  1. Have any of you guys tried the PH Custom Lures Crazy Ace? It seems very similar. It floats on top, has a propeller on the back, a popping style mouth, and can be burned, popped, walked, walked, buzzed, etc. I bought a few whopper poppers, I haven't yet tried them, they seem to be a similar concept, except they probably leave a bigger bubble trail or louder buzzing sound. The PH Crazy ace doesn't have as big a propeller, but it leans side to side a bit as you retrieve to give the bait an extra motion. Any thoughts or comparisons?
  2. Welcome, what part of Ohio? I'm in Toledo
  3. If you are ever in the Toledo area, let me know. I fish NW Ohio and SE Michigan quite a bit.
  4. Where in ohio? I'm in Toledo and would love a fishing partner. I've been fishing for the last few years for bass all around ohio and Michigan and have been pretty successful.
  5. Fluoro stretches 35%, mono stretches 38%. They are exactly the same when it comes to stretch.
  6. I catch more bass when it's raining, choppy, cloudy than when it's sunny. They are on the prowl and bite anything!
  7. If you ever want to come fishing in northwest ohio or southeast Michigan, let me know. Lot's of great stuff. But I'm sure you are a short drive from some of the nice Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri lakes.
  8. Just post a no fishing sign one day. See what happens.
  9. Couldn't agree more. I'm also in Ohio. Northwest Ohio. Farm ponds are definitely the best. The bass will bite anything! Where in Ohio are you?
  10. Lol. I guess we are all the same. I do the same exact thing. I figured we all do that. I spend more time re organizing my tackle boxes and adding to them than actually fishing. Lol. ?????
  11. But then you end up spending most of your time messing with your setups. You go from spending time fishing to spending time setting up for fishing. I've seen a lot of people fall into this cycle. They spend way more time and money setting up, buying tackle, rather than fishing. (I'm not saying you are doing this, I don't know you, just something I notice my friends doing) Also, sometimes part of the challenge is to leave one rod with one reel with one line in your trunk and use that single setup to try and fish every lure and every technique. You learn a ton and get very very good at adapting your techniques. I love that challenge. Just leave home with 1 rod. Fun times! Tight lines!
  12. I use both. 90% of the time I use spinning. Spinning does pretty much everything you want.
  13. 20# braid to a dual swivel 3/4 ounce lead weight to mono or flouro leader to a floating jig head with twister grub or creature or big worm. Only reason for the mono or flouro leader is so that you can break it off if necessary. Usually you need to break it off in rivers with rock bottom beds. This way, you don't lose your entire rig. I use this for walleye in the river in ice cold March weather. If you are on most soft bottom lakes, you don't need a different leader, can use braid for that too.
  14. 15-20# braid will probably solve your nose issue. But all line makes some noise. Use silicone lubricant on your line and line guides.
  15. Fish can't see braid. Their vision is not strong enough to resolve that. They've done studies on this. Fish can't see it. Just to drive the point home, we use 50-75 pound stainless steel leaders with huge metal clips, fish still bite.
  16. 20# Spectra Power Pro. Can use it for everything.
  17. I use 20# power pro braid in dark green for everything. Even frogs. Fish can't see line nor clips.
  18. I use 20# braid (power pro) for everything. No leaders. I even use a metal clip so I can easily change lures without re-tying knots. Catch tons of bass. I think we give fish way too much credit. They can't see the line, nor the clips. It's the best line for almost every application. If you switch to braid, use slightly less powered rods (one notch less for each application), you'll get the same feel and same hook sets. There is almost no need now for any other type of line.
