  1. Oval split ring with a barrel swivel tied with uni knot
  2. Until this Summer I have never had a bad experience with tournament fishermen. Over the next couple weeks there are some bigger tournaments and a lot have been pre-fishing it hard. Sunday the fishing was hard, so I went to some lesser known coves to hit the banks it is narrow, no wake, and very hard to pass another boat without being an ass...... Halfway down the cove a big Ranger comes off plane 30 yards from me and is irritated at my slow trolling speed He decides to pass and jump directly in front of me. I am sure I could have dented his motor a dozen times with my TRIG. Normally, I would wanted to have a chat, but Sunday I was just ticked at the way he was representing our sport. Hours later at the country store, a few other guys commented on similar occurrences this Summer. Marine Patrol has also noticed a significant amounts of complaints. In my younger years, I am sure there would have been a different outcome..... Sorry for the vent, but little things are big things!
  3. I took a different approach. I am very close to being ambidextrous. I qualified expect with rifle and pistol both L and R. Can bat, golf, and shoot a puck almost as good L as R. That said, setting a hook with my R is distinctly better and my R hand more sensitive to touch. It's just more natural for me NOT to change hands. If this was Winter, the replies will be a mile long.........Do what feels natural and don't waste time trying to confirm.
  4. That type of detication these days is uncommon....Great job!
  5. While it doesn't answer your question directly, I would not hesitate to buy another Avid
  6. I have the 3000 as it would be my ocean bay real if needed
  7. I was of the same opinion until yesterday. Almost shut out and had a real hard time just finding them. Surface Temps dropped 6 degrees in 2 days and winds in almost all directions. Heard they were at 50 feet! Never looked there... Going out tonight to see if I can right the ship
  8. I have handles all of them and have a few Avid and a few e6x Overall quality and and usages are better with the Avid If your anal about cork and such, the GLX MBR would be my choice and you can find them used on many forums......but it is in a totally different class
  9. Of what you listed, the Avid all day long.
  10. Not sure if money is a concern, but the price of ammo may enter the picture A day of training with a.45 takes a bite out of the wallet where 9mm can be had anywhere and cheap. I tried the 40 and found it to be a "snappy", expensive and harder to find round, which also brought me back to the 9. While it is hard to argue the merits of the 45, if you don't have the perfect platform, getting the second round off quickly and on target can also challenging.......think this is why military folk have a fondness for the 1911. That said, in today's world factoring in New bollistics, $, reliability option and the amount of bullets able to carry, one can see the benefits of 9mm No intentions here of starting a caliber war, just pointing out why many municipalities have gone 9mm
  11. I have several S&W 9's and have never had a malfunction.......never! The trigger would need some work, but it's a small price to pay for confidence in a weapon
  12. My son is a State Cop and the glock 45 is the pistol issued and there is no choice in the matter. Lucky for him the training is excellent and the practice rounds put down range is considerable . Since then, he swapped out all his other pistols to glock and now is second nature. If I was you, I would not try to make this choice for your son. He needs to put a several in his hands and send some rounds down range.
  13. Burkinstock makes a quality sealer
  14. I have used them to add weight to senkos on 10 lb FC without issue SDJ is my preferred knot with FC with an improved uni close behind
  15. I think it's great you asking the question. I have been fishing with a 14 year old student and he is awesome because he ask.... What can I do? What do you want me not to do? and he treats my boat like it's his. He is aware that I recently had heart surgery and is there to help, albeit launching or there with a net. While I tell him, "what's mine is yours", he always ask..... In short, manners count. I never take $$$$ for recreational fishing, but the offer is appreciated.
  16. I hate it when folks do what I am about to do, but I would consider A loomis M/F MBR (glx) and have something far more universal, given your situation. It handles senkos better than many ML and can me used for many more techniques. Apologies for not responding to the direct question
  17. As your aware, we're I fish there is always wind. I think I can achieve an A- by adding loft to the cast and let nature do its thing. Surface tention will still add to the pendulum effect, but it is a reasonable compromise. Of course this only works in open water If you use your rod to move the bait instead of the real, the differences fade. There are still tons of guys that prefer slower speed BC's. I am not one, but recognize the fact. I usually use my rod to move the bait and high speed reel to pick up slack
  18. When your student throws his chatterbait before you even deploy your TM 4.7 LM 4.0 SM
  19. I have 2 9sv's on my lund and love them
  20. I think it might be to heavy for a ned, but I do see it as a bottom contact rod....also, do to get to caught up on fast vs xfast. I see it as jig and worm

    Walmart

Tiss true what they say about Walmart folk, but I honestly am one of their biggest fans. In my area, they employ the unemployable and give them a reason to get out of bed in the AM. Many retired, disabled, and under employee Vets have opportunities that if left to the mom and pops, would not exist. ........but let's face it, a 300 lb lady in a bikini wearing plastic cowboy boots, is kinda funny
  22. I think you answer is obvious based on the the state ants above. For me, bottom contact requires sensativity, thus more expensive rod. Moving baits require less, so the same is true here. The issue for me is weight and pain. Having had wrist, shoulder, and back issues, a light rod is my solution......more expensive! I too have expensive reels, because for me it is about the combination. Feel and balance make the sport more enjoyable and the lack of backlashes, even more so Fishing is about the total experience
  23. My cranking battery has always been 100% charged when I return from my trip. If your motors alternator is goo, just but the chargers to the TM batteries and carry a portable battery pack. Truth be told, I added an alternator to send the extra charge forward to my TM batteries and they too are often topped off
  24. .....side note as soon as you cast position your feet and body and be prepared for a hit on the fall. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a friends line move sideways and he missed because he was late...
  25. After finding them, getting them to bite comes before setting the hook. I think #2 is harder
