  1. I use the Norman speed clips attached to split ring on my crankbait and topwater rods, I've never had one fail. They're especially easier to use than getting a 110 through a knot loop lol. I retie them regularly, and keep an eye on the last few inches of line for nicks. One annoying thing is trying to attach to some of the lures with wider lips, I think the oval splits make it easier than attaching directly, in that case.
  2. Phil's Story - Possibly the Funniest Clean Story of the Year The pastor asked if anyone in the congregation would like to express praise for answered prayers. Suzie Smith stood and walked to the podium. She said, "I have a praise. Two months ago, my husband, Phil, had a terrible bicycle wreck and his scrotum was completely crushed. The pain was excruciating and the doctors didn't know if they could help him." You could hear a muffled gasp from the men in the congregation as they imagined the pain that poor Phil must have experienced. "Phil was unable to hold me or the children," she went on, "and every move caused him terrible pain. We prayed as the doctors performed a delicate operation, and it turned out they were able to piece together the crushed remnants of Phil's scrotum and wrap wire around it to hold it in place." Again, the men in the congregation cringed and squirmed uncomfortably as they imagined the horrible surgery performed on Phil. "Now," she announced in a quivering voice, "thank the Lord, Phil is out of the hospital and the doctors say that with time his scrotum should recover completely." All the men sighed with unified relief. The pastor rose and tentatively asked if anyone else had something to say. A man stood up and walked slowly to the podium. He said, "I'm Phil." The entire congregation held its breath. "I just want to tell my wife the word is sternum."
  3. I don't think they ever really had it on at least half of the hits, I didn't even get to set the hook on two of them before the frog was back on the surface. Short strikes I assume.
  4. thanks for the write up ghoti. I had one of these sitting in my topwater plano since BASS sent it to me last year when I signed up. Reading this caused me to finally pull it out yesterday and trim the legs back and tie it on. I tossed it at a small state run pond for a few minutes after work, had 4 or 5 strikes at it (in 20 minutes ), but no hookups... I reckon I need to bend the hooks a bit, but it is still a bit cold for froggin, maybe they're short striking for some other reason.
  5. I was using my Shimano Caenan reel yesterday, and had the thought "I really wish I had brought my black max instead"
  6. I have the 7' version of that rod. I have it set up with a Quantum "Burner" 7:1 reel and 40 lb braid for topwater and frogs. It has worked very well for that, but I don't know how it would handle the lighter weight lures. I have thrown my 130 whopper plopper with it, but never lighter than 1/2 oz lure so far. For your $10 it is a good enough rod, and when I first bought mine I used it for stripers as well. I haven't used mine in "feel" situations yet, so I really don't know how sensitive it is.
  7. I don't think I can go to Chesapeake and fish, if my aunts, uncles, or cousins heard that I was in the area and didn't catch up with any of them... well, it'd be rough. I haven't been down that way in quite a few years. (Mt. Pleasant Rd) I will talk to the guys about Suffolk though, otherwise we'll hit the little ponds at Williamsburg and maybe spring the fee of $2 for fishing at Lee Hall. Thanks for the responses guys The weather report this morning doesn't look nearly as inviting as it did the other day, so we may opt to hit the water for a few minutes, grab breakfast, and then hit Alewerks for the afternoon
  8. I had to have one more jerkbait... It's only one more. I swear. And my gf told me that it was OK ?
  9. Ray is off work today and sent me an update from the shop, of course I've been actually working at work, instead of spending the day on the interwebs... hate it when that happens. The trial batch is coming along. I'm really itching to get these out on the water for some reason, I guess because I helped make them. Maybe this summer I will try my hand at painting some crankbaits too... hmmm
  10. Pretty much! it's about 3/4" long 3/4" balsa dowel coned down. Some guys cup the "mouth" out a bit, but it's debatable whether there's an advantage to that. pick your favorite grub for a trailer and toss an' twitch. I haven't played with them enough to know how big of a trailer they'll keep on top.
  11. around here they're called that because Boone was the guy making them lol here is a finished one: simple, yet effective
  12. A group from DE is heading down to Williamsburg VA for a bowling tournament next weekend (3/10-3/12). I am not bowling this year, so myself and a couple of others are talking about fishing on Saturday instead of golfing or shopping with the wives. What spots have good bank fishing this time of year? (not planning to haul boats along) I made a note already about Waller Mill Park and Warhill Sports Complex from searches on here, as they are near our hotel. Any advice from the locals?
  13. I don't have one yet, will get back into it tonight or this weekend depending on Ray's schedule. There is a painted/glittered bug in the photo above the new ones that we took the hook out of to take measurements from. We will be adding eyes to them as well as a skirt I believe. I think the Arkie grub is what the plan is for a trailer at this point, but I am leaning toward trying a hydra on it. I will post more photos as the work goes along.
  14. We started working on these poppers over the weekend, ran about 94 of them. Ready to insert hooks, paint and get into tackle boxes They are a trial run, but things look good so far.
  15. I had managed to stay away from the monkey, but ended up running into him at Gander Mountain on Friday. Got out with only a three pack of florescent colored square bills from the clearance rack. Of course they went right onto the workbench at my gf's stepdad's shop to be repainted as sexy shad, hot mustard, and probably black back chartreuse. For $8 plus a bit of labor in the shop I'm happy (and the monkey is calm for a little while)
  16. it's 70 degrees outside right now. ow, my liver
  17. A buddy of mine just got a 2000? 18' Skeeter with a 2001 Merc 175 on it for $8500, so good boats are out there in that price range. Things get interesting right around $10,000 it seems like there were a lot in the $12,500 range. We looked for a while online, and he ended up finding this one local (a guy that he had painted some baits for). It will depend on your location, what options (length, construction, electronics, power unit) you are looking for, and how far you are willing to travel to get a boat.
  18. My current setup is "cheap": 7' MH Lightning Rod Shock 7:1 Quantum Burner 40 lb Gander Mountain brand braid (made by Sunline I believe) It works, and was probably about $105 combo spooled up when it was new
  19. We have a scheduled maintenance shutdown tomorrow and Monday, so I will definitely be wetting a line in the morning. It is supposed to be 73 here tomorrow! Perfect timing.
  20. Delaware will close certain areas during the spawning period, especially off of the Nanticoke River. They also limit Stripers to catch and release from 1April to 31May in spawning grounds.
  21. ^^ this... I fish 80% of my senkos with one o-ring. I fish with one buddy that always uses one, and another that refuses to use one. I don't see a difference either way personally, but little buddy hates the o-rings for some reason.
  22. I don't know anything about most of these guys, so I go with the purtiest boat...
  23. how does the fall rate compare to senkos? I was thinking about getting a 50ct pack when I go past bps in a couple weeks.
  24. I have found that the Yum Dingers seem to fall slower than the Senkos. Cabela's brand "go-to" (I think) had a decent fall rate, but I only tried one bag of them, since I haven't made the trek back up there since last July.
  25. It is a really cheap R2F reel (made by South Bend) that I got at Walmart last spring when my bail spring took a crap in the middle of the weekend. It was a $17 combo, I just put the rod butt in my shop for spooling reels, spooled the reel up with Sufix Elite, and have been using it since. The rod that it's on is a 7' Abu Garcia Vengeance Edit: maybe it's a 6'6"... I just use it lol
