The worst I can remember here in my life is 20 inches. The ice is the worst, it’ll shut things down for days! We had an ice event about 7 years ago and the area I covered for work (utility locator) looked like a bomb went off! Trees and utility poles were down everywhere! It was absolutely unbelievable. For whatever reason ice and wind go hand in hand. The worst I’ve heard of was the blizzard of 78 or 79 (a few years before the world was blessed with me ?) Michigan got dumped on and the wind was nasty. My dad has a picture of snow drifts up to the roof of my childhood home! Our area was shut down for a week! He had to walk 2.5 miles to his work to get a tractor from his work to dig out our house. I’ve seen some 4-5 foot drifts but nothing close to 8-9 foot. I’m good with that.
31 and raining, Ugggg this isn’t going to be good! Thankfully for us the ground isn’t frozen yet or we’d be in trouble, wait I think we still are! Pretty sure the trees will glisten in the morning.
Yep, not looking good for us. Up to .3 inches of ice and 1-3 inches of snow over night. Hopefully the wind dies down before the freezing rain starts or there could be significant power outages.
I just got back in to turkey hunting a few years back. I always used a slate and a box call. Since getting back into it I’ve started using a diaphragm call as well. It takes a lot of time to get down pat. Our season starts in April so I’ll start practicing in early March. I do a lot of driving for work so I’ll practice in my work truck going from job to job. No matter how hard I try I for the life of me can’t get a good purr down, that’s where the slate call come in handy. For slate calls I have a glass and a stone slate call. Hope this helps.
What kind of turkey you guys have down there? Osceola?
Just trim up and you’ll be fine.
It’s pretty pathetic that I’m 45 minutes to an hour away from Lake Michigan and I’ve never gone there during a big storm or wind event like yesterday to witness the huge waves in action.
50 mph winds gust here. 15-20 foot waves on the big lake. Trim up and you’ll be ok said no one. Theses are @A-Jay waves, I image nothing to joke about! 25’ waves on Lake Superior.
Upper 40’s the past few days here, and today is sunny! We have some nasty winds coming tomorrow though, and rain. The lake is open again, I should be fishing!
Finally some average temperatures here. The lake has been froze over for a couple weeks now but that’s not going to last long, because (this ones for you @A-Jay) it’s raining like nobody’s business!
Yep my lake has been completely froze over for almost two weeks now. The ice earlier this week before this warm up was around 3 inches thick, not quite safe enough for me.
Two weeks ago my wife wanted to put the Christmas tree up, she said she was excited for our first Christmas in the new house. I put my foot down and said no way not until after Thanksgiving.
It’s been up 14 days now. ?
Are you going to bring a pole and some lures so you can troll off the back of the boat?
