  1. My similar experience was a knot issue. I don’t think I did a proper pass through of the hook on my Palomar knot loop. While I was fumbling about I think the hook might have popped back through the loop I fed it through before I cinched it down. Fish hit, I Set the hook, fish went running and knot came undone.
  2. Hard to beat those Carbon Fire rods when they go on sale for half price. I have a ML spinning rod for three seasons that’s seen it’s fair share of action and is still going strong.
  3. $50-$60 range: Kastking Perigee II, Abu Garcia Vengeance, Lew’s Laser SG1, Lew’s Xfinity, Fenwick Eagle. All great choices.
  4. Dick’s Sporting Goods has the bulk packs of 30 Dingers on sale 2 for $15 They also have Yum baits on sale $2 a pack if you buy 5 or more.
  5. Signs of life have returned to the North Country Hudson River. LMB and SMB action was great. Saturday was rainy and chilly in the morning sunny and nice in the afternoon. Fished before breakfast and after lunch. Morning: Afternoon:
  6. I have the same combo. The rod is stronger than it looks or feels. This weekend I was fishing on a wall 20' above the water's surface. I caught Smallmouth in the 2 pound range and had to airlift them with the rod to the top of the wall. It held up fine. This pic gives a idea of the height. I was also ripping a crankbait through dense vegetation as well in another spot. Thought I was going to lose the lure twice, it was so entangled. The rod held up fine to this punishment.
  7. I like the 1/4 oz in red & white. From shore a steady retrieve. On a boat or kayak a lot of jigging. Easier to get it back if it snags while on a boat or in a kayak.
  8. Similar situation for me. My home inspector is a friend’s dad. He found mold and termites in a house we put a bid on. Very treatable problems but we backed out. It was then I decided to purchase a newly built home. My home inspector help make us aware of some issues. We had them fixed before we moved in. Even new homes need inspections. That house with the termites and mold was back on the market with no mention of the problems.
  9. Lew’s Mach II metal speed spin. Aluminum framed spinning reel, 10 bearing system, 6.2:1 gear ratio (Over 30” per turn) with Winn grip knob. On sale at tackle warehouse now for $49.99 normally $79.99 2 seasons under it’s belt and mine is still going strong.
  10. 6’6” Medium Light Rod, size 100 spinning reel, 4-6# line makes a really great Panfish setup.
  11. My theory is they represent a fish belly color or an albino fish.
  12. I use the pearl white Yum Dingers in 3 and 4 inch sizes. It's a productive color for me. Bonus is that it is easy to see while falling through the water column.
  13. I am a nerd in my soul. I would buy this bait for the name alone. Interesting concept a "bleeding" smelly bait.
  14. Bank fishing here and no surprises for most productive lures at this time of the year. Wacky rigged stick bait and the TRD Ned Rig.
  15. I fish light and medium light rods with a size 100 reel and 4-6# line for Panfish. It's not uncommon in these parts to hook up with 15+ inch Chain Pickerel while targeting Bluegill and Pumpkinseed.
  16. If he wanted the Fire reel you can let him know Fuego means fire in Spanish.
  17. Rise from the dead one year old thread! Have 5 Lew's baitcasters. Love them all, no issues yet. Anyone can get a lemon. Contact their customer service and they will make it right.
  18. That loud part comes from his Dad. If you ever seen his folks on his vids he has a New York Dad and a Georgia Mom.
  19. 2" Eurotackle B-Vibe in green pumpkin is my go to "smaller size" swimbait I fish them on a small darter jighead.
  20. Wow! I like to travel light but that is ultra-light I use a sling backpack from Samurai Tactical this season and I love it. Holds just enough gear and I can cast with it on. It holds my pliers, scissors, hook remover, fish grippers, scale, tape measure, sunscreen, bug spray, first aid kit, hand wipes, flexible cutting board, knife, 1 3600 size box (could fit another 3700 size box if I wanted) multiple bags of soft plastics, towel and rod holders.
  21. Sounds like dead sticking with too much slack in the line. Watch your line at all times for strike detection.
  22. Biggest Brook Trout of the year. On a Ned Rigged TRD I was slow rolling of all things. First time for everything.
  23. I was able to fish all three days of the long weekend. local pond and some secluded spots away from the memorial day crowds. Saturday was a great multi-species day from 2 spots. 19 fish and 5 species. Caught a limit of Brook Trout and first day that I caught multiple Largemouth this year. Sunday was another multiple Bass day including the largest of the year. a big girl off of a bed 1 and a half pounder which is nice for this pond. Got her riled up dragging a Ned Rig past her. Same rig caught my biggest Brook Trout of the year just before I got the Bass. Sunday was a quick trip but I got my first two Smallmouth of the year. and a bunch of Rock Bass also on their beds.
  24. Finally, first Smallmouth of the year! The river is still raging from all the rain we have had these last weeks. Combined with the snowmelt earlier this month this is as late a start to the season as I can remember. I took a trip to the local dam and did what my wife calls "fishing like your 16" I walked along the 4' wide wall until I got to a calm spot on the side of the dam. Dropped my worm 15' to the waters below and was able to get two Smallmouth Bass. I don't know what I would have done if I caught one over 2lbs. It was hard enough to reel these guys in and then pull them up to the top of the dam. They weren't monsters but still fun to catch and a cure for my Smallie skunk.
  25. Yes they are in certain circumstances. A super long cast might get you to a dropoff that you might have only been able to reach by boat. Topwater baits also benefit from a super long cast.
