  1. Really digging the topwater frog. Booyah Pad Crasher.
  2. Will do for sure!
  3. I'm so sorry to hear that, brother.
  4. Still out here catching fish. Where's everyone been?
  5. Size only matters in tournaments, and possibly elsewhere in your personal life. As long as you're catching fish, you'll be having fun. I've never seen someone angry after reeling in a fish. And to your second point, catching them on bait outside your usual comfort zone adds to the enjoyment. Refer to above, I landed my first from a top water frog and I was more excited about that than the near 4lber off a lure I always throw(crank). It opens a door to new ways to fish, and you can build confidence and your repertoire from that.
  6. Couple days' worth of catches. Largest went for 3.9. The boys that ran over to watch me pull it in said it was 6 before I broke out the scales--I like their measurement better. More importantly, I caught a 2lb football on a top water frog for the first time ever.
  7. Got off work at 3, torrential downpour. Sun finally broke through around 4, so I got after it for about an hour--no bites. Went back home and power went out around 7:30. Had a few minutes of daylight to take advantage of, so I went back out and nailed this one through the nose after a few casts. Sidenote/advice needed: what's the typical choice of bait during the waning hours of sunlight? Top water?
  8. Neshoba, Johnson, and some other public pond right off Wolf River/Farmington(forgot the name of the park, my first time dropping in). 3.25 and a 2.3 pictured.
  9. Some catches from the past couple days. Largest was 3.25, second largest 2.3(bottom right). I had 3 spit the hook, which is always frustrating. The 3lber hit the Senko before I could even close the bail. Just hanging out in about 6 inches of still water.
  10. Dinks for days. But at least they're biting. Lipless crank, black/red flake Senko.
  11. All the dead fish have been cleaned out as of Thursday afternoon. Finally pulled a bass bass out of Halle. And I got a couple out of Grove, and Johnson: Size seems to be a common thread.
  12. They did in fact come by and take the dead fish out. And I caught a couple out of there, so they're not all dead and perhaps the die off was short lived.
  13. I fished for about 4 or 5 hours Monday without catching anything, and maybe only getting a couple nibbles. But I was enjoying my solitude outside, and it sure beats sitting on the couch watching TV.
  14. I live in a Memphis suburb. I contacted TN game and wildlife and they sent me to my local parks and rec. I'll probably swing by there again today and take a look. If anything I hope they took out the corpses. It's a bit eerie fishing near buzzards. The other pond(with the two fountains) that I referred to earlier in the thread appears to be in the midst of an algae bloom(I think). I caught a couple out of there yesterday that looked completely healthy. The bubbles were from the rain:
  15. It's been tough around these parts lately with the high temps. So I'm happy with these 3, despite the size. One on a lipless crank, two on black/red flake Senko. I had been struggling with my Senko hooksets lately, as I have always kind of used them as a last ditch effort. However, thanks to this forum, the sweep hookset is working like a charm. I also stepped down to a 2/0 offset hook from a 4/0 offset wide gap. The fish on the left came out of a separate pond from the other two, just 5 minutes down the road. I found the difference in their color interesting.
  16. Good to know, thank you. The other larger pond in this park has two large water fountains, which I assume help with aeration. The water was a lime green color yesterday in one area. I'll snap a pic later today if it's still there.
  17. Update: it's definitely a fish kill/die off/turnover or whatever you want to label it. The water temps have been around 90 degrees lately, and apparently this happens in this pond every year around this time. They are going to send someone out to check thout water anyway to make sure there's not any other issues.
  18. Johnson front pond seems to be in trouble. I'm going to call the game and wildlife department tomorrow. Update: definitely a fish kill/die off/turnover. Apparently this happens every year at Johnson. So keep that in mind if you're struggling to find any (live)fish in the front ponds.
  19. I was here 4 days ago catching bass, nothing really seemed out of sorts. I did notice that some of the large fresh water clams were floating, something I hadn't seen before. The pond is in a public park with little to no vegetation. There are 3 small ponds in a direct line, all connected by "dams" with drain pipes allowing water and fish to travel between them. Other animal species that frequent the ponds are typical--birds and turtles. So is this a true fish kill, or what else could've killed these fish off so fast? I intend on contacting the local wildlife and game department tomorrow.
  20. Mine also does that, and I haven't even cared to try to get it back to pounds. I am getting good with the metric system though.
  21. I'm in Memphis and it's been tough for bank fishing as well. Our water temps also seem to hover in the low to mid 90s. Shaded parts of ponds are almost the only place they're hitting. Senkos and cranks, usually around 5pm or later. Hopefully we get an early Fall, but I'm not holding my breath.
  22. I can't even line my rods without my dogs getting in the middle of it. Forget even trying to take them with me.
  23. Got a couple 1-2lbers out of the front pond at Johnson yesterday around 5pm on a lipless crankbait. That water is very warm right now. My pool is 95 degrees currently, and the pond water is at least that warm.
  24. I've found that the Academy brand H20 Express work well enough without spending much, so I don't flinch if I have to cut it off of a snag. The trebles seem to bend a little easier than I would like, however. I regularly use, and have success with, the Ghost Shad lipless and Bluegill squarebill.
