  1. I found a pair of spider wire ones on the clearance rack at Walmart for $5. They are a crazy orange color frame, but are the blue blocker style yellow lenses that I wanted to try out for lower light situations. I tried them once so far, and other than my co-angler making fun of them being brighter than the rising sun they were pretty good. Not going to replace my Maui Jim's for most situations though.
  2. I don't know if this counts because they didn't cost me anything, but... now I'm on TW looking at trailers
  3. Sometimes trailer hooks if I am getting short strikes, but they tend to negate the weedless properties of the spinnerbait. I will put a trailer on from time to time, color depends on the local baitfish, generally matching or complimenting the skirt.
  4. I tried some when I saw it on sale (not as cheap as $3). It seemed to be a looser weave than what I was used to, but wasn't a junk line. I still have some 40lb on my jig rod, but I did end up using black sharpie on the last foot or so (not sure if it makes a difference, but I feel better about it). I had the 65lb on a frog rod for a while, but didn't like the bright florescent line laying out across the water. For $3 I'd have bought more, but it isn't a line I would pay full price for. Everyone will have different experiences with all products, and the loudest ones will almost always be the ones who have "worst ever" stories. It is easy for me to see, so for a line watching application that's a plus.
  5. We had the first of 7 buddy tournaments yesterday, only had 2 keepers. The weather late last week made it a tough bite. My partner had one pickerel all day, and I had these and one that we couldn't quite get the tail to touch the 12" mark (11 31/32). A beautiful day on the water though, once the sun came up and it wasn't 32 degrees any longer.
  6. and they are finished... here are the first two, not sure if the third one is going to be hot mustard now or not.
  7. I just did too, wow... you could spool this thing with a whopper plopper lol
  8. my gut would say for 5' definitely not over the 25, but I'm the guy who has a 1000 size lew's mr crappie on a 6' medium rod for senkos... I think for the line size you're going to be using the smaller reels would be just fine, but I have not looked at the president series. Maybe take your rod into the store with you and get a feel for how each size balances/feels to you with it, that way you don't have to get it home and find you've got too much or too little reel for your liking.
  9. VMC Finesse Rugby Jigs (2/0 ewg) work great for these too
  10. it's a dual braking system: the external (magnetic) setting I put on 6 the internal (centrifugal) I put all 4 tabs in hope that answers your questions I'm not sure exactly, I didn't ask why he wanted to look inside. Maybe @Delaware Valley Tackle could answer that question, as someone who looks at many different reel's internals daily. yes, I put the mono on, just enough to cover the knot really (and fill some of the "V" of the spool), then uni-uni the braid to it and fill the remainder. In the first pic, you can see that I stopped filling just shy of the beveled edge on the spool.
  11. I saw Glenn's post last week about the exclusive BassResource discount on the stealth, and I had a $10 card on my amazon account from Christmas, so I went ahead and ordered one ($41 out of pocket). It came in Thursday, I spooled it up Friday morning. (12lb big game backing/40lb GM braid) I read some reviews and watched a few youtube videos on it, so the first thing I did after spooling was open the side plate and set all 4 centrifugal brakes on before I even tried to do anything else with it. Initial thoughts, nice looking reel, a bit longer in the nose than ones that I'm used to palming. (I am using: black max, quantum burner, shimano caenan, and quantum accurist) I put my index finger on the reel body below the level wind on those, but down more on the rod on the stealth because of the "grille" for lack of a better descriptor. Where my thumb rests above the level wind was very smooth (almost slick) which took a bit to get used to. I now had to decide where it would fit into my assortment of fishing equipment, so while it rained on Friday, and through my fantasy baseball draft on Saturday it just rode along in the truck in the nice little velvety sack that it comes with. Sunday was a club tournament, so while we were waiting on boats to be unloaded I pulled one of my black maxes off of a M Vendetta and put the Stealth on, tying on a jointed structure jig. I was able to use it for an hour or so along a shallow shoreline, and I have to say I am impressed so far. I roll cast 90% of the time or more, and I did backlash with it one time when I accidentally skipped the jig (operator error, short stroke) but the reel performed flawlessly. Sunday night I showed it to a friend who has a tackle shop nearby (he'd not heard of them) who raised his eyebrows at the price (and weight) of it, then said "if you don't mind, pull the side plate off" and then was poking and prodding the brake systems for a couple of minutes. Finally at the end of the inspection he said "Hmm, $50? I think I'd tell my wife to buy 4 of them" Sorry to get long winded, but that's the way I am, and it's my thread . Long story longer: I'm impressed and excited to get it back out on the water to use it more, which is probably as much as any one of us should ask from a new piece of fishing equipment. Now, to find a permanent home for it in my arsenal (probably a $$$ custom rod that will completely negate the cost savings and maximize the weight reduction). That ninja monkey...
