  1. Comfortable? Everyone on this forum has caught a Bass with hooks (single and treble) Pulled the fish out of its watery enviroment into the open air. They stuck their hand in it's mouth to hold the fish while unhooking it by hand or pliers. Then placed the fish back in the water, gently or by tossing it in. Bass are tough. I worry most about aeration on the trip to the water. Make sure there is an airstone and bubbler if it is a long trip to the water. Other than that take him out of the bucket and place him back in the water.
  2. 1) Whopper Plopper 2) Ned Rigged TRD or Missile Baits Ned Bomb 3) Toss up between a Weightless Clout worm, Squarebill crankbait or a jerkbait.
  3. If you like them that's really all that matters. I like mine and they could come from Santa's workshop made by elves for all I care. If there is an issue with any of my Lew's reels I am confident Lew's customer service will take care of me.
  4. I have had many lures and hooks that have come flying at me bounce off my sunglasses. I wear them all the time now. Better broken glasses than a hook in the eye. I have had a few falls while bank fishing. Slippery slopes, logs and rocks. I came home a few times bruised and wet. Plenty of treble hooks in the hand. Luckily none past the barb.
  5. Change the stock hooks on the Whopper Plopper? Nope, these are on their second season and still going strong. The Fish were swiping at it today and getting hooked. http:// http:// Loving the braid I put on my dedicated topwater set up.
  6. I have the Mach 2 (green) and the Mach Crush (Orange) spinning reels. They are both aluminum framed and rock solid reels. You can’t go wrong with either one. The difference is the Mach 2 has been redesigned this year. The Winn grip knob is marbled black and green (shows dirt less) and the bail wire is now thick as opposed to the thin ones on the old Mach 2 and Crush models. I have had these reels for three seasons of heavy use and little maintenance (drop of oil now and then) and they are as smooth as the day I bought them.
  7. Hard to beat an in-line spinner for quantity fishing. Panther Martin, Blue Fox Whiptail and Vibrax are some of my favorites.
  8. I buy Kastking Superpower Braid off of the Kastking EBay store in 150 yard spools. That’s about as close to a pony spool as I can get.
  9. It's been real bad. I normally carry a trash bag with me to carry some out. Saturday at the river's edge I found empty juice boxes, go-gurt containers and a full diaper. That diaper is still there...
  10. My local Walmart was cleaned out of fishing line for the last two weeks. Since I had to go online to order fishing line I decided to purchase 10# Yo-Zuri Hybrid.
  11. It's not as bad as I thought, pics don't do it justice. It's a beautiful reel. I speak from experience. http:// http:// A lot of guys are brand loyal. I would think twice before buying him a different brand unless you see one or more in his arsenal.
  12. I love Lew's reels but no they are not the top of the line. Their flagship reel, the Pro TI is under $400. Many other companies like Shimano and Daiwa make reels that cost more than twice that much. If your boyfriend has a Lew's hypermag I am sure he will be thrilled with a Lew's Pro TI unless he doesn't like the color purple. That reel has purple handle knobs and accents.
  13. Big difference between Saturday and Sunday temp wise. In the 60's when I fished Saturday morning. In the 40's on Sunday. Avoiding Rock Bass (the piranha of the Hudson) I was able to get a few decent Smallmouth Bass on the Ned Rig and a Jerkbait. http:// http:// http://
  14. Honestly it's the most expensive reel Lew's makes. How much of an upgrade it is from the second most expensive reel they make is up for debate. Hey I recognize you now. You asked about his birthday in another thread. Are you paying for the trip to Chick as well? If you are and it doesn't work out between you and the boyfriend I think you will have a line of suitors from this forum.
  15. Same here. I have a few graphite Lew's reels. The Mach 1, Mach 2 and the Mach Crush. They are all good reels but I feel the difference in quality when they go up against my LFS, Tournament MB and Pro TI those three and the Mach 2 from the graphite bunch are always in my rotation.
  16. Never thought about eating them. I got some fatties, they would have made some nice filets.
  17. Lately I have been pulling in a dozen Rock Bass for every Smallmouth Bass I catch. Doesn’t matter the lure: Ned Rig http:// in line spinner http:// Whopper Plopper http://
  18. Looks like a Lew’s Hypermag reel. $299.00 Your a real good friend with deep pockets if you are trying to get him something better. https://www.lews.com/sites/default/files/2018-11/hypermag.jpg
  19. Topwater. Plopper, popper or spook.
  20. I know but it freaks my friends wife out. I think I made her a Vegetarian after this pic.
  21. The River here is gin clear and The fish have parasites and other nasty stuff http://
  22. They work especially at dusk. There are better lures out there. I am not a fan of the Jitterbug or Hula Poppers fixed treble hooks. I like baits that the hooks move around freely
  23. I write this everytime this subject comes up. I don’t care if people take their legal limit fish catch. More power To them, there are only a few bodies of water here that I Would keep and eat a fish from. Anywhere else and you have parasites and contamination risks that I won’t take. If I am in the mood for fish to eat I go to the supermarket or red Lobster. I take pics of all the parasites and tumors I find on fish to send to my friend. His wife and her family eat everything they catch. It’s my way of saying they might need to rethink that practice.
  24. Well I loaded my Crush baitcasting combo with 40lb Moss green Kastking Superpower braid and went Plopper fishing this morning. Caught one smallmouth and missed one. I like it enough to try it again. I might eventually go down to 30lb braid if it means some extra casting distance. http://
  25. Call Lew’s and see if you can exchange it for another TI I love mine and it’s fast enough for anything I do with it. I had to burn this Smallmouth in today. She was between a fallen tree and some submerged boulders. The Pro TI was up to the task. http://
