  1. Compared to the Ugly Stick, yes. Compared to $100+ rods not so much.
  2. A spigot joint is associated with 2 piece rods. The two pieces will not fit together completely on a spigot joint. The Ambition rod in your link is a 1 piece rod.
  3. Back in the day I used nothing but Ugly Sticks. Now I just use them for saltwater. Nothing wrong with them other than the sensitivity. Good rods in the Ugly Stick price range: Lew's Carbon Fire Kastking Perigee II Fenwick Eagle
  4. I agree, try and find something with a spigot joint. My Kastking Calamus has has a spigot joint and I have had no issues with it. Great ultra light rod. Used it for Trout fishing and a little Bass fishing as well.
  5. There is a great video on YouTube about the history of Abu Garcia. I recommend it for anyone interested in the history of fishing in general.
  6. My wife and I have a system when I go kayaking. I text her every hour I am on the water. It's either, "I'm Ok" or a pic of a fish I caught. If she doesn't get the text she will send me one. If I don't answer she knows something is wrong.
  7. I agree. I like rods 6'10" to 7' when kayak fishing. That's the Goldilocks size for me. Not too short, not too long, just right.
  8. A chatter bait is a jig with a blade. Jigs are responsible for some big fish catches, especially this time of year.
  9. Joking aside, abused gear is why I don't like renting anything. I would love if people treated rented items the way they treat their own. Scratch that, stupid idea, I have seen how some people treat their own stuff... The idea that I could rent a rod, reel or lure to try out would not appeal to me unless I am getting it brand new, out of the box condition.
  10. Grats to the Pats and their fans.
  11. I have come to trust my auto inflate PFD less since reading this thread... There is always the mercurochrome red color nylon over foam blocks they sell in Walmart for less than $10 in the meantime ?
  12. LOL ? Good luck today and enjoy your Super Bowl Sunday
  13. Menu has changed. Instead of buffalo wings we are having meatball parm subs made on garlic bread. Still need the Rolaids.
  14. All the “strong swimming style” and “on the water survival training” won’t help you if you are unconscious. Fall out out of a boat at high speed. Dump out of a kayak and hit your head on a rock. Pass out from low blood sugar or heatstroke. Hit your head on a low hanging tree limb while caught in current. You think it won’t happen to you until it does. Don't put a price tag or fashion sense over your life. Get a good PDF in a bright color. Mine costs half of what my kayak did. When it inflates it is a yellow color. I am going to invest in a good non-inflatable kind this year as well.
  15. I can’t cut the cord. I am a TV junkie. I have cable and streaming services like Hulu and Netflix. I pay an obscene amount of money for all that. It goes under the “entertainment” part of my budget, which includes movies and dining out.
  16. I always associated pistol grips with spincast reels. If I purchased one, being right handed, I would have to buy a left handed baitcaster to go with it. That would bring back memories of my spincast days as I didn’t switch hands after making a cast with those combos. I like the idea of a shorter rod on a kayak but I don’t think the pistol grip would fit in my rod holders.
  17. That’s a great deal. Even THE REEL TEST on YouTube loves that reel. He was critical at first of how Kastking’s new offerings are in the price range of the well known and established brands like Shimano and Daiwa but he became impressed with the reel’s casting ability and other features.
  18. @greentrout and I are the resident Kastking cheerleaders on these forums. I can’t speak for him but I know I am tired of popping on these threads to suggest Kastking as a good beginning baitcaster. The chorus of “$60 Daiwa Fuego beats everything” has worn me down. Even when you can get a Kastking baitcaster for less than $30 with the right sale. I have had baitcasters for years and rarely used them. 2 years ago I bought a Kastking Stealth and Spartacus. These reels when set up properly were virtually backlash free and helped me fall in love with Baitcasters. I never had that kind of success in casting with my Abu Black Max or Daiwa Megaforce. I have since graduated to higher quality baitcasters like the Lew’s LFS, Tournament MB and Mach Crush. The Kastking baitcasters will always have a place in my heart though. I still use my Kastking Speed Demon regularly as it is my fastest baitcaster. The rest have gone to my son.
  19. Which one did you get? The $34 one with the carbon fiber paint job or the $44 one with the words "Carbon Totally" printed on the side?
  20. Nice selection. My prep for open cooler water was similar. I purchased the top two baits in this pic. The patterns are two of the Bass forage on my waters, Golden Shiners and Perch. Also replacing the split rings and trebles.
  21. Shishamo was a bad name but Fishdrops is worse. Every time I see that name I think of what Channel Cats do to my kayak when I catch them.
  22. That's not mauve, it's salmon... I am thinking a Barbie rod.
  23. I can do both but the wife only thinks I can do one. Not to hard to guess which one. BTW that's just the way I want her to think.
  24. I am with you. I don't buy used gear but if I did this would be my philosophy. Like others have mentioned I see used stuff for sale when the same item brand new is on sale for less than the asking price of the used item.
