  1. Link to cheaper seaguar on amazon? I’ve never seen invizx cheaper than the price on tw at the moment.
  2. Tried taking the handle-side side plate off on my Chronarch MGL earlier this evening and got the 3 large screws out. The side plate would not come off, I realized there is one tiny screw below the guide for the thumb bar. Not having the correct screwdriver size for this screw, I just reassembled the handle and drag star plus the 3 screws I removed. Does anyone know the size of the screwdriver needed to take this screw out. I'll probably pick it up tomorrow after I go fishing. Also of note, it's weird that there is a small pin on the outer end of the drag star that looks like it mates with the bottom of the handle. Haven't seen that on any of my other Shimano reels.
  3. I haven't fished spinnerbaits much until this year, would usually throw a chatterbait instead when I wanted some vibration and flash. I found that after every fish the wire arm of the spinnerbait is bent out of shape and I need to bend it back. Is this something that happens often or does it happen with cheap spinnerbaits? The spinnerbaits I own are made by Strike King.
  4. Used my Jackall Giron the first time this evening and the paint has already started chipping off in a few spots. It's the RT Bluegill (real paint), looks like a real bluegill. Here's what I have: http://www.americanlegacyfishing.com/jackall-giron-rt-bluegill-real-paint.html Anyone else have problems with paint chipping of on their Giron?
  5. What two rods go up to 5/8 and 1oz? The only rod I mentioned in the quoted post was the 904 swb which is rated 1/2-3oz with a mod-fast taper. There is no IMX crankbait rod, I mentioned in the previous post, before the one you quoted, the g loomis fiberblend rods which are crankbait rods. If I were you I'd get the IMX 904 swb*. It will throw cranks and swimbaits that weigh 1/2-3oz. You want the mod-fast taper to keep those trebles from ripping out when you use a heavy crankbait on the rod. On the flipside, keep in mind with the mod-fast taper, it will require a longer sweeping hookset with the single hook swimbaits. It will also be perfect for heavy treble hooked swimbaits. * - G loomis also makes this non-IMX swimbait rod: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/G_Loomis_Swimbait_Rods/descpage-GLSR.html The only reason I'm replying to this thread is that I just went through the same search for a g loomis swimbait rod and I only use g loomis rods. I want to throw Jackall Girons and Gantarels, R2S S-wavers, and the Megabass I slide 135. All those are treble hook swimbaits and weigh from 3/4-2.5oz. All things considered, I settled on the IMX 904 sbr. Now I'm just waiting to find one for a good price, ~$200 like they had nearly all other IMX models priced at around the Bassmaster Classic.
  6. You're going to have to let us know if you're throwing single hook swimbaits or treble hook and the weight range of the lures, also the weight range of the crankbaits you'll be throwing. I'll go ahead and assume treble hooked swimbaits. I believe the 904 swbr is the lightest swimbait rod with a moderate fast taper from g loomis, you'll want the mod-fast taper for the trebles on the swimbaits and cranks. I believe it's rated 1/2-3oz. If the swimbaits and crankbaits you think you'll be throwing fit that lure weight range, I'd get that rod. Though it is not on sale. If the swimbaits are say at the heaviest up to 1.5-2oz, you may be able to get away with a heavy or extra heavy crankbait rod.
  7. It sounds like you want to throw crankbaits on a swimbait rod. If you're throwing heavy swimbaits get the swimbait rod. If you're throwing heavy crankbaits, ~1oz, I'd get a heavy crankbait.
  8. I should elaborate on this as I quickly typed it on my phone. After removing the shields on the bearing in question, I noticed hardly any grease inside. After soaking it in acetone, the bearing barely spun with a little bit of acetone still inside of it. After a few spins and the acetone gone/evaporated. The bearing hardly spun at all, unlike when I clean my spool bearings in acetone, those things will spin forever. Rolling the pinion bearing with my finger while it was on the tip of a pencil, it did not feel rough - but of course it did not spin freely like it should considering it has just been cleaned in acetone. I packed it with grease, put back on the shields and the reel is quiet. However, I believe this is just a temporary fix and that the bearing itself is damaged, I have yet to order a new one. I can update after some long time use with the reel as it is now if I remember to. It is also worth noting that I have used my Curado 70(and all my reels) many times in the rain especially on the river, rising water gets the smallies feeding up, like the recent warm spring rain when my reel starting making noise. @cddan I got your PM but I'll just reply here. To remove the shields from the bearing, use a pin or fish hook to pry the retainer clip from the groove in sits in under the outer edge of the bearing itself. You could probably find a nice video on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXmZhfvH9y0 Here's a video I found quickly searching, forward to the 1 minute mark.
