  1. id put an ultrex on the hobie , stay with the 180 drive . you get all the benefits one the pedal drive plus spot lock etc. if the weather gets crazy torn on the motor and get back to the bank etc. iys alot of money but compared to a fully rigged boat. pretty cheap and alot less maintenance.
  2. in my opinion he is correct. i use fluoro on my bottom type lures , jigs worms etc because i THINK it gives me better sensetivity and hook sets with less stretch. im not even sure thats true but its in my head so... for moving baits i love mono. easier to cast easier to tie knots cheaper etc.
  3. what catt said can be misleading if you dont understand it. so lets say you have a 100 yard stretch of bank evenly sloping to 25 feet. the milfoil or whatever grows to about 17 feet. where do you start? you happen to look at a map and notice one little section that runs at 12 feet for longer than the other 12 foot breakline so it forms a little underwater point. then drops off steeply to 25 feet.Thats your structure. the milfoil is the cover on that structure and much more likely to hold fish than the rest of that bank.
  4. the places i fish its almost always a grind. i mean you will have some days where they are really biting but most of the time you gotta fish HARD to have a decent day. we see alot of guys take up fishing and in four or five years theyre out. you gotta love it and commit to it to be successful.
  5. the action that im looking for is more important to me than brand. i have st.croix megabass, shimano, and dobyns right now. i like them all for their intended purpose.
  6. im fine with the guides and the blank. of course if they improve them thats fine too as long as there isnt a big price jump. i could go for the MBR actions though, id like to see something between the medium and the medium heavy they have now.
  7. im sure its gonna have that type of handle . people like it on the other rods. i hope it doesnt have that big ugly white thing above the grip like that one in the pic.
  8. i like round bend, but as you can see others like ewg. you may have to experiment and see what you like.
  9. please let me know what you think about the zodias.thanks
  10. i had a 7ft medium avid and to me i feel it would be a little heavy for what you want. it would work but its more than you need.unfortunatley the victory in the mlxf feels like a buggy whip to me.ive been tempted to order a zodias medium light but i hate to without getting my hands on it. i own 2 other zodias casting rods and i like them.they are light and sensitive for their price.
  11. ive been looking at those. i need a soft rod for trebels but i dont want something as soft as glass. i crank grass alot and i need to feel when the bait is ticking grass. i also need the backbone to rip that bait out of grass triggers strikes.which model do you have?
  12. im glad im not the only one who keeps overflow. ive been buying overstock of things i already have because im not sure im gonna be able to get it if i run out.
  13. thats kina funny because i have a 7ft medium ltb. they call it a plastics rod but it has a soft tip and good backbone. i like it for shallow cranks and lipless baits in the glass. i can feel when the grass ticks my bait and it has enough backbone to rip baits off the grass.
  14. its all good everybody looks for different things in a rod. im not concerned about guides etc. i own lavantes and orochii and like them both, although i like megabass spinning more than casting. the only rod ive broken while fishing was an orochii but that can happen. especially with higher modulas rods. the magabass casting rods feel a little tip heavy to me. like i said best to feel them all for yourself and see what suits you. i certainly wouldnt not recommend a megabass in that price point, theyre good rods and i own a couple.
  15. hmm idk .i own levante and orochii . i like both rods but idk if i would pay 50 more for each. then again i guess i could say that for my other rods too. so i guess it all evens out.
  16. i myself love the zodias. i own them and the expride and am pleased with both. fished st.croix alot but dont care for the victory line at all. i say all that to point out that everybody likes different things. these are all good suggestions but you have to check them out for yourself.id pich a 72 heavy zodias at that price point.
  17. ive made it a point over the last couple years to experiment with different things. especially when the fish arent biting my usual stuff.
  18. yes especially with lighter soft plastic baits the fish alot of times will drag that thing around way longer than you think. if you have a pond nearby even if the bass arent big just go catch some and get your mojo back. ned himself calls it a no feel technique. he says he does feel some bites but he also does alot of line watching.
  19. some will say once a year. that can get expensive. i rotate mine, half of them go one year half the other.I had the thought that i was gonna take mine apart and do them myself. i watched a youtube video and realized the reel would never work again .lol. my friend is a BMW mechanic even he wont do his own casting reels.
  20. dirty jigs, outcast stealth fieder jig, riot minima jig, siebert jigs. lots of good ones out there.
  21. ive noticed ,especially last year that if i have a tight line it doesnt take that much to drive the hookin. Im talking about jigs and worms here. several times ive not felt the the bite until my rod was in a less than ideal position for a hook set. ive found that if i keep the line tight and just pull steadily and reel the fish will get hooked.because of that ive gone to a tight line sweep and reel hook set and been pretty happy with the results.
  22. yes you need something with enough give to help not tear the treble hooks out. but you dont want something so soft that the bait doesnt respond to subtle twitches.
  23. frittside, little john md and the sixth sense crush all produce well for me and as others have said, i catch fish on them all season. i think the clear pressured waters i fish that tighter wiggle just seems more natural and gets bit.
  24. rk crawler has been really good for me. not in super cold water but once its 55 or so. phantom brown and phantom green have been outstanding.
  25. lol well i dont mean you have to do that im just saying they definetley have a drawing power for smallmouth. when they are really biting it probably doesnt matter but i think over the course of a season youll get some extra fish.
