  1. Yes very similar to Ned fishing very subtle action that does the trick in winter
  2. I second the milleniiums don't look like much but very comfortable and don't hold water
  3. Try the manns stingrays grub in smoke or avocado on an1/8 ballhead deadly
  4. well as somebody whos water is frozen now and we have snow in the forecast for 5 of the next ten days count yourself lucky not to have to worry about the cold water period. keep it in the back of your mind but don't think about it if you don't have to.like others have said cold water is relative and bass behave slightly different in each area.
  5. winter sucks.we will have ice here soon it may thaw for a little while but will re freeze again.im not good in the cold and my freezer is full so no hunting for me either. I will become a frequent visitor to the indoor gun range though just to get out of the house and not turn into a mole
  6. I don't know I live in south central pa, and I store my john outside in winter. in the summer I keep it all rigged and in the garage in the winter I just take all electronics and seats out pull the drain plug make sure it is tilted up a little and park it outside. sure it rains and snows in it bit it doesn't hurt anything. one of the things I like about owning a simple aluminum rig.
  7. like some others have said ,buy what you can afford and make it work.i love to fish ,but I refuse to spend a fortune to do it. could I afford to spend 20k or more on a boat?yes but I couldn't live with mu conscience. so I bought a used 18 foot john with decks front and back and a 25 hp motor. cost me $3500. then I decked it out like I wanted added trolling motors and depth finder as I could afford them. its not a sexy boat or fancy but it gets me on the water and its reliable. I don't have the nicest boat at the ramp but I don't care I enjoy the hell out of fishing catch my share of fish and I can sleep at ight because I have money in the bank retirement plans and very little debt.
  8. Good the bad and the ugly.in spring I'm good mid summer things get bad by September it's just plain ugly
  9. I would.try to save a few more bucks and get a jackson big rig. Set up with a motor I think you would love it. Just my opinion though.
  10. im a garmin user and am no expert but I can say you are looking at the same image on both sides of the screen and yes the clear vu does show fish. I think some of those bigger arcs could be fish but like wrb said I think a lot of it is gas/debris. with lakes turning over this time of year that would be common. unless its connected to some sort of structure I wouldn't spend much time on it.
  11. ive used them for years bowhunting in early season. great device.
  12. all just depends on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go.you can keep it simple or you can go for all the big ticket stuff. to me a big part of the fun of this is learning. I want that new high end depthfinder because I wanna know whats down there. why do the fish use this grass edge compared tow the 3000 acres of other grass edge etc , and then I wanna figure out how to catch them. other guys are happy to fish 2 acre farm ponds with the same 2 lures. sometimes they catch them sometimes they don't. if they don't then the fish " weren't biting" . nothing wrong with either approach just a matter of what you enjoy.
  13. Snell no question.faster sink rate.
  14. Can't speak for the other but I bought 1 Ltb two years ago and now own eight of them. Many times I feel my lure hit bottom on slack line with the reel disengaged. To me they are extremely sensitive.
  15. I'm with catt I fish all types of techniques but worms account for about 70%of my largemouth catches each year.I can go right behind guys fishing faster baits and catch fish on a worm of some sort. Texas rig drop shot shakey slip shot rig whatever.now river smallmouth are different but for lake largemouth I'll usually have two or three types of worms rigged on the boat at all times
  16. I have the irod that Tom mentioned. Nice rod for a good price.
  17. Oh I forgot to add,I do sometimes use an owner twist lock weighted hook1/16 oz. Also a bait like a d shad or a case plastics river minnow is heavier and will get a little deeper than a fluke in current.
  18. I fish flukes ton on the Susquehanna in summer.I like to let it drift in the current twitch it a couple times let it drift some more twitch again.many times they will pick it up off the bottom.to me the key is just to not over work it.make it look alive but then make it look weak and easy to catch.
  19. I hate bps they rarley have what I want.they want you to buy their knock off version of a lot of things.I want kietechs theywanna sell me bps brand.I want hard swimbaits they wanna sell me bps brand.it goes on and on. I wanted invizx they had three rolls but they had plenty of their line.no thanks. I usually just buy from a local tackle shop or online, don't even bother with them anymore
  20. shakey head texas rig Carolina rig lots of ways to fish it. probably one of my top 3 baits every year. oh I forgot wacky rig and weightless texas rigged in shallow grass, great in post spawn.
  21. The less weight the better.especially in weeds 1/15 or 1/20 the light weight makes it kinda sit up on the weeds rather than bury in them. When you pop it loose and let it sink /swim is a lot of times when strikes will come.
  22. 5 for largemouth 4 for smallmouth that's a general rule for me but there are exceptions
  23. not disputing anything these guys are saying but I think what you may have seen on the news lately is what is occurring at conowingo. basically that is the last dam downstream before the Susquehanna hits the Chesapeake bay. all the floating debris from several hundred miles of river has collected above it.not all that unusual for this time of year we had some water that was higher than it has been in several years. it collected all that build up and washed it down stream. the rail car was actually blown into the river off of a railroad bridge below that when we had 60 plus mph winds last week. this area is way below where you will be fishing.
  24. I fish the same reservoirs your talking about. I run with similar to what fishkamp used to run.two Minn kota 55s on the back a 50lb edge on the front. Have big fresh deep cycles for each. I assume you are on prettyboy liberty and or loch raven.the loch isn't much trouble you can get just about anywhere you want and fish all day. What you can't do is go to the back of Hampton then the back of perces etc. Pick arm of the lake fish it and work your way back. Liberty and prettyboy are a little trickier. A lot of good fishing in ON is close to the ramp. The ramp cove itself can be real good in spring. You'll just have to experiment and see how far you can go .
