  1. I use a lot of mono or hybrid fluorocarbon lines. I find that I change the line after a month of solid use (3 to 4 trips a week) I change out the line mainly because it is getting low on the spool from all the retying of lures. Also I peel off about a yard of line after every trip to start the next trip with line free of nicks and abrasions. If I have line on a reel and have not used it that much I would change it at the end of the year. I like to start the year with fresh line.
  2. This is not the case of no news is good news. At that price point there are so many great reels. A new reel at that price point would really need to stand out. This reminds me of another company that made primarily rods and tried to branch out into reels. It wasn't pretty.
  3. I will stick with my Whopper Plopper. I don't really care how much cheaper these other baits are and for me the frugal fisherman that says a lot. The WP is one of the most economical baits I own. I still have my original Bluegill colored WP 90 that I bought 2 years ago. I have caught dozens of fish on it and have not had to change the hooks yet. I might pick up a Choppo, just because I love all things Berkley.
  4. Tie between my Rebel Bluegill and my Berkley Squarebull 5.5 in Bluegill color.
  5. In these late fall/early winter months I don't like trailers that have appendages with a lot of action. In really cold water situations I use a 3" Yum Dinger as a Bitsy Bug trailer. As others above have stated, spinning gear is the way to go with these lightweight jigs.
  6. 3 quarters of an ounce to an ounce which is heavy to me as I am a former finesse only guy.
  7. I start with the magnetic brakes on 7 and work down until I am comfortable with how well I can cast a lure without backlash. I keep my internal brakes at 2 on, 2 off for mostly everything. I use my baitcasters for heavier baits generally around the same weight. If I was going lighter baits I would pick up my spinning gear
  8. 6lb Suffix Elite on my size 100 spinning reel. 8lb Kastking Fluorokote on my size 300 spinning reels 10-12lb Berkley Big Game on my topwater dedicated baitcasters 12lb Kastking Fluorokote on the rest of my baitcasters 20-30lb Kastking Superpower braid on my flipping/frogging baitcaster
  9. On my dual break baitcasters I usually have 2 brakes on 2 brakes off. The 9 and 3 breaks I have on and the 12 and 6 off, if you look at the brakes like a clock.
  10. Christmas bonus time! Got my check Friday, just in time for the 15% off everything code on EBay. Ordered a Lew’s Mach Crush baitcaster combo from American Legend Fishing for $129.00 It should be here by next Saturday.
  11. That blemish on a new rod would destroy me. I have some interesting quirks. Some of them involve letting people try out or borrow my new stuff. The answer is always no. That applies to the reverse as well. I don't borrow or try out others stuff. The reason is simple if they break or destroy my equipment all I expect is a sorry from them. I am stuck with the bill to replace. In the past if I broke someone else's item, my hand went immediately into my pocket to give them the money to replace. I avoid that now by not borrowing anymore. I have a whole rack of loaner rods and reels for friends...
  12. Your welcome. I have run out of money to take advantage of this sale. Glad someone did. Great choice and fantastic price BTW! I just bought the Lew's Custom Pro Speed Spin for $80 original price $120 last Saturday. The code would have made that already good deal criminal.
  13. I have. Awesome barbershop smelling stuff. Smells just like the Clubman talc my barber uses after a haircut. The original Cremo smells like oranges in case anyone is wondering.
  14. I use Cremo original formula with a light layer of Gilette Foamy lemon lime shaving cream on top when shaving. The Cremo makes the razor glide and the foamy helps me see where it's going, plus I dig the smell.
  15. Nope. I enjoy buying fishing gear almost as much, if not more than actually fishing itself.
  16. Today only 15% off all sporting goods (includes fishing) on Ebay Code: PERFECTGAME
  17. Using live bait is not cheating. I fish artificial baits 90% of the time now. I was brought up fishing for Bass, panfish and saltwater species with live bait. I can only speak for myself when I say there are times when artificial baits have done better for me than live baits. If it were cheating in some cases it would be like copying the stupidest kid in school's answers to the math test.
  18. I have a new appreciation for the white, orange and neon green rods this year. They can be seen a mile away which is helpful when they are sitting in your kayak's rod holders. Another reason was I was actually able to locate a rod that went overboard earlier this year because it was white.
  19. My current favorite lure is my Rebel Bluegill squarebill. I changed the stock barbless hooks to some Eagle Claw Laser Sharp red trebles. I throw it on a size 300 spinning reel and 8lb Fluorokote line. I thought I lost it last month but was able to catch it on another lure and reel it back in.
  20. Kastking Perigee II $59 I have both the spinning and casting versions for when I travel The rod is actually a 3 piece rod, comes with the handle and 2 tips, 1 medium heavy and 1 heavy. It's like getting 2 rods in 1.
  21. That's a great combo, especially when you get it on sale. I paid $99 on mine and highly recommend it. The reel is basically a Lew's Tournament MB in all respects but color and it has a graphite frame instead of aluminum like the MB. The reason these combos are on sale is Lew's has a new Mach 1 combo out for 2019. Looks like the reel has the "combat" paddles now and the rod has a Winn Grip instead of the old combos high density EVA foam.
  22. I have the Lew's Laser SG1 rod. Surprising quality for a $50 rod. Nice cork split grip rod IMO. I also like the Abu Vendetta. You can get a Lew's LFS on sale for $69 at American Legacy Fishing. Great reel that falls in your price range.
  23. Tournament MB all the way. It's my favorite baitcaster ATM. It is a smooth casting, rock solid, dual brake reel.
  24. Lew's LFS on sale at American Legacy Fishing for $69 with a 10% discount if you sign up for their newsletter. https://www.americanlegacyfishing.com/lew-s-speed-spool-lfs-casting-reels-51416.html
  25. Kastking has an Aluminum framed reel, the Spartacus Maximus https://www.amazon.com/KastKing-Spartacus-Maximus-Profile-Baitcasting/dp/B06XW8T28M It also comes in Seafoam Green color https://www.amazon.com/KastKing-Spartacus-Maximus-Metal-Baitcasting/dp/B07J4QZDYW Low end to me is $100 and less. My vote would be for the Lew's LFS. You can find this reel on sale most of the time in the $60 - $70 range.
