    Afb Club

I group of guys I met here and I have started a new club and series called Alabama Fishing Buddy. We are a small group of guys trying to make our club a success. grow larger and will be having our first club event on Feb 4, 2012 at Neely Henry from the City Ramp. Come out and join us. We are just a bunch of friends that enjoy fishing and want to welcome anyone else that enjoys fishing. The majority of our members are new to fishing, so don't worry. We don't do the politics involved in some clubs. We are family-oriented. We are totally not for profit. We like the compeition invoved with friends and are accepting of anyone that shares our believe that bass fishing is for everyone with the desire. We will have events every month on a different lake, plus we will have a number of charity events in order to give back to the communities that we fish in. It is going to be fun. So if you want to join a club, but are skeptical about how you will be accepted--come out on Saturday and meet us.
  2. It's pretty easy to make your own mold. I actually made one on Saturday night. I used fiberglass resign, fiberglass harder, and a flat baking pan. Pour the resign slow to avoid lots of bubbles, and use the right amount of hardner.
  3. Jigs, T-rigs, Light flipping work - 7' MH with 14-17 lb Flouro Shallow cranking - 6'6" M with 14 lb mono Mid to Deep Cranking 7'0 MH Fiberglass with 12-14 flourocarbon Jerkbaits and weightless works 6'6" MH with 12 flourocarbon Frogs 7'0 MH with 65lb braid Medium Flipping 7' H with 17 lb flourocarbon Heavy Flipping and Mats 7'8" H 65lb braid Top water 14lb mono with 6'0 or 7'0 M to MH
  4. I just like to think of it like this: If the fish is not bright with color or dark with color is has been in relatively deep water. If the fish is has lots of bright or dark color, it has been relatively shallow. Pale = deep Vivid = shallow
  5. I just got a logo berkley bag from wal-mart on sale for 7 bucks. It's not the black bag, is clear with a large berkley logo. Have you checked any corporate sites to see if they buy chance sell them or contact the company and see if they would sell you one.
  6. If you are fishing a tournament, then it is cheating. Any other time, it's fun. I actually won the live bait vs artificial challenge on Friday. I was getting ready to launch my boat and had been talking to this guy at the while I was getting the trusty Triton ready to launch. I invited him to ride along and fish. He gets a 5 gallon bucket and a box of worms and climbs in. I actually beat him from the front deck on my artificials, but I did steal a couple worms to catch some bream on a drop shot. OR did he beat me, because he left that black dirt all over my back deck? :-?
  7. What lake are you fishing?
  8. where in california are you? I just moved back from AL from So Cal but know a few guys out there that might be able to help you.
  9. That is jacked up, sorry man. I had the same thing happen to me about 2 weeks ago. I was out at a lake and figured out the fish were on a shallow topwater presentation. i missed this fish under and overh hanging tree. I know he had to be at least 6. I was throwing a SkitterWalk. He came out and crushed it, I se t the hook to fast. I fished around the cove some more and trolling motored back a half hour later. I made the same cast, same retrieve, I let the bait sit still and reached down for a smoke. THE WATER EXPLODED and I missed him again. I had caught a 2.5 and a 3.3 on the day, but i was upset about that one. Normally on my topwaters, I follow up with a fluke or senko. I just drop anything else back in the same spot and dead stickor slow retrieve most of the time, ie shakey head, drop shot, texas rig.
  10. I used to fish a little pond like that. All shoreline vegetations, I used to flip stuff right off the bank and get bit. My baits of choice were 1/4 ounce jigs, 1/4 ounce spinnerbaits, a small buzzbait, and a wacky rigged senko, and weightless trickworm. The problem that I see if the water depth, if it is averaging 1 to 2 feet. the problem I had was tules along the banks and hydrilla out in the middle. 1/4 was perfect for my jigs, I could flip holes in the tules, but it was light enough that it would sit on the hydrilla mats. I think you could punch those pads with a heavier bait, but I think the bait would move so fast to the bottom with that depth they would never get a look at it.
  11. This is one of those topics that is never going to to have an answer. The way I have always looked at it is anyone who wants to call himself a pro, can be a pro;in just about anything. I can call myself a professional carpenter because I can build something with a hammer and nails, but am I a legitimate professional carpenter--NO. Would I stand in a room of professional carpenters and say I was a professional carpenter and let my creditials speak for me?--NO. I think it is the same with fishing. If you put up the money and fish against the pros, then call yourself a pro. Are you a legit pro though? Would you be willing to stand in a room of fishermen, announce yourself as a pro, and let your creditials do the talking against others that say they are pro? When you can answer "Yes", then you are a pro.
  12. I'm not thinking of really confining the club, Membership would be open to anyone in Alabama. I would want to have tournaments in all points of the state. This would also be something that would be for family fun. While members fishin, tournaments would be held in locations where family members could hang out and enjoy each others company, while us members got down to business. The information is easily gathered from the internet. I am an FLW Federation member in California. I am orginally from Alabama (been here 2 years and decided I don't like Cali) so I am moving back and want to continue in the Federation and just pass on some of the things that have been important to me in the 2 years I have been a member.
  13. I run a 2002 Triton 186, the payment is $267 but I took over the loan from a buddy of mine who got a 2005 Z20..I think that is what he got. Never paid much attention, cause I have always like Tritons.
  14. I have a 6'6" shimano mh that I like to throw. It started out as going to be a frog stick. I liked the feel so much that sometimes I will switch reels and use it for spinnerbaits, topwater, jigs, have thrown senkos and other plastics with it. I think MH is the most versatile rod out there. The only thing that I wish is that I actually would have gotten those extra 6" and purchased the 7'. I am going to get a 7' pretty soon though--been salivating over it. GO WITH THE 7'
  15. I used vanish all the time and then switched a few reels to 100 trilene. I have never had a problem with vanish, but like the trilene also. what i have started doing is using trilene on my finesse applications because i have noticed that the lower test trilene are strong as heck. The way my budget has shaped out lately, I have had to cut some costs, so 6 and under I use 100% and 8 up I use Vanish.
  16. West Point is a good crankbait lake. Last time I was there, I had a DT-6, DT-10, and DT - 16 in bluegill and was catching fish in all those depth ranges on cranks.
  17. That was the same thing i said when i moved here from alabama. i live in San Jacinto in riverside county. I have fished Skinner, DVL, Lake Hemet. I mostly fish tournaments down in San Diego or LA County. Fishing around here is pretty good. It has kept me from repacking the uhaul and going back to bama.