  9. Mine Curado 70 did this last week while I was fishing in the rain with a spool of braid that also absorbed a lot of water. It was the lower pinion support bearing, the one that's in the frame. I removed the bearing, removed the shields with a pin, cleaned it in acetone and lubed with Shimano drag grease. The sound is gone, it's a little stiff feeling in the handle, but it should loosen up as the grease is worked in.
  10. The first thing I did with my 70hg was flush and oil the bearings and that spool spins super fast. I have to use all 4 brakes plus 2-3.5 on the dial for everything from 1/4-1/2oz. On another forum I'm on, I remember reading a thread where most had to use all brakes on and different dial settings because the spool was just too fast. This season I need to try 2 on and 2 off and maybe just use roll casts and more thumb to see how I like it. When I first got the reel, I started with 2 on 2 off and just backlashed, I put on all 4 and kind of 'set it and forget it' and used it that way all last season without issue.
  11. Depends if you want fast or extra fast action. I've handled a few of the 2016 GLX's and I'd say their tapers are 'true'. I own the 853 JWR and have limited use with it due to the weather, but I've used it for 3/8oz jigs and I think it's great. I only plan to use it to fish jigs and trigs from 1/4oz to 1/2oz plus plastics. I think for weightless senko's and 1/4oz and less rigs, plus the cover you described you will be fishing, I'd go with the 2 power rods. Personally, I like length so I'd go with the 842 MBR with the fast action for more versatility. But, I'd get the 852 JWR with the extra fast action if you plan on only using it for the applications you described. I plan on adding a 842 or 843 MBR soon, possibly the 842 as I just broke a 6'10" medium power fast action rod.
  12. Don't post here often but I'm in the west suburbs of Chicago. Definitely getting out this coming weekend on a lake or two and the Dupage River.
  13. I see Tackle Warehouse lists the weight of the Zoom horny toad as 1/8oz. I imagine unless you are using a 1/4oz weighted swimbait hook, you can't cast these on MH or Heavy casting gear. I'm curious to know your guys set ups for this technique (lure brand, hook type - weighted? Single screwlock hook or frog hook with 2 points?) as it's something I'd like to get into this summer. I use a MH-F rod with 40lb braid for my hollow body frogs and would like to use this set up for the soft body frogs as well. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Zoom_Horny_Toad_5pk/descpage-ZF.html
  14. I haven't used scents in a very long time but a recent passing thought got me interested in something to spray on jigs and plastics. Scouring TW I happened to find BANG's attractant in several different flavors. Good reviews and available in a spray bottle and aerosol can. Haven't tried it out yet but I plan on picking up a bottle of 'crayfish' or 'pure craw'. Interested to hear if anyone here has used this product. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/BANG_Fish_Attractant_5oz_Aerosol_Spray/descpage-BANGATR.html
  15. I bought this scale yesterday. It includes a lip gripper and a tape measure is built in. Only the problem is it won't ship for 1-2 months, not really a big problem considering there will be ice here for another 2 months. https://www.amazon.com/ReelSonar-Digital-Scale-Measure-Gripper/dp/B00W9ME9AE
  16. Thanks DVT, just wanted the assurance that the acetone wouldn't damage the plastic part of the AR bearing. I take care when using the acetone and understand its hazards. I've used simple green in the past because that's what I had handy and is more 'user friendly' to use in my opinion. I've considered seeking out the clear version of simple green since it would make it much easier to tell when you need to change the liquid when doing multiple soakings.
  17. Reading mixed opinions as to whether it is safe to use acetone to flush the AR bearing since there is some plastic in it. I'm going to flush my AR bearing since I put too much grease on it while cleaning my reel and there was some back play upon reassembling my Shimano curado i. Once cleaned I plan to just lightly oil it with bantam oil since that seems to be the most popular method.
