  1. With the Garmin Striker unit you get zero maps, which is part of the price difference. The Striker units have GPS but no maps. You can make waypoints so you can go back to that exact spot. The new Striker Plus units have QuickDraw which means you can create your own contour maps.
  2. The base maps on my Helix 7 SI G2N didn’t have any of my lakes on the unit. Garmin does. Garmin has QuickDraw with more memory than I’ll ever use. Take those two into consideration I’d have to cough up $80-100 for a zero lines card for Helix and $150-200 for a map card. That’s why my Helix is now in Virginia and I’m all Garmin now.
  3. Entry level I’d echo what @Further Northis saying. They are all basically the same. They are good units for the price. The higher end units are all good units and each brand has their selling point. Humminbird with MEGA imaging and MEGA 360. Garmin with UHD imaging, Panoptix, and now Livescope. Lowrance I’m not too familiar with but they have 3D imagining, and lease the Panoptix technology from Garmin.
  4. You heard correctly.
  5. How come only your fingers and toes get wrinkled in the shower? ?
  6. When I bought my boat it had no G3 badging on it, thanks to the previous owner. So I got in contact with Iguana Graphix out of Miami told him what I had, the colors I had on my boat and he made me some custom G3 decals. I couldn’t be happier! If you ever need some custom graphics done check them out.
  7. Garmin as well with QuickDraw
  8. Looks like standing water in a yard to me.
  9. No I don’t have any issues with depth on my Garmin units.
  10. A little super glue and you’ve got a solid one piece rod.
  11. Sounds like a good solution to me! Seriously though, I’m now a Garmin guy, Humminbird makes great products. I’m sure it’s something simple, and I’m sure someone will be along shortly to help you out.
  12. Excellent write up Brian! Bank fishing or out on a boat this is really helpful. Thank you.
  13. I don’t know a thing about lake management and I haven’t watched them spray the lake, but it appears that the areas undeveloped aren’t treated along with shallow areas that are too shallow for boat traffic. I’m glad I asked you about this, because you’re right there’s a ton of fear mongering going on, it’s sometimes hard to sift through all the BS. Thanks again Brian!
  14. What’s your take on spraying lakes? This past winter we moved to a very shallow private lake. The weeds get sprayed 5-6 times a year. I briefly live on this lake 10 years ago and the weeds almost choked off the whole lake. Now it’s more open, there’s still weeds but they don’t make it so you need an air boat to get around. The bass and pike population seem pretty good with plenty of monsters in here. Pan fish I don’t know as I don’t fish them. There’s a number of panfish anglers out here. Spraying lakes came up on another forum and the consensus was it’s horrible and will do nothing but destroy the lake. The 10 years I’ve known this lake the fishing has remained the same and the weeds are still present but not over taking the whole lake. What’s your experience with lakes being sprayed? I’m not trying to hijack your thread, I can start a new one if you’d like.
  15. I take all dock talk with a grain of salt. Like in your situation it can be very helpful. I had been scoping out a couple lake 20 minutes away from me that had smallmouth in them. These were the closest lakes that had smallmouth I could find after doing some research. One night on our lake we live on I run in to this 17 year old kid who fishes tournaments all around here. He beached his boat at our house and we talked and talked for hours. Come to find out there’s a lake not 5 minutes from my house that has smallmouth in it and according to him decent sized ones. I’ve know this area my whole life, I’ve looked over surveys of this lake by the DNR and there’s nothing about smallmouth. I’ve heard from a couple other guys who fish the weeknight league and they’ve confirmed they’re in there! Had it not been for that one conversation I might not had ever known.
  16. Yup, pad crasher. I’ve had the same one for about 5 years. Shorten the tails a bit and make one a little shorter than the other. Enjoy!
  17. 10-4 I’ll scrub in! ?
  18. I concur doctor.
  19. Never thought about that. This could very well be the case. Either way you did a good deed and I’m sure that smallmouth appreciate it and now has a full belly of actual food.
  20. Wow unbelievable! It goes to show you how crazy aggressive smallmouth are!
  21. Why does jello have a smell when you add the powder to the water, but not after it gels? ?
  22. My wife loves to go fishing as well. Even if we don’t take the boat out she like to stop by the local river and see if we can get a smallmouth or two.
  23. Why is toilet bowl cleaning liquid always blue? ?
  24. Looks like Nolan and Casey are sitting in 29th just over 10 lbs out of first. Watch these guys slam them tomorrow.
  25. I saw an add on Bassmaster (I believe) that said the Ghost trolling motor is the quietest trolling motor on the market! Maybe when they’re not running? ?
