  18. I bought a X2000 earlier this year on a whim. Had a real bad experience as I was shipped a returned reel and had trouble returning it. Customer service is in China and warranty claims involve an individual working out of his house in Tenn. (no kidding) I did try the reel and found it to be adequate and worth 65.00. I found it comparable to stuff I was using 10-15 years ago. For the same price or less a Daiwa Legalis or RG LT blows it out of the water.
  19. Looking that way here, too. No Indian Summer this year. I remember a cold start a few years back that led to a fairly mild Dec. Just don't want to get iced over. Back in the 70's I remember ice fishing on Thanksgiving once.
  20. I fish a lot of ponds like you described. Ned rig is very effective now and throughout the cold water period (Other times as well. Vegetation can be problematic unless you use a weedless slider type head then.)
  21. Welcome to the forums. Your weather description pretty closely matches the OP's and mine. Let us know where you are and that'll help us compare notes.
  22. Got in about an hour and a half this afternoon. Our weather seems to be transitioning quickly towards winter. I'm usually still on some power patterns about now but have to roll with the punches. Caught several on ned rig, mostly smaller but this one made it worth the effort.
