  1. Pretty darn close to a unicorn. This guy lives his life at a deer farm in St. Ignace.
  2. Placed a few orders with Mike. Like everyone else has said great products. The Fogy is absolutely great!
  3. Yup, nothing but a click ***** looking to make money to stay relevant since his fish catching abilities can’t on the pro tour. Side note: I’ve never thrown a NED rig.
  4. 6poundbass and I with the Mackinaw bridge behind us. Driving over can be a bit intimidating IMO.
  5. Sunrise in Saint Ignace. Kind of regretting not bringing the poles, looks like a good top water morning.
  6. Here you go. Cool place to take Eric. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soo_Locks
  7. Sault Ste. Marie, Mi
  8. Got to the Soo Locks today to see this 660 footer go through. We waited forever to see a 1000 footer, gave up went shopping then ate at a restaurant next to the Soo locks and watched the 1000 footer go through. Having a good time.
  9. You did good. Giving them a handful of stuff is one thing so selling them a ton of stuff is great. 1: they got a helluva deal 2: you’re teaching them they can’t expect handouts and they probably have a sense of accomplishment because they worked hard for their money and got a ton of tackle for a rock bottom price.
  10. Thanks. We’re looking forward to it. Danielle has one pup she has to groom this morning then we’re headed north.
  11. My PB green bass came on a cold, windy, rainy mid October day. The weather was miserable but the fishing was the best I’ve experienced quality wise. The wife and I caught six or seven bass in three hours and the smallest went 2-8. My PB was 5-4 on a frog hopping it over dying pads. The bass were so aggressive, if I’d miss I could throw it back as many times as needed to catch them! Something I’ve never experienced again. My/our SMB PB came during the summer while we were bridge fishing. My son hooked it, couldn’t reel it in so he gave it to my wife. The bass was pulling so hard she got a tad excited and gave the rod to me, so I finished the job. This one came in at 3-8, not the biggest but the story and the fight it put up was pretty memorable.
  12. We’re heading to the U.P. in the morning for a little family vacation and one of our stops is going to be the SOO locks. My son has never been there and I haven’t been in probably 30 years. I did some Google searching to see if I could find some sort of schedule for when a big freighter might pass through the locks so we could time it right. My search pointed me to a site called ais.boatnernd.com which is specifically for the locks and also an app called Marine Traffic. This app is cool and for the past couple days I’ve been glued to it! It shows all the boat traffic in the world. Holy crap are there a ton of vessels on the water! You can see pictures, get size info, speed, and destination info as well. There’s a search function to look up the location of boats too including some Navy ships. Boatnerd.com gives a ton of in-depth info on the vessels that sail the Great Lakes specifically too, like there are currently 13 vessels that are 1000’ long sailing the Great Lakes. Hoping to see one of these massive boats in person. Anyways I’ve been nerding out on this app and 6poundbass got it on his phone so the apple doesn’t fall fall from the tree I guess. For you aviation folks there’s an app for that too.
  13. Come on over and grab some! If it’s tomorrow I’ll be headed north to the UP. While you’re taking my beer, let the dogs out, make sure they have fresh water, don’t give Hank any human food or it’ll upset his stomach and he’ll be blowing mud all over the house and you’ll be coming back to clean it up. ? If you’re nice you’ll have a drinking buddy.
  14. Happy birthday, every day is a gift.
  15. Now you just need add 2-3 more per technique so you have color options. That’ll shut the monkey up for a bit.
  16. Well water here too. I could try and turn this place into a lake if I wanted to and nobody could say otherwise. I do that though I’d be getting a nice Christmas card from the electric company saying thanks for all the power usage.
  17. We have utility locate requests for sprinkler systems here in Michigan until December. Obviously they don’t fire them up in December, but they’ll come back in the spring and fire them up the first time. That’s good to know it’s takes up to three years, but also a major bummer it takes three years. The bright side of things is as you’re driving down the street you see a nice green lawn! ? The other nice thing is the neighbor next door who started their lawn the same time we did, dropped $10k on a company to come in add a bunch of topsoil, put in a driveway, and hydro seed their lawn only to get a lawn that’s a tad better looking than mine. I did all the work, didn’t add topsoil, and did driveway work for under a grand so there’s that.
  18. It’s all about practice, developing the muscle memory. My golf coach in high school said, “perfect practice makes perfect”. You can practice all you want but if you keep doing it wrong you develop bad muscle memory. The other thing I realized a couple years ago is having the right rod. I used to use whatever rod and didn’t care about action or power. I started to upgrade my rods and match the proper rod to the technique and that makes a world of difference in accuracy.
  19. I recently had a company approach me about throwing my hat in the ring for a construction manager position for them. Of course I was interested until I talked with them more about the job. I was absolutely grateful to the person who highly recommended me and extremely grateful for this company approaching me about it, but at the end of the day I let them know I wasn’t interested because this position was an office position. I need to be outside going to sites, getting my hands dirty. They did let me know there’s a field engineer position on the horizon which is more up my alley.
  20. A little update. A fellow member sent me a PM talking about lawns so I figured I’d give a bit of an update. In typical 12poundbass fashion I had my hopes set a tad too high. This isn’t the greatest year to start a lawn and since we didn’t move until mid May I was off to a late start. The grass is growing but so are the weeds. The typical crabgrass is growing and two other unknown intruders. I did spray a weed killer concentrate in June sometime and that seemed to help a bit but it seems what died was quickly replaced. I’ve watered pretty heavily until about two weeks ago and I slowed down because we started getting rain. I haven’t done a fertilizer yet, so my question to you grass experts what are these two weeds I’m frequently seeing, do I fertilize, and what do you use to eradicate these weeds? I do plan to seed again in the fall. Weed 1: Weed 2:
  21. You how many times on the show Northwoods Law or Lonestar Law people getting busted because they posted their illegal activities on social media? Maybe they’ll give you a break because you were honest about it. ?
  22. Tough sell, Napa Valley and civil engineer salary don’t mix well, at least here in Michigan, you’re doing it because you love it. Definitely not for the money.
  23. I’ve pondered doing little week night derbies around here maybe a weekend deal (not ready quite yet). I know I’ll be a donator, but they’re cheap enough and close enough, so even I were to lose I’m not out much at all. The way I look at it I’d be feeding my competitive nature which seems to be coming back pretty strong with my age and my son playing football. So I feed that, fish it with my son, and have a good time then it’s money we’ll spent! The lakes are plentiful around here, they’re small so not flying down a lake for miles to the furthest spot possible just because, I have more lures than I’ll ever lose I imagine, so it would be fairly cheap. I have no interest in doing anything bigger than a tiny 20 or so boat derby.
