  1. I just rig them like in this video. No need for different jig heads. Works for me very well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6Mh0nDFCT4
  2. As others have said when you set the hook you don't hammer it like other baits. Reel down and give it more a sweep to the side
  3. I think it just feel thing. My shorter rods just feels more comfortable and easier to use. Could also be a I need more practice with the 7 foot rod Now that is true. I would get snagged even with an ice fishing rod
  4. I fish from the bank exclusively and use 2 rods. One is a 6 foot spinning rod and one is a 7 foot baitcaster. The 7 footer I find is too long for me to do a lot of pitching and flipping with. I just can't seem to get it down because it feels too long. I can do a lot with the 6 foot spinning rod. Should I downsize my baitcaster to a 6 foot rod?
  5. I was thinking that I was releasing the fish. No one will believe me
  6. The line was coming out of the gill so I only assume it went in the gills first. Took me a little while to figure out how the line was coming out of the gills on the one side. And then after that I foul hooked a little guy. Finally caught two big ones in the same spot. It was a strange day at the pond for sure
  7. Today while fishing the strangest thing happen. I somehow managed to catch a bass with the bait going through the gills on on side and not hooked in the mouth. I caught him as soon as the bait hit the water right next to shore. Somehow it must have landed right into his gills. Very odd.
  8. Guess who else watches youtube all the time. Kids. They don't want to watch fishing shows on TV but they will watch them all day on youtube. I am all for getting young people into the sport and youtube is doing that. Not so much with the traditional old school TV shows. Don't like it then don't watch but for I have learned far more from youtube any of these TV shows and they put out far more content far more frequently. Not to mention youtube tends to show more guys who actually fish. Most of these TV shows are staged on private lakes with fish that were caught before filming. I am sure some of these youtube guys do the same. You can also get reviews and opinions on a wide variety of lures. The TV shows only takl about their sponsored companies. Again youtubers have sponsors too but they also talk a lot about other lures. The model to make money is completely different than TV.
  9. Thanks guys. Going to give a try. Might as well save some money
  10. I was looking at getting some top water toads the other day and as I was looking at them their legs reminded me of craw style baits. So I got to thinking that I could just try and craw bait and see if I could get a similar action. Has anyone used craw style baits or any other type of soft plastic as a topwater bait? I am a bank fisherman and don't want to carry around a ton of tackle.
  11. Good video on the new Z-Man stuff. Love the new plastics. Can't wait to try them on the Ned Rig.
  12. Saw these new possible products from Z-Man. Since I love all things Z-Man I am super excited. http://www.icontact-archive.com/jjiXoF3Cf8NfV-NNtAkNpWY-7ODXPWFe?w=4 http://payneoutdoors.com/z-man-introduce-slingbladez-spinnerbait-icast-2018/
  13. I use the ned rig a ton on small murky ponds. Almost always use junebug or black and blue flake. I use a variety of z-man baits to. Not just the TRDs.
  14. I try different lures but always go back to the Ned rig and TRDs
  15. Yes. That is why I wonder if it is a Vengeance and they just put a Silver Max sticker to make it match. You can't buy a Silver Max rod by itself
  16. I got the Silver Max combo as a gift and the rod said Silver Max. I wonder if it is just a rebranded Vengenance. This is the spinning reel verrsion.
  17. I was just sent a 7' medium heavy Abu Garcia Vengance rod from Abu Garcia for a warranty replacement on a Silver Max that broke. Does anyone know if this is similar to the Silver Max? Seems nice and has about the same specs but just wondering since I don't know much about it and they didn't send the same rod as a replacement.
  18. Me too and yet I keep buying them anyway
  19. That is exactly what I thought for a little while. This particular pond is pretty dirty so until I got a good look I thought they were bass making all the noise.
  20. All good advice. I didn't fish there last spring so don't know if this is normal. Maybe I will give carp fishing a shot if I can't catch any bass. They are pretty big.
  21. There is a 1-2 acre pond near me that I fish a lot. Been fishing there for about 6 months. Lately I have been seeing a lot of carp in the shallows that I haven't seen before. Fishing has been slow there lately and I am wondering if the carp is a problem or if they can co-exist with the bass and panfish in the pond without worries. I would hate to lose this spot. It is a good place to take my kids.
  22. All good advice. Much appreciated. I may start with either the split shot or the beetle spin. Something they can keep moving. May throw in the Ned Rig and have them drag it along the bottom with a continuous slow reel. They can work that way. No matter what it will be fun. Gotta get the next gen hooked like us.
  23. My kids started fishing last year with live worms but now want to move on to fake baits like daddy. I was thinking of starting them out on the Ned Rig. Easy to fish and catches lots of species. I have road runners and beetle spins too but I thought the Ned Rig would be easier to cast with a little more weight. Thoughts?
  24. I went through my backpack and made one plano with lures and terminal tackle and a zip lock with a few soft plastics. Going to bring the couple lures I use often and one new one to try out.
