  1. Thank you everyone for your answers! It's been extremely helpful. The Rebellion and Expride does seem like excellent options, im leaning a little more towards the expride due to the cork handle. As for the Expride, I noticed some models has a "+" at the end of the SKU and they seem to have an extremely wide range for lure weight. For e.g. the 163MH+ is 10-42g. Compared to their "normal" MH rods like the 167MH with a smaller lure range of 10-30g. How would you recommend to choose between the two? Would the action of the rod be very similar? I think that a 6'6"-6'7" rod might be fine for me but something a tiny bit shorter (6' - 6'3") might be better as im a little of the shorter side.
  2. Thanks! It does seem like it'd be a great all around rod, tho im wondering if there are any recommended rods that is equally as versatile in the 6' - 6'3" (maybe 6'6") range.
  3. Hi guys, i only fish UL (BFS), throwing 2-3g lures and would like to expand to an all purpose rods to target bigger species such as snakeheads, which requires thicker line as well. As this is a completely new territory for me, i would love to tap onto yalls expertise. As for my budget, Im currently looking at rods priced similarly to the Expride, particularly the 2 piece variant of the Expride 167MH or 166M. Ideally i would like to stay on the lower end of 6’ and not go beyond 7’. As for lures, i intend to do a little of everything including crank baits, top water and spinners. What are some other rods you’d recommend? JDM rods are preferred as they are much easier to find from where im at. thank you very much!
  4. Thank you very much Bulldog. I'll definitely look into these rods especially the Black Lable travel rod!
  5. Hi guys, Im currently in the market for a new BFS rod. I'm thinking of trying a "higher end" options for once. I'm looking for a travel rod for the ease of transport, ideally a multi piece (4/5 piece) rod. Currently im using a ex-fast 6' 4" rod which i do feel is a tad too long. Though casting distance is important to me but the comfort isn't there for me. I mainly fish from the bank of reservoirs and lakes. For lures, I mainly use lures around the 2g - 3.5g range. These lures are: 1.5" soft plastic w/ 2g jig heads small 3g crank / jerk minnows. However, I do want to try "replacing" the hard plastic with 2.5-3" soft plastic jerk baits such as the DoLive Stick , rigged weightless ( around 3g total) as I do fish in relatively rocky waters so loosing hard lures gets a little expensive after a while As for fishes, I mainly catch peacock bass and zebra tilapia. My budget is around $200-300. I do notice that travel BFS rods are mainly made for trout, thus they are a lot softer and shorter. The MegaBass Great Hunting line ( GHBF53-3UL & GHBF60-4L) has caught my eye, tho im unsure how a soft rod would feel. I would love your thoughts on rod recommendation. Though im unsure if im asking for too much for a rod. Thank you~
  6. Hello Y'all~! Recently decided to pick up the hobby once again and surprisingly found my XT1000. Back in the days I was trying to cast lighter lures so it has a Yumeya Shallow spool and those smaller bearings (From hedgehog studios i believe). I'm curious how much (BFS styled) baitcasters technology has improved over the years. How would my XT1000 with the shallow spool and bearings compare to today's modern reels? What would the biggest benefit be from a modern reel? Thank you~!
  7. Wow! This thread exploded with information. Yea, it seems like JDM company is the "go-to" for BFS rods as of now. Some companies that I am looking into to get my rod from are MajorCraft, Shimano (Zodias) and Jackson (trickster / wretched).
  8. Hello everyone, will be getting line for my new yumeya spool 32mm spool. I was wondering what are the recommended line that is recommended for a BFS setup. I would rather go with braid but there seem to be soo much braid on the market its quite hard to choose from. Is there certain brands/model of braids that BFS users tend to prefer? Thank you!
  9. Thank you! Will check those guy out Yea, I find that reels are alot easier to find compared to rods for BFS.
  10. I have been searching up as I really want to get into BFS. I know there is a lot of hate on it as many dont see the point in spending so much money on a casting reel where a cheap(er) spinning reel can do the same. I understand that but I just really like fishing with a BC reel. I've searched a ton on the reels and know that a small sized reel with a shallow spool will get the job done, either off the shelf models like the aldebaran BFS XG or something like a after market spool from Avail. Maybe get the hedgehog air bearings to improve the castability of lighter lures. However, I was wondering about the rod. How true are the lowest limit on BFS rods like the Zodias, *** or MajorCraft. What rod properties will benefit both catching bass and throwing lighter lures? Do you get a rod with a softer back? One with a faster taper? Any rods you guys would recommend checking out to cast true 1/8oz lures? Maybe some that is alittle lighter, like smaller minnows of weight ~2-3g? Or is casting 2-3g with a BC setup wishing too much? Thank you all
