  1. Here in Missouri the key to finding the most and better fish right now is finding the shad. That's pretty much the Fall and Winter deal any where I've been that shad is the main food source. I would think your fish should be near the schools of shad too. I would start out idling around looking for shad on the depth finder. If the fish are not schooling on the shad I would seek out structure and docks near them and start there. Good luck.
  2. Can you epoxy it in the bilge and shoot through? Or get one you can?
  3. He's just confused and that's fine. Next spring you can just grin and have your pick of the undisturbed bedding fish. He will eventually walk over to you and ask you how your catching so many fish. That's when you can school him.
  4. If the pond is 15+ and you have anything but 15 year old bass in it then someone is stocking it or they are spawning. I believe the guy was probably thinking of catfish. From what I understand non scaled fish, like catfish, don't fan their beds so they need current to keep silt and muck from covering their beds. They will still spawn in still waters but from what I was told the survival rate of their eggs is very low. This is what my Grandpa taught me way back in the day. If it's true or not I don't know but It made sense to me and is what I grew up believing. Some one much smarter than me may be along soon to give us the real deal on the subject. Bottom line though. Your bass are successfully spawning.
  5. Cabelas has some decent entry level spinning and casting combos in your price range. They may have something you like. As Fishnkamp said, if this is going to be your only set up you will probably be more versatile by starting with a spinning outfit.
  6. Are looking for a bait casting or spinning combo?

    Rumors

I hear some Glenn guy is looking for a trout fishing partner since there ain't no bass where he lives. Word is he has some cool electronic equipment he got from a former member and he doesn't even have to leave the driveway to catch fish. If the fly fishing for sturgeon thing doesn't work out and maybe he will let you in on some of that driveway trout action. I mean since you'll already have the fly rod and all.
  8. Delete the whole thread and tell him he must be getting old or something and only imagined he started it.
  9. NICE!!!! The break in procedure will be in the manual. Congrats on the new boat.
  10. Not that there's anything wrong with that, right? Except for the trout part. That just ain't right.
  11. OOOOHHHH!!!!! Never mind then.
  12. Dang Dwight! Both are GREAT fish but that "Smallie" is a FREAKIN' SLOB!!! We don't grow 'em like that around here. Well? No pics from you?
  13. Pics of PB's for a lot of the older guys, like myself, may not be possible. I would say my top 10 or so PB's were caught back in the day when we didn't have cameras on our phones. I did get pics of my best fish from the last couple years though. Both were caught at LOZ from the same creek 1 year apart. Both of them were taken sight fishing while on beds so I got a quick pic and released both without weighing. Last years (top) took about half an hour to catch. This years (bottom) only took about 5 or 6 pitches before she'd seen enough.
  14. Thank You to all who have served so that we may enjoy the freedom we have today. We owe it ALL to you.
  15. Nice fish
  16. Maybe try reeling down and waiting for the rod to load before setting the hook. At least then you get a shot at a follow up bite if the fish hasn't fully commited. My experience though is that good fish rarely miss something they intend to eat.
  17. I have a bunch of the CBR's. The way they load and release when casting and the action when retrieving and fighting fish is exactly how it should be in my opinion. I just can't believe a crankbait rod could get much better, at any price.
  18. Noted Good advice
  19. I've only had 1 but it was no fun at all. Can't even imagine 20. Hope it passes soon. Good luck.
  20. Not a problem.
  21. I have used it and didn't care for it. It just has too much memory and was too stiff for my liking. You may be OK using it for crank baits. It sure won't hurt to pick up a spool and try it for yourself and see what you think.
  22. Are speaking of Iron silk or XL?
