  1. DSG right now, Lew’s Mach 2 combo for $139 And a Pflueger Monarch combo for $59
  2. I have two of the Ozark Trail soft sided coolers from Walmart. They hold ice for 48 hours under normal conditions. They cost a fraction of what a Yeti does. I love my Yeti tumblers, Colster and lowball cup. I have a few Ozark Trail knockoffs that are just as good as well.
  3. I agree. Don’t be lazy, clean the fish, then the boat, then your gear. That’s my motto. I get back in time to do all of the above. The trip isn’t over until all the above is done.
  4. Father’s Day gift from my Mom and Dad. My Dad liked how it was packaged in a box with a rod sock. My Mom liked how it was on sale and with a coupon and credit from buying my son a bike last month she paid $33 for this $80 rod. She is a deal hunter after my own heart. I was able to use it before the rain moved in today. It paired well with my Lew’s Custom Pro spinning reel. Nice looking rod. It’s light as a feather and well balanced, no pun. It’s not as sensitive as I would have hoped and it has micro guides that I am not thrilled with. Overall though I am happy with it. It replaced my Denali AttaX rod which is way to much like a wet noodle to pair with my Custom Pro.
  5. Hell yeah, Cassandra Petersen is hot in and out of makeup.
  6. Happy Fathers Day to all the dads, granddads and godfathers out there!
  7. I remember Morgus and Chopsley, don’t forget Chopsley. I would rather see Elvira or my personal favorite, Rhonda Shear of Up All Night fame
  8. On my baitcasters I use, Mono for topwater, Fluoro for bottom baits, braid for gnarly overgrown stuff.
  9. I like 6-8# Sufix Promix mono on my spinning gear. It’s strong and limp enough for spinning gear.
  10. Forgive me, I meant no offense to you and your experience level. As to your question, “Expensive” is relative. My best gear is “cheap” to some. I have no problems using my $200 Bass setup anywhere for anything. I target Bass but if I see a Carp or Catfish and the Bass Bite is off I will target the other species. I have caught double digit channels on a Medium Light spinning rod by accident as well.
  11. I catch Sunfish to Bass to big Channel Cats on my bass gear with no worries. No gear will take a “beating” if you know how to play a fish.
  12. I have received all my Lew’s mercy from purchases up until early this year. Hat, short sleeve t shirt and long sleeve micro fiber shirt. Just when I forgot I sent away for them they arrived on my doorstep. i believe you can check the delivery status online.
  13. Can’t go wrong with St. Croix. I have never been disappointed with their product. I have a 2 piece Triumph rod for traveling fishing trips for years. Rock solid tough and sensitive.
  14. Thanks for the support everyone. We should be fine. I have been taking advantage of extra hours at work. Sad part is it means less time to read and post on these boards. It is scary to see how many folks find themselves in the same predicament. Losing your job ranks in the top three emotional impacts one can experience in life. The other two being divorce and death in the family.
  15. I believe it had something to do with a floating classroom that was on the lake that day. No speeding allowed with a boatload of kids on the water. That’s why the cops were in full force. This guy was over 40 mph easy. The speed limit on this particular lake is 45 mph from 6am to 9pm, 25 mph all other times.
  16. My father in-law and I were fishing on his old aluminum boat with a 15hp motor. On the way back to the dock on a huge lake we saw a guy in a Bass boat blow by us. He was being followed by a police boat, sirens and lights going. The cop could not catch this guy on the open water. when we putt putted up to the boat ramp the cop had caught up to the guy to give him a ticket for speeding. He was cursing and muttering up a storm. He beat us to the ramp but it cost him a pretty penny.
  17. Using a reel right out of the box is the best way to determine if it has any issues. Issues could be as small as a drop of oil or grease in the right place to being a lemon that was missed in quality control (every company has them) I don’t mess with a reel until it has a few sessions under the belt.
  18. Exactly my friend. That’s the thought in the back of my mind whenever a kid needs help. You have to worry about how other interpret your helping kids. It’s unfortunate but it is a sign of the times. Back in in the day it was don’t take candy from strangers. Candy, fishing tackle, same difference different Pennywise.
  19. That’s the excuse the employers gave my wife last week when they let her go after 13 years of exemplary service. Her department is under new management and the wiped the slate clean. She is mad, sad, scared and relieved all at the same time. Feelings I had as well when I lost the job I was at for 15 years when we were only married for 4 years. Well 18 years later I am happy to stand beside her as she explores this new chapter in her life. It’s he least I can do as she did the same with me all those years ago. The new management let her go to bring in their crew. My father and I discussed this at length as he is a retired union worker. He blasts me with this wouldn’t happen in a union and I agree. I tried explaining how she wouldn’t want to work at a place that doesn’t want her but he doesn’t understand as he loves confrontation. In the end, I remember a conversation I had with a fellow employee that was let go the same time I was. She said someday you will look back at this moment and realize it was for the best as you ended up in a better place. I eventually did. I hope my wife does as well. In the meantime we are a one income family. The chances of her finding a job that pays the same as her old one are slim. Even when she finds a job we are looking at a drastic reduction in the amount of money we were bringing in. Retirement seems soooooo much father away.
  20. Mono. It was good enough for your grandfather. I find that I use some brand of mono in 10-12# line in most of my baitcaster fishing with no issues. If I was fishing dirty water slop I might need braid but I don’t so I won’t.
  21. I have been a PMP at my job for close to 15 years without a “exam” Common sense. Can’t teach it, can’t learn it, can’t test it. That’s what you need to lead, period. I have developed a line of questioning during interviews to determine if an individual has it. If they don’t I pass no matter how much edumacation they have. I learned the hard way. I had a highly educated individual that I gave a simple task of alphabetizing some work come to me. She asked how do that when all the peoples names begin with the same letter... I facepalmed. Then I told her you look at the second letter...
  22. Weekend weather was absolutely amazing. Was able to fish Friday to Sunday. The Strike King Rage Swimmer was the juice! Lew’s LFS reel paired with an old favorite rod, the Field and Stream Tec-Spec Elite 6’,10” MH/extra fast. Got some nice Smallies.
  23. The ultimate oxymoron for sure! Be thankful you were there. Everything happens for a reason. I help young anglers all the time. In the back of my mind I keep, thinking I was taught not to talk to strangers. A baby boomer, generation X thing. But the kids are friendly and I keep my distance. At the end of the day I pass on some knowledge and terminal tackle. Hopefully we help the next generation.
  24. Hard to beat a fenwick Eagle and a president. Another option is is the Lew’s Mach II combo. On sale at DSG for $99. I bought the pieces of the combo separate as I wanted a size 100 reel and their Medium Light Ned Rig specific rod. I paid around $50 for both. The Mach II reel is aluminum framed.
