  1. I highly advise against a shotgun as well. The beaver is going to get wounded and that’s it which isn’t cool. Plus, beavers are mostly nocturnal. As far as dogs in traps, you typically use a body grip trap for beaver which are under water and the beaver swims through the trap which sets it off. It’s not your typical foothold trap so your unassuming critters are safe from these traps.
  2. @TnRiver46 I’m guessing you had one too many cups of coffee since you posted this at 3am? 😂
  3. This was probably 30 or so years ago and we were walleye fishing Big Bay de noc in Michigan’s UP. There were three boats in our group and we’d communicate via radio. One of the boats radioed that Herb caught a seagull! We look over to see a seagull flying around and sure enough Herb’s rod was pointed straight into the sky reeling in this seagull. We all had a good laugh at that one. Herb has since passed and it turns out his grandson who he was very close with was on my son’s baseball team this year. I was telling Herb’s son the story while we were at one of their games. He had heard the story but had forgotten it. After the game was over I had a chance to tell his grandson the story which he got a chuckle out of.
  4. I heard on the radio the cheapest tickets for Lions/Bills is $350. Holy crap!
  5. Until next Sunday.
  6. I would go to a local conservation club and see if they know anyone who traps. My good friend traps them and does pretty well. It’s amazing the amount and size of trees those guys can take down! Here are some trees they’ve taken down where my friend traps them.
  7. I’ve never acquired the taste.
  8. I’ve broken two rods one I rolled up in my boat cover as I was taking the cover off. That was a Dobyns Fury rod and that one I was sick about. The other was a Kast King rod and it broke as I set the hook. It was a fairly new rod and it was a simple hookset using a jerkbait. No clue what the heck happened there. That was during Covid and was a two piece rod. I reached out to KK asking for a replacement since it was under warranty. They said they didn’t have anymore, I said I just needed the one piece. Still no luck. I wasn’t happy about that one.
  9. @gimruis San Fran is on the struggle bus for sure and then McCaffrey goes down. The Bills on the other hand look like they’re just having a blast. GO BILLS!
  10. Dang that was a dirty hit on Trevor Lawrence! In other news….GO BILLS!
  11. @A-Jay I figured with as much as you use it you would’ve had a couple 50 gal drums on hand at all times.
  12. I sure as heck am not ice fishing! 😂
  13. Well, that sucked!
  14. I expected Michigan to have their issues today but the Suckeyes are 💩 the bed! I’m not complaining. 😂
  15. @A-Jay that is impressive! We got 2” here and just west of Grand Rapids they’re reporting 8”. Should we start a prediction on how soon the next 60* day will be? 😁
  16. I saw the same thing as @Jigfishn10, it’s the carbs that drag us down.
  17. We didn’t get out as much as we would’ve liked to (do we ever though). It wasn’t a year of big bass and only a couple worth reporting. While there weren’t any big bass to record I don’t look at the season as a failure though. I rediscovered deep diving crankbaits. I couldn’t tell you the last time I had thrown one before this year. They never really produced for me over the years and I had written them off so I had zero confidence in them but they were my top producer this year and will become a go to lure in the coming seasons. Lipless cranks, weighted t-rig creature bait, and @Siebert Outdoors Fogy remain to be top producers as well. Surprisingly, the top water bite was almost nonexistent for me which was quite the bummer because who doesn’t love some top water action? We hit a smallmouth lake twice this year and struck out. One trip I had a boneheaded moment where we started off later in the morning fishing a steep drop off only to strike out. As the frustration began to grow, I began looking around for some better water only to see a couple big smallies coming out of a shallow flat heading towards the deeper water. Must be they decided to sleep in because I thought for sure by this time they’d be out in deeper water. Lesson learned! We caught a few unintended pike along the way as well which, even though they’re slimy nasty critters, the big ones can be fun. All in all it wasn’t a bust. The big ones didn’t show up, but we fished and that’s all that matters. Any time I can get on the water with my wife or my son I’ll take it!
  18. You won’t regret it!
  19. Echomap comes with preloaded maps and quite a few of them. You can go Garmin’s site and see if your lake is one of them. From my experience most of my lakes (and they’re small lakes) were included. Striker has everything but preloaded maps. Striker has QuickDraw so you can make your own maps but, it’s time consuming.
  20. @gimruis no doubt about it. Especially since he’s been a part of our family for around seven years and knowing how he grew up. He broke his family cycle and, he’s been absolutely great to our niece.
  21. Today, my family and I had the pleasure of attending the graduation ceremony of the 147th Michigan State Police recruitment class which included our niece’s future husband. We’re pretty proud of that kid.
  22. It’s legal to hunt deer with dogs in your area? I’m not sure how effective it would be either.
