Lake Hickory, Lookout Shoals Lake and the Catawba river are all within 30 or so mins of Hickory. Not sure if any have good bank fishing access or not. I'm planning on making a trip down that way before long to give lookout shoals a try.
I mounted mine in the same place as you did. I really like knowing that the floor of the boat is there to catch it instead of the water! Too many tree limbs hanging off the bank for me to justify mounting it on the right hand side of the console. Even if I wasn't a lefty it would still be mounted on the left side.
If you get tired of catching those ski's come down here and I'd be glad to trade you a small mouth trip for a muskie trip! Twenty since last August is really impressive!
I've seen several people fishing the little Piegon River that flows right through Piegon Forge. Never personally fished there myself but my brother a I have been considering taking a trip out there for smallies after seeing several people fishing there last year. Good luck and let me know how you do.
I've been thinking about a out of town trip or two this summer. I've never fish any water much other than the river. Are there any rivers around your area that have good fishing?
I live in Carroll County in SW VA. Never fished the waters your talking about but do plan on heading to Hungry Mother in the next couple months to try out the walleye fishing.
I've caught smallies in the dead of winter throwing a T rig and fishing VERY slowly. I usually wait and fish on warmer weather like you mentioned but have caught several nice ones in colder weather on the New.
Float pods welded on the back will virtually eliminate the boat rocking or leaning as you mentioned in the first post. My boat isn't any wider than my friends boat but is twice as stable because I have pods on the back of mine. Just a thought to consider with a tin boat.
