  1. Those Ozark trail knives are a staple in my tackle bags. I have that exact green handle one. A Orange handle and a blue handle version as well. Great for cutting bait and line. They sharpen easy and hold an edge for a few sessions. If they get beat up, broken or lost, $5 will get you a brand new one.
  2. I really like a one hand assisted opening folder. My CRKT Snicker clips in the coin pocket on my jeans. Small enough for EDC, big enough to handle most cutting jobs. This blade is not spring loaded like some of my Kershaws but opens almost as well.
  3. I am a Canadian Whiskey guy but if I have scotch it’s a glass of Macallen 12
  4. Rage Craw. Hard to beat the thumping claw action on them.
  5. I believe they tried something similar with Tilapia once upon a time. Some nonsense thought that St Peter’s Fish sounded like a more appetizing name than Tilapia. Some fish have unappetizing names and are ugly as well. I would rank Cusk up there with the best of them. When it’s square, breaded, fried, served on a bun with a slice of cheese, tartar sauce and called “filet o fish” I don’t care what it looked like and the name for that sandwich is fine with me.
  6. Spinach and artichoke dip appetizer. Homemade Pizza entree. Beer and whiskey.
  7. Paddle shape. Specifically the Lew’s “Combat Grip” it has texture and I don’t lose my grip, even with wet hands
  8. I have specific “loaner” rods I give to visiting friends to use. These are rods in my collection that I don’t care if they break or not. Usually older rods or ones that are not in my rotation anymore. If I was using a friends rod and broke it I would apologize profusely and then buy him a new one. If he said no, I don’t have to, one would mysteriously show up on his doorstep from Tackle Warehouse.
  9. I shore fish and occasionally take a boat trip with my Father in-law or friends. I tried the leashes but I wasn’t a fan. More stuff to get tangled in if I flip was always a worry as well.
  10. -6 degrees here this morning when I woke up. Luckily the big weekend snow storm is passing south of us.
  11. Same here. I bought $29.99 Walmart exclusive Lew’s Laser HS rods for kayaking. Both spinning and casting. I usually have older reels in my rotation on them that I won’t cry if they go overboard. Every once in awhile a high priced combo will sneak aboard.
  12. High winds when I am kayaking Losing multiple lures in one session while shore fishing Unleashed dogs that run up on me while shore fishing. I love dogs but they can stop your heart when you are in the woods and they come charging. Worse if they growl. When they start sniffing around my tackle bag I worry they are going to get a face full of hooks.
  13. 2 rods. Sometimes I will bring a telescopic rod and reel for my 3rd setup
  14. While I didn’t buy this combo specifically for catfish it handles the occasional 4lb Channel Cat nicely. Lew’s size 300 Speed Spin combo. $99 at DSG
  15. Rods: 6’8” to 7’ especially for kayak fishing. Anything bigger becomes unwieldy. Cork grips preferably or Winn Grips Spinning reels: I like the screw in handles not the type with the knob on the other side. The screw in handles stay tighter. Baitcasters: I prefer aluminum framed reels. With reels I use all brands but I have more and prefer Lew’s. With rods I use all brands but my favorites are St. Croix. I like rods and reels to match somewhat. No Orange reel on green rod for me.
  16. End of May is usually the time we see warmer weather in these parts
  17. I buy tickets when the jackpot gets this high. I have thrown away a lot more money on a lot worse things.
  18. Help us indeed. This thread serves a new purpose for me. I will bring it up if I am ever hungry while fishing. The sight of the chicken feet soup and Balut will kill my appetite for sure. ?
  19. I have about 2 dozen combos, more if you count my saltwater stuff. And more if you count the loose rods and reels I have “retired” I typically carry 1-4 combos on shore excursions. 2 when kayak fishing (kayak has 2 rod holders) 4-8 on a boat.
  20. When I ran out of candy I gave loose change. I knew I was old when a kid gave me a side eye and asked “where’s the folding money?”
  21. Anything light, packaged and easy to carry. Clif nut-butter bars are great.
  22. Hindsight being 20/20 a preorder would have helped. It’s the best way to reserve one of these machines. Once on the market it’s like an old west shootout to get one. My suggestion would be to try Walmart or Target. My wife and I were lucky enough to get the new X-Box the day it was released at Walmart.
  23. This is sad news indeed. My prayers go out to his family at this time.