  12. My KK Stealth came in on Thursday... I noticed that there is a "V" shape to the spool. I used 12lb mono as backing and to fill some of the V, then topped mine off with 40lb braid. ^^^ this... the first thing I did was open it and set all 4 brakes on, then tested it yesterday for the first time with the mag brake on 6. I did have a slight over-run on one cast due to accidental skipping of a jig (operator error). I tend to only cast sidearm or else pitch when I'm using bait casters, so that may have worked in my favor as well. Good luck with the new reel, and keep us updated how it works out for you. There are a few guys on here waiting to hear from those of us that have taken a chance on them.
  13. if they catch fish, it's not a problem. I on the other hand, have major issue: 8 reels and 7 rods. The Kastking Stealth came in on Thursday
  14. one of my fishing buddies texted me this on Friday night before our first tournament, I think he has more problem with the bait monkey than I do... but he asked if I wanted some soft plastics, um yeah, I'll end up with some of it to deal with too.
  15. I thought that's why everyone says don't mess with Texas...
  16. it appears that way, but Cabela's still has them (in limited stock)
  17. one of the three walmarts within 20 miles of me has no fishing clearance rack (yet or already finished). Another one is 50 cents higher on everything for some reason.
  18. I have limited experience with braid, but I use the GM brand 40lb on 3/5 of my baitcasters currently. Really have been impressed with it for the cheap price (it is made by Sunline). It is a bit noisy through the guides, but I have little to compare it to. I do know that I was not impressed with the even cheaper spiderwire stealth glo-vis because of the amount of fraying I got and the softness of the braid compared to the GM. It seems to be a looser weave for lack of a better descriptor, and that makes picking backlashes more difficult.
  19. I use the original Reel Snot, love it on my baitcasters. Haven't tried the "fish attractant" Java one they are making. It is a line conditioner mainly, but may have some lubricating effects on the spool?
  20. I stopped by one near my gf's house yesterday, they had a kvd 2.5 squarebill for $3, treble hook packs for $2 (so I grabbed all 4) and other assorted goodies on clearance. The lady watched me walk around the rack for ten minutes, then when I went to pay, she said there's two more bins in the back still to be put out. After work I stopped at the Walmart nearest my house, and the same trebles were there for $2.50, so I bought another two packages and a 600 yd spool of yozuri hybrid for $5. Walmart finally came through for me.
  21. I found very little information at all. I wouldn't have fished this club, but a buddy texted me last week asking if I wanted to fish with him.
  22. I don't know how many others there are in the area, but this one is at least based closer up your way. http://doverbassclub.webs.com/ I am meeting with a member of a Misspillion? club today, but I can't find any recent info for them on the interwebs (other than a group pic from a tourney they did with dover bass last year)
  23. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Bill_Norman_Speed_Clips_10pk/descpage-NSC.html This is the other one that some of use, connected with a palomar knot as well. It does take a bit of dexterity to connect as mentioned earlier, but holds very well. I had been told somewhere that they are rated at 30lb, but I didn't see that on the TW info.
  24. I use Norman speed clips instead of snaps, it is a time saver for sure. I do leave the split ring on. I think especially with lipless baits that it frees up the action. The main issue is making sure to retie and or inspect the knot and line regularly.
