  1. The way to avoid this in the future is wait for a sale before you buy. I have not paid full retail on a reel in years. The only regrets I have now is if I buy something on sale and a short time later there is an even better sale.
  2. $44 dollars is a great deal. If we weren’t so many states away I would ask you to get me one.
  3. I looked that rod up. It’s The new Mach I series just called Mach now to confuse everyone, white, black and lime green. Its a 6’7” ML/F action rod. Should be great for Ned Rigs. I have the first generation Mach II Ned Rig Rod. Same exact specs and it has served me well. Not only do I use it for Neds I use it for Trout fishing with in line spinners, trout magnets, even live baits.
  4. No. But...it’s hard to pass up a $80 sale on a very popular, well reviewed reel.
  5. Kastking Perigee II Lew’s Laser SG1 Lew’s Hank Parker Speed Stick Great rods in that price range.
  6. Testing the BPS Adventur1 telescopic travel rod before vacation. I landed this big Fallfish. http:// http://
  7. Like others I catch Pickerel while Bass fishing. Anything that moves past these toothy critters mouth is fair game. I have caught them on in-line spinners, crankbaits, trout magnets, Senkos and live worms.
  8. I have my Ozark Trail knife, opens as fast as a switchblade, and some pepper spray. If that don’t get me out of harms way then I guess it was my time.
  9. In a normal year I fish mostly weekends. If weather, and back, permits (low winds, no rain) by kayak otherwise it’s bank fishing for a 3-6 hour session. Out at sunrise, back a little after lunchtime to start the rest of my day. In the long summer days I can get out after work from 5pm - 8pm for a session. Early November until Early April Mother Nature locks the fishing down tight in these parts. Retirement is at least a decade away and I am not rushing it. A teacher in high school once said that we are always looking forward, weekends, vacations, holidays then retirement. Than we blink and we are at the end of our days. Really hit home with me even in my teen years. I cherish each day for what it brings.
  10. That reel is a hidden gem. I liked the Sharky II but they knocked it out of the park with the III
  11. We rarely disagree but I have been using 30lb braid for a dedicated Whopper Plopper combo and loving it. Once it’s worn out I will be going down to 20lb braid to max casting distance. My Dad is a big believer in use as light a line as you can get away with. I guess I am a chip off the old block. Kastking Superpower braid all the way! Great 4 stand braid to learn with. It’s cheap on EBay. You can get 150 yard spools for $5 and under on sale.
  12. That guy has a great channel. He sure does love those Nikko Hellgrammites. I bought a pack just because of the amount of success he has with them.
  13. I found this in the description of the reel on the BPS site, it says it has a Carbon body: “One of the world's most popular high-performance reels gets a significant upgrade. The Shimano® Stradic® CI4+ FB Spinning Reel incorporates the latest Shimano technology while retaining all the performance features that serious anglers count on. Its super-light, strong CI4+ carbon body and cold-forged aluminum spool are now joined by Shimano's Magnumlite Rotor, which is 25% lighter than previous styles.”
  14. My drink of choice most weekends is Black Velvet whiskey, Coke Zero and a squirt of lime juice. Black Velvet has been my whiskey of choice for awhile. For mixed whiskey drinks it’s great and the price is right. I get this sized bottle for $15.99 on sale at my liquor store. http://
  15. Their squirrel tail worm is one of my favorite baits.
  16. Can anyone confirm what this reel is made of?
  17. So the G in G free body design stands for gravity. And the reel is made of Carbon tetraiodide? I think I would prefer the aluminum body FL version.
  18. General rule for me is line should come off bottom of spool for spinning and top for baitcasters. Since Spincast reel is similar to spinning I would have the line come of the bottom. Elite is limp and suitable for spinning gear so the problem should not be the line.
  19. I agree. I throw my Crush 50s 3/8oz crankbait on casting gear, med/mod rod, 10# Yo-Zuri Hybrid. No problems.
  20. I doubt our southern fishing friends will do that.
  21. This Sunfish had delusions of grandeur smacking a Whopper Plopper 90 http://
  22. Thanks. Carbon tetraiodide. You learn something new everyday.
  23. This comment is spot on how I feel. That being said I do have a cut off on rods though. I can't see myself paying more than $150 on a rod. As far as brand loyalty goes, I have rods and reels from many brands. My favorites (the ones that see the most use) are usually from one brand.
  24. That $150 sale price at BPS is very tempting. I have always had a question about what is this reel made of? The description reads "G free body" which I can assume the "G" means graphite. Ok so it's not graphite then what is it made of? My old Shimano Symetre is made of aluminum. The description on the package reads "Aluminum body" Why can't they just say, carbon, aluminum, magnesium, whatever, instead of that cryptic "G free body" stuff?
  25. I would recommend the Kastking Crixus Armor X baitcaster and the Kastking Megatron spinning reel. Those 2 reels from their lineup give the best value for your dollar. Both have aluminum frames and are priced right (especially when they go on sale) for a company that claims they keep prices low by eliminate the middle man and selling online. These reels will be an upgrade from what you are currently using. Kastking rods are great. The Perigee II series is a great value rod that looks and performs well above what it costs.
