  1. Saw this one crash the shallows on some shad. He took the squarebill in two casts. It was so windy, I had to cast into it inland to get it to fall in his zone a few feet off the bank. 3.2lbs. This is the second bass of this size I've caught in the past few days with a bloody tail. Information seems to point in either direction in terms of its sex. Is there a current definite answer?

  3. The Grove can be tough like that(for me anyway). I often get skunked there and give up and go somewhere else and come back a couple weeks later. It's some of the better scenery in the area for bank fishing, I certainly like the solitude of it. Depending where you're coming from, turn onto Johnson Rd(next to Houston Middle School) off Wolf River and take your first left into that neighborhood. Follow that road around and your first or second left should be into a little parking area. We went back to that private pond today. The bite dropped off tremendously from yesterday. Landed "just" 6(10 less than yesterday) between the 2 of us in a couple hours. No size to speak of, but the crappie seem to be enjoying the squarebill I've been tossing. Could we have just lucked up on a large population of fish yesterday and subsequently pressured them out in just a 24 hour time difference? We were tossing the same lures and everything. Needless to say, we're going to take a brief break from that hole for a little bit.
  4. Between two of us we landed 16 today in a couple hours on a private lake from the dock. Caught on spinner, senkos, and squarebill. For some reason the crappie just couldn't stay away from me. My buddy landed a 5lb, and another larger one broke his line right as I was pulling it up on the dock.
  5. 3lb on a black/blue spinner in muddy water.
  6. Up in Piperton for a crawfish boil on a private pond. Of course I brought my fishing gear. 3lb on black/blue spinner.
  7. I think it's just a little pond for people and kids to fish for stocked bluegill. I doubt it's meant to fish very seriously.
  8. We just left Gaston's White River Resort in Northern Arkansas. We hit our limit of 15 rainbows early on, and spent the rest of the day catching and releasing. After spending about 8 hours on the river we popped over to the little pond on the resort. I lost count after landing 8, hooked into I don't know how many. They were biting the second the plastic worm hit water.
  9. Found this little guy floating/swimming lazily on his side. I scooped him up out of the water to snap a quick pic, and he flopped out of my hand. I thought for sure he was dead, but I put him back in the water and he swam away. Definitely the smallest bass I've ever "caught". And I also saw this one cruising rip rap for shad, two casts and he took the lure.
  10. First bass I've pulled out of the Grove in a loooong time.
  11. It was the best day I've ever had there size and numbers wise. Caught all 3 in about an hour. Didn't get another bite over the course of the next 90 minutes.
  12. Biggest was 4.5lbs. I didn't weigh the other two, but 2.5-3lbs if I had to guess.
  13. Solid day at Johnson-fountains. The biggest was 4.5lbs. The rest were in the 2.5-3lb range.
  14. I'll be around, but plans with wife Sunday. Sorry, bud.
  15. 4.74lbs. Pulled from one of the ponds beyond the trees back by Chic Fil A Germantown.
  16. New PB at 4.74 pounds. He was quite a bit of fun to bring in.
  17. Had two similar instances happen to me recently. I was bank fishing a little cove where I noticed bass feeding on shiners. The cove was separated from an adjoining pond by a small land bridge. As I was tying on another lure with my back to the water I heard drag being taken. So I turned around and another guy decided to drop in not 10 feet away from me. The sound of his drag was due to him being hung up in a tree, so I got a bit of redemption in that instance. The next day at a different pond, another guy dropped in nearby, and then walked over to me to show me fish he had caught out of the pond recently. As someone who prefers personal space, I told him I was heading off. He stood in he exact same spot I was previously in and caught something first cast. So I walked over to watch him land the fish, which turned out to be a (pregnant)catfish. He asked if I wanted it, I said no, then we just looked at the fish. So taking the silence as a hint, I dug my pliers out and removed the hook and tossed her back in for him.
  18. Nothing fancy or big, but the Grove gave me this little nicely marked/colored crappie today(hit on a crankbait).
  19. Last week I was throwing my lure with my back to an incline where I laid down my tackle bag. Of course, my lure got caught on the bag and almost threw my bag into the water. Lost about 3/4 of brand new spooled line when everything was said and done.
  20. Keep your eyes down, everyone. Watched this little guy creep around at Johnson-fountains.
  21. Caught 4 today. 3 small bass, 2 of which I was able to spy from the bank and enticed them with soft plastics. Got a fair sized crappie(1.67lbs, ~13 inches) too on a lipless crank.
  22. Well, I'm glad someone's catching something. I haven't caught a fish in over 3 weeks(!) and it's driving me insane. Closest thing was a bass who tried to run with my jig, but the weed guard prevented the hookset. It seems that everyone that I've seen lately has been fishing for crappie, and having pretty decent success at it.
  23. Weather is nice today. Here's to next 3.5 hours of work flying by. Hoping they're biting today, March has been brutal to me with on and off weather and lack of landing much.
  24. In the times I've been able to get out lately(which has been slim--always seems to be raining when I get the chance), the bite has been pretty tough.
  25. Hit 6 ponds in the area over the course of 4 hours(including drive time). Grabbed up 3. Chunkiest being around 3.5-4lbs at Fountains again! Went to Shelby Farms to check out Patriot Lake. That pond is giant. I drove in the entrance and turned right around. I didn't want to break into a pond that large today. I went to the pond far down the path in Johnson too. That pond would be killer if dialed in. Went around the left side this time, and fished around the line of trees on a "sand bar". I wanted to keep going around, but the quicksand kept me from going any further.
