  1. They throw back anything they can’t filet. I have witnessed the bucket brigade as well in my area. Nothing to do but call the Rangers on them. With the budget cuts I am lucky if anyone shows up. Good choice. I would avoid any physical confrontation with this man. It’s likely to end up on the evening news and the internet and you will not be the hero of the story.
  2. PB Largemouth Bass PB Channel Catfish PB Chain Pickerel All on the Tiny Child Rig this year. A Finesse TRD with a superglued mushroom weight on the end, 1/0 straight shank worm hook.
  3. I have met a lot of people and have some close friends that can’t understand catch and release. Every fish they see is food to them. They only throw back fish that are too small to eat. Understanding of culture helps in some of these situations. Hopefully you never have to live hand to mouth but there are a huge amount of people that do. This is not an excuse for the harassment but hunger makes people do some crazy things. It’s a bleak future when we value a fishes life over a human beings.
  4. I don’t own the TP 1 Black spinning rod, like you I just have the casting version. I do however own a few Lew’s spinning rods with the microwave guides. My Mach 2, Mach Crush and TP 1 White all have the microwave first guide. The guide has very little to no effect on my casts with spinning gear. Maybe slightly more accuracy. I noticed it while casting in line spinners. I was able to get in tight spots without getting hung up.It could be my imagination. This is true. I use Vicious mono fishing line. It’s 6lb line diameter is the same as most brands 4lb
  5. I shook the skunk today. I took a hike to a spot on the river up from where I usually fish. I found some points that acted as a current break. Tried cranks, weightless worms but it was the good old Ned Rig that finally broke my drought. http:// http://
  6. That’s exactly what I thought when I saw it. I liked the IM6 blank so much I picked up the medium spinning and the medium casting rods the next day.
  7. I have been hiking to a spot on my local stretch of the river that is overgrown. Only a few tight spots are available for me to fish. To fish these areas I purchased a 6’ Medium Light action Lew’s Laser HS from Walmart. It has been the first rod I own that is the happy medium of small size and great casting distance. I was surprised at how far I could toss a split shot rig with the rod paired with a size 100 or 200 reel. The rod cost $29.99
  8. It was a Berkley lightning rod or cherrywood. I couldn’t believe the difference In sensitivity over my beloved Ugly Stick. I was in a Walmart the other week in a mask waiting patiently while an old (than me) timer was looking at rods in the fishing isle. He was handling an ugly stick and settled on it. I tried to convince him to get a lightning rod or Lew’s Laser HS for the graphite rod experience. I explained to him my love of ugly sticks vanished once I tried a graphite rod. He wasn’t hearing me. Can’t teach an ole dog new tricks I guess.
  9. Grats! Anything that big in the north is a dream come true! I have been fortunate and dare I say skillful, lucky and blessed enough to catch some of the biggest fish the River stretch I fish has to offer. Bigger waters like Lake George and Champlain In my area require water craft bigger than my kayak to search out the big girls.
  10. My fishing sessions always start with a prayer. I thank God for all my blessings including having another day to fish. Fishing to me has always been being in the right place at the right time throwing the right bait while being lucky and blessed. Thanks Tom for all the time you spent answering questions and sharing your knowledge with the forum.
  11. $235 is about $30 off of the price I usually see. I would spool that reel with 10-12# Berkley Big Game mono or 20-30# braid depending on what I was fishing for.
  12. They are on sale right now as the new version is out. The difference is the new custom black baitcaster now has the P2 pinion bearing. The combo is a good one at full price. It pairs the TP1 Black speed stick with a dual brake aluminum framed baitcaster. If you can get it on sale its a great combo.
  13. I couldn’t agree more. As far as the Googan Rods go they sold out on their pre-order. Won’t be available again until December. They have 2 versions a “green” one that costs around $100 and a “gold” version that is around $150 I believe I heard someone say in a vid they are 30 and 40 ton blanks. for $100 I would rather buy a St Croix Triumph and for less than $150 I would buy a Lew’s TP1 Black before I purchase a Googan Rod.
  14. Checked other. Lew’s TP1 Black 7’ Medium casting rod. $129.99
  15. All true. I would add other fish besides Bass are biting. I don’t know about you but I love all types of fishing. I have been carrying a medium light combo for panfish. Big Redbreast and Pumpkinseed put up quite the fight on light tackle. Catfish are also a blast when you hook into a good one.
  16. Temps were in the mid 30’s this morning in Northern NY. In the cold and fog I managed to hook a dink Largemouth Bass and a 4 and a half pound Channel Catfish. I won’t lie fishing has been tough with the instability and the full moon. http:// http://
  17. Perfect beginning setup to me would be, Lew’s Tournament MP (dual brake reel) baitcaster on a St Croix Triumph casting rod. Spooled with 10 or 12# Berkley Big Game $250 well spent. Unlike most beginner setups you will actually learn to cast and love baitcasting. Wish I had this setup when I started.
  18. Cold and foggy morning Channel Catfish catch on the Ned Rig and 8# Berkley Big Game line. http:// http:// http:// The catch The release
  19. Berkley Big Game is cheap at $7 a spool of 1700 yards of line at Walmart. I buy a few spools of 8, 10 and 12# every year. They last from April to November with frequent line changes.
  20. Whattttttt? Didn’t know there was a smaller size! Of course the topwater bite is all but over in the north. I will get one of these for 2021
  21. Awesome! I have been to Tennessee a bunch of times on vacation. It’s on my short list of retirement destinations. Ten years to go!
  22. I changed line on one of my reels after losing what would have been my PB Chain Pickerel last week. I picked up some Berkley Big Game 8# line but all they had was the green color. I tested it out today in super clear water and it worked on Green Bass http:// http:// And Brown Bass http:// These are the first Bass I caught in the last few session. It has been mostly Yellow Perch http://
  23. Beautiful fish! I hate full moon fishing, If it weren't for Rock Bass I would have been skunked Thursday.
  24. I used line conditioner on my 10# YoZuri and did not notice any difference. It wasn't KVD though. Sufix Elite is Ok. Siege is better to me, it's tough stuff. Got my PB Bass on Siege.
  25. I had similar experiences with YoZuri. I went back to Big Game. I am going to try Berkley Fluoro-Shield line when it becomes available. It’s a hybrid line as well. Hope I have better luck with it.