    alabama.

I miss you guys so much: Bankhead, Lay, Logan Martin, Lake Martin, Guntersville, Eufaula, West Point, Wheeler...somewhere without 10-12 feet of visibility. I am orignally from Troy. Lived in Birmingham, and Green Pond(West Blocton area). Now, I have been living in California for 6 months (the wife wanted to move back home for a little while). If I have to spend too many more tournaments drop shotting or split shotting (a carolina rig with a spilt shot on a spinning rod), I think I am gonna go nuts. I finally found a couple lakes where you can flip and pitch, and by the grace of the Almighty--catch a spinnerbait fish. Fishing out here is a little different, sio I am adding to be versatile. When I move back in 2 years---oooooo it's on. Roll Tide. Go Trojans.
  19. I have heard it is a pretty good lake. I know it is the only lake in Southern California that has Spots. I hear that overall the bite is pretty decent there.
  20. This is how my wife puts it, "You worked for it, paid all the bills, there is food in the house, and the kids are happy. As long as you aren't spending it on drugs and other women, I don't mind".
  21. I just don't think you can beat a good ole rat l trap. I did buy a strike king red eye shad that I plan to give a whirl.
  22. I was in wal-mart with the wife to get baby formula and diapers and soda. I always cruise sporting goods, just to see what the wally world might have. This night I happened upon a clearance rack with plastics and spinnerbaits on them. The strike king spinners baits were a dollar, the had 5 inch grubs and a wave worm tiki drop goinf for .30 a pack. I grab a hand full of spinnerbaits cause I am a blader. Then I looked at the plastics and grab every package of grubs and all but 5 out of the 25 packages of the tiki drop. I hardley use grubs and have never fished that tiki drop, but I just had to have them because of the price. I've got about 30 bags of plastic grubs now and 25 bags of tiki drops now. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU MIGHT HIT A JUICY PATTERN.
  23. The time I fished it during an ABA tournament, those fish were acting funny. I probably would to it was 45 degrees with a 15 mph wind in November . A lot of those guys in the tournament that caught fish (over half the field blanked) caught them on jerkbaits, because they had suspended and weren't relating to anything particular. I am sure you noticed all the submerged grasslines on the deeper banks. I tried punching the grass, with no luck. We did find lots of fish relating to the grass, that would simply follow a jerkbait, but would not eat it. I think they would totally kill a deep suspending jerkbait on those grasslines with the right weather. Just my 2 cents. When I fish my next tournament there, that is one I going to try to pattern.
  24. I am pretty new out in Cali but a lot of the tournaments I fish are out in San Diego area. I have fished El Cap a few times, San V, but was really looking forward to going to Otay. I really like the way that San V set up when I fished there, but zeroed the event. I also missed the event for Otay, but was itching for that one because it sets up like a lake back in Alabama (flipping and pitching) and I was drooling over my map. Just from what I have read, natural colors work in plastics blacks, browns, purples, greens. I think they actually call them "San Diego Earthtones". I am looking to buy a boat here in the next month or so, I love fishing down. If our schedules match when you get out here, I'll take you out with me.
  25. I wasn't too fond of them last time I fished it. Seemed like the "mommie/daddy money" type to me. Didn't seem to know anything about fishing or boat safety either.
