  1. the problem we had that year i cant remember if it was 16 17 idk, anyway the high water lasted for months. it wasnt like a couple big rains then it subsided. it started raining in early june and rained liike crazy for 2 months or so. like 2 to 4 inches of rain 3 or 4 times a week, just crazy.
  2. i fish probably the same river. was really great up until about 5 years ago.the huge rains that summer destroyed the river. i didnt fish it again until last year. shes trying to come back. i didnt get as many big fish as i used too but i have to say i caught a ton of small fish. keep our fingers crossed if we have reasonably normal weather for the next couple of years and mankind doesnt destroy anything we could be looking at some really good fishing the next couple years.
  3. red eye shad spro aruku shad. jackall tn 70
  4. alot of my kayak fishing is on the susquehanna river . its a very large river with alot of current. the motor wont help you. you need to learn to use the current to your advantage.look for the current breaks, eddies, seams etc.if you see a boulder sticking out of the water which creates a soft spot ehind it paddle into the soft spot and gently anchor. now work the edges of where the current meets the softer water. also in the soft water behind the rock. work your way up to the rock repeating the process. thats just an example but it gets you thinking about what im talking about
  5. no mine was a stcroix avid 610 med lite.i use a st croix legend tournament 610 mlxf now and it keeps fish pinned really well but its a little stiff for casting the 1/16 ned rigs i prefer. it does the job but id like something slightly softer. im going to look at a orochi xx shakey head tomorrow and see how it feels, tey sold the only whipsnake they had.
  6. i have the 610 medium expride. great jerkbait rod. also use it for shallow cranks when im target casting.very good for lighter topwaters and even small light worms like a 1/8 trick worm. i like spinning for flukes and senkos. but if you want to texas rig them i wouldnt go lighter than the medium.
  7. thats the way i would do it but if we get ice it wont be safe to walk on. alot of years the water temp hovers right around 36 to 38
  8. how do you like the whipsnake for ned rigs.obviously you need a lighter rod for light baits but ive has some that were too light and couldnt keep fish pinned.is the tip really light? does it stiffen up pretty quick etc?
  9. winter sucks. i hate the cold more every year. and it feels really strange not planning my next trip thinking about where the fish may be located etc. im gonna hit the woods though and build some brushpiles and have them ready to put out in spring. hopefully in summer they will pay dividends.
  10. thinking about this rod (or the levante version) for ned rigs mostly maaybe some drop shot. ive heard it has a pretty soft tip. ive had rods in the past that seemed perfect for neds but the tip was too soft and i would lose alot of fish. i use a custom ned head that has a size 1 hook so slightly heavier my but still not a heavy hook. my current rod does a good job of keeping the fish pinned but id like something a little softer for casting and feel. i use 15pound braid to a 6 or 8 pound flouro leader.
  11. thats the deal with punching. you need a heavy weight to get through the mats the grass under those mats are more open that you think . bass hide in there to get out of the sun and ambush bait fish. its a reaction strike. drop it through let it go to bottom jig it up the drop back. if no bite go to the next one. you my punch for 3 hours with no bites then catch 5 in a spot the size of a trashcan lid. look for seth fieder video punching grass on you tube.
  12. i fish ned alot. always have at least one tied on. if go with the lightest rod. 10 to 15 pound braid 6 or 8 pound leader. but like others have mentioned its the head weight. 1/16 or 1/10 at the heaviest. and dont just drag it. it works very well when you swim it slowly the let it pendulum down sometimes slightly shaking the rod tip. with the light head and the bouyant elaztech you want the bait to kind of glide and hover.
  13. tell me about it? ive considered one but my avid in the same specs was too wimpy for me and ened up being a heavier crappie rod. whats your description of the victory?
  14. screw you catt. lol im coming to visit for a month
  15. yes i use mine for neds all the time. 15lb braid 6 or 8 flouro leader. 1/16 or 1/10 heads and a trd.just lean into them and reel. rarely lose fish.
  16. yeah i feel the same way. saw the leaves change did the halloween thing , saw the corn get harvested, did some bow hunting , shot 2 deer. im done.ready for spring.
  17. id go with the medium. i had a medium lite avid and i would lose alot of fish on neds.i started using a legend tournament medium light drop shot rod which is a good bit stouter for the same rating. my landing percentage went way up. so much so that i have 2 identical one rigged with a drop shot and one with a ned at all times.
  18. i like the RES but i have worn them out on the spro in spooky shad.
  19. yes and they are getting better at it. from friends of mine who have livescope and use it on ceowded lakes during big tournaments. after those fish get hammered for a few days when you hit them with that forward facing sonar beam they immediately swim off .
  20. just like any other time i see fish reacting but no committing. try to vary the retrieve, faster, slower, more pauses , more violent jerks. if that doesnt work try a smaller or larger bait. lastly change the color , go with something totally opposite. like go to a clown or something with orange or chartreuse.
  21. luckycraft , makes good baits the jacklal rerange is also a good bait. although the rerange has a more aggressive wider action that is usually more effective above 50 degrees.
  22. those 2 would be my suggestion.
  23. the action isnt as refined as the 110 but they catch fish especially when the water is 55 or so. as the water really starts to cool some of the more refined jerkbaits seem to work better for me.
  24. i think people take this to a higher degree than it needs to be. i mean it only makes sense to try to roughly match in size color and profile. But its not trout fishing bass will eat whatever looks easy to kill when its time to eat. i mean a senko doesnt really look like anything but it looks alive and easy to catch. now if you have bass busting a school of three inch shad it makes sense to try to mimic a 3 inch shad. but in general bass are opportunistic and will eat anything that looks like food.
  25. yes im with columbia craw. i need to know the season to help me decide the portion of the lame most likely to hold fish. Them im gonna study maps. if its spring im looking for shallow flats creeks etc. summer im looking for main lake structure etc. google maps to get a general idea of water color is there grass etc. when i arrive im gonna look at water temp, clarity , look at general depth that baitfish seem to be occupying. ill generally start trying to fish a moving lure in the depth i identified as having the most bait fish. move on from there.
