  1. Great review. I have 6’9” ML/F spinning TP1X for dropshotting. Paired it with a size 200 Lew’s Speed Spin SS20HS Short and sweet, it’s light as a feather and casts great. It has handled fighting river Smallies in current well. I even had to pull a fish over a log with it. Cosmetically it’s got a nice contrast between the white of the rod and the dark gray Winn Grips. I like the darker Winn Grips as they show dirt less. I noticed some sloppy glue work around the guides. That would be my only complaint. Overall I like it and would not hesitate to buy another rod in this series. Oh and I feel your pain on the Mach 2 rod. I laid mine to rest this year, high sticking a Largemouth in my Kayak this year. Since it was my fault I didn’t reach out to Lew’s I replaced the rod with one of those $29.99 Lew’s Laser HS rods from Walmart.
  2. We are expecting temps near 50 degrees and over 2” of rain in the next 24 hour period. That combined with the 32” of snow we got last week, which is still mostly here, is going to cause some flooding for sure. Then the deep freeze comes Christmas night.
  3. Nothing wrong with it, unless you are using the combos for baits and applications they are not meant for. I have plenty of medium light rods paired with size 200 reels and use them for all types of finesse fishing. I will have a Ned Rig tied on one, in-line spinners on the other and maybe a Rebel Wee Craw on the last. You won’t see me using them for deep diving cranks though.
  4. Bluegill on a Snoopy fishing pole when I was a toddler. My mom has a picture of it somewhere in her house. We never forgot the day. It was at a reservoir and my dad didn’t know you needed a special license to fish there. He got a hefty ticket and we went to the local court. Those were the days before ATM’s and he didn’t have that much cash on him. The judge let us go with a promise to send the rest of the money by check.
  5. Same here. I live with two of the pickiest eaters on Earth so the fish and ham are only for me.
  6. I think it’s more of a question of not that I have never caught a fish on a bait but have I caught more than 1. Some baits I retire after I catch at least 1 Bass that’s how difficult the struggle was. The Arbogast Buzz Plug comes to mind...one and done.
  7. Thursday forecast was for 5-8 inches of snow. We got 32”!!! I would say the forecast was off a bit... There is a car under that hill.
  8. I have rods in the Avid, Premier and Triumph series. Love them all. Great value for the price.
  9. The knowledge I have gained from these forums is priceless. Ditto on the thanks.
  10. This. Dad always has a bottle of Tullamore Dew at his house around the holidays for me.
  11. After reading reviews on the various DC reels when I get one it will be the Scorpion DC. I am the first to admit I am purchasing it only for that casting sound.
  12. Don’t they call them Tennessee Tarpon? They sure jump like them.
  13. It was. I had a shot of the Skrewball whiskey on the rocks later on. That stuff is dangerous if you have a sweet tooth.
  14. The wife and I enjoyed a “peanut butter cup” cocktail. 3oz Skrewball peanut butter whiskey 1oz Godiva chocolate liqueur 1oz milk pinch of salt (optional) like drinking candy!
  15. Still no Bass from shore since late October. It’s been all Yellow Perch and Chain Pickerel. In December it’s been all Chain Pickerel. I was blessed enough to catch this one today in the icy river waters dragging, dead sticking and shaking my Tiny Child Rig.
  16. Little John with adapter...
  17. In order: Baby rage craw Rage menace Rage Ned Cut R worm
  18. The river Smallmouth I target have a diet of craws and sunfish. I use Strike King baby Rage Craws almost exclusively when using Texas rigged craws to fish for them. Those claws really have some great action. In a pinch when the Strike Kings were sold out at DSG I picked up some Googan Baits small Kraken Kraws. They have the same action and smell like licorice instead of coffee and salt. The Bass did not notice the difference.
  19. I bought a few of these at Walmart as well. The jigs are heavier than I use so I would say they are an 8th oz The pack doesn’t say. I like these worms as do the Pickerel in my area. They look like a one clawed crawfish when sitting on the bottom. When swimming the tail has lots of action
  20. I received a rod in one of those flimsy boxes from Amazon. I ordered a one piece rod. It was a two piece rod when it arrived...
  21. I agree. I was able to get my Pro Ti for under $250 and a DSG price match. I have used it almost exclusively this year and it is smooth, silent and casts great. It is a visually beautiful reel as well as a great performer. The titanium coating really keeps it looking fantastic. The only mark on mine is from accidentally hitting it with my knife point. Even with that it is barely noticeable.
  22. I would have brought out my kayak to fish earlier in the season and fished in it more often this year. The virus stopped me. Not for fear of getting out as I did plenty of bank fishing. But fear of the kayak “flotilla” in my local rivers and lakes. People discovered that kayaking is a socially distanced activity. Kayaks were sold out in my area for months. I could not imagine having to fish around all of them. I waited until the novelty wore off for these folks before I started taking my kayak out. I caught my two biggest fish this year from the kayak.
  23. That’s still shorts weather up here.
  24. When my son was a toddler, my wife and I spent the weekend at cabin with one of my co-workers and her boyfriend. We were fishing on their pontoon and my son lost his Superman combo over the side. He was crying for a bit until he discovered the boat horn. We kept fishing while drifting. A half an hour later the boyfriend set the hook on something and started reeling it in. Wasn’t putting up much of or any fight. When he pulled it out of the water it was my son’s combo! I told him this one of those once in a lifetime stories you will always remember and tell over and over.
  25. Crazy weather. It was unseasonably warm yesterday with a high of 52 degrees. Today it was windy, cold and snow showers all day. Nothing that stuck though thankfully.
