  1. it can be done without ffs. its been done for years by counting down to various depths or letting the lure pendulum through the strike zone.similar to the way you fish a light crappie jig.ffs makes you much more efficient but isnt totally neccesary.
  2. you dont here much about people fishing heavy swim jigs on deep weedlines but it works well for me.i fish a 3/4 grasss ripper through the tops of milfoil in 15 feet and cover water to locate fish in deep weeds. then i can flip heavy texas rigs in that area and usually pick up a few more.
  3. ive been fishing manns stingray grubs in smoke and avacado color for 30 years.i like a 1/8 or 3/16 mushroom head . an outcast tackle ned head with a wire weed gaurd works well. the stingray has a flat tail that doesnt have a ton of action which works really well in cold water.
  4. idk ive noticed boats staying for sale longer around here and prices coming down. not crashing but starting to come down.
  5. yeah u think theres no doubt about that none of my lakes have standing timber etc. our fish relate alot to rock piles grass beds etc. i think 60 will help me alot there. now one lake does have shad and in fall alot of the fish get nomadic and follow those shad schools. thats when ffs would really shine. luckily im not above putting the kayak in a river and fish for smallmouth or fish a shallow out of the way small place that time of year.
  6. yeah thats why i hesitate with some of that stuff. i work with that every day. i go fishin to get away from that.
  7. That is one time i definetly think forward facing will shine is in fall when fish really start to get on bait and follow it around without really relating to structure . im sure once i get the 360 down and get experience with it ill probably add live for those situations when i really have to fish opem water suspended fish.
  8. i think it depends on your use. i got a 9 because i got a good deal on a package. for me that unit will run nothing but 360. my 10 will be split between mapping and 2d.ive only had the 9 out once and probably wont again til spring but so far i think it will be fine.
  9. ive been debating this for months and finally bought a 360. for my style of fishing what i want is to be able to pull up to a waypoint, ( say a rock pile) and know exactly where it is . not guess. also my lakes are weedy , i need to see clumps that grow out a little further than the rest, rocks in the edge of the deep weed line etc. makes me more efficient hopefully.live can do the same but for me its more tricky to read and you have to keep moving the transduecer to adjust for wind drift etc. im not sure i want to take the surprise and wonder out of my fishing. i dont care if other people use it thats up to them but part of fishing to me is wondering weather there are fish there and feeling that bump.also im not sure that with my limited amount of fishing time i want to spend it chasing fish and stairing at a screen which i do alot at work. ymmv.
  10. things are wicked!
  11. im sure the ghost will be fine, but if you dont like it minn kota makes a new brushless ultrex that gets great reviews. i forget the name. another thing to consider is are their warrant and repair centers in your area. this for some reason is minn kota country. lots of sevice centers other brands not so much.
  12. mn fisher gave you some good options i can also recommend shimano expride and megabass orochi. 6foot 8 to 7 foot 2 your choice.
  13. its about moving product and being productive for your sponsors. i like jacob , all the times ive heard him on podcasts etc he seems like a decent guy. But stop crying dude, the big time pros have been saying it for years. you have to have a social media presence, you have to have a youtube presence. just doing well in tournaments doesnt cut it anymore. he said in that video he just wanted to fish. thats not how it works any more . a sponsor has to get a return on their investment. they get that return from social media, youtube, tournaments etc. ALL OF IT. seminars appearnces if thats not what you wanna do fine , but dont blame the sponsors. they are looking out for their bottom line just like you. Its up to YOU to make yourself valuable to them.
  14. lets be real here.I dislike mlf because boyd and a few of his cronies said they wanted to put bass out of buisness. i dont care that they formed their own leauge but the whole disdain for bass and wanting to put them out of buisness rubbed me the wrong way. as far as j.lee he used a legend exemption which is within the rules and he is a legend. and dont fool yourself BASS is going to benefit from having him. Boyd is a con man and promissed these anglers a bunch of things he couldnt deliver, if a competitor offered you several thousand dollars more and better benefits very few people would be loyal to their current employer. and they shouldnt be. theres no loyalty from BASS, if you dont keep your points standing up they will cut you. so why should the anglers be loyal? its just like pro sports loyalty be dammed you gotta make your money while you can. now the guys who ran their yap about burying bass.... they probably wont be back. jordan was a class act, he left for what looked like a better deal. it wasnt , now hes back. its a win for bass just like it is him and hes a hammer. scope or no scope he will do fine in the elite series.
  15. i run an ultrex . hummingbird helix 10 side and down and helix 9 for maps at the console. helix 10 360 on the bow and will probably add garmin livescope at the bow. i like the birds because im familiar with them and they network with the ultrex. i also think lakemaster has the best maps for my main lakes. im going garmin for the live because i just think they have the best live going
  16. i have a shakey head and really like it for everything except super finesse techniques. senkos yes, flukes yes, light texas rigs and shakeyheads yes, texas rigged drop shot yes. you get the idea.
  17. idk but i have 6 curado ks and havent had an issue with any of them. fish probably 4 to 6 days a month for 8 months a year.
  18. i think there are a few other lures that have come out since the study that this is also true of. but the point remains that the plastic worm in all its forms is very difficult if not imposiible for a bass to become conditioned to, i think you can includes a ned rig, senko damiki rig etc in this category. i catch more fish on plastic worms every year than any other bait and im sure its not close. the funny thing is to alot of younger guys a texas rig is an odd pattern.they are more reliant on the scope , the chatterbait etc. for me when things get tough and i need a bite im fishing some sort of texas rig and a drop shot. the rest of the rods go in the locker.
  19. crankbait if the water is the right depth. but for deeper water its hard to beat a carolina rig on a 3/4 or 1 ounce sinker.
  20. i like the pepper customs too. that bluegill one in lakes without shad it gets bites.
  21. in the susquehanna this time of year we have lots of eel grass. a buzzbait over the top can be lights out. you dont need anything fancy . a 1/4 ounce strike king buzz king works fine. black or white.
  22. ypull get longer life from the bait with the screw lock hooks.they will rig straighter. also the 4/0 owner isnt a true ewg. it has a wider gap than a round bend but not a true ewg. also the caffeine shad is heavier and sinks better than a fluke . it will get down better than a fluke in current. dont over think it. get a couple bags a pack of hooks and go catch em.
  23. you dont want the swimming version.the great thing about the caffeine shad is that little bubble tail. it wags and shimmies on the sink.
  24. there is no way i could fish our deep clear lakes and be consistently sucessful without sidescan and down imaging. dont have ffs. debating between it and 360. mostly just want to be able to make sure im hitting the sweet spot on structure every time. Right now i line up om a waypoint on my gps and cast at it. It works but id like o be more precise.
