  1. Old eyes are the debil Bobby Boucher. Clear blue fluorescent Stren and Trilene are the exorcist my friend. I use both 90% of the time when fishing mono. It really helps when you need to watch the line fishing wacky rigged stick baits
  2. I have lived and died by Fenwick Eagle's. Both spinning and casting rods. Dependable, strong, sensitive and price conscious. It's hard to ask anything more from a rod than the Eagle.
  3. My recommendation is the Kastking Stealth. Great reel, great price. Light weight, awesome drag, and once you get the brakes set right it's almost backlash proof. It is my favorite reel hands down right now.
  4. I watched Flukemasters live Icast vid on the 13 new rods and reels. The colors were puke green and trashy tangerine. Horrible, the man needs some common sense. i am not into the whole fluorescent green phase the industry is going through. I avoided the Lews Mach 1 and 2 for that reason.
  5. Thanks for the advice guys. I will definitely try a SOT kayak when I get the chance. I have done done some research and I am leaning towards the sit inside kind since I can get one of those spray guards and fish deep into October here in the North country. @GrumpyOlPhartte the Trip 10 angler is the exact Kayak I had in mind. It is a Dick's exclusive kayak and like you said it is basically a Vapor with some rod holders
  6. My family and I are on vacation this week at Lake Harmony Pennsylvania. I rented a Old Town Vapor kayak for an hour. I took my Kastking Sharky II 1500 reel on a 6' Daiwa Crossfire rod. I rigged a 3" Yum Dinger green pumpkin with purple flake wacky style. I did this in order to appeal to the most species this lake offers. Bluegill, Crappie, Bass and Pickerel. I concentrated on casting at the numerous docks along the lake and landed this Largemouth Bass. I can see while people love kayaking so much. The Old Town Vapor was very stable. I never felt like I was going to tip. It glided through the water with little effort. The fight with the fish was exciting as I felt closer to the action than I ever have. I will definitely be purchasing a kayak when I return home as I really loved the experience
  7. I went out this morning to do a field test on my new Kastking Spartacus. I put 12lb Berkley Trilene XL line on the spool and paired the reel up with my 6'6" Daiwa Megaforce rod Medium/Fast. I was tossing a 4" wacky rigged Dinger. With the magnetic brakes on 7 and the centrifugal brakes on 6 I used the cast control knob to have the worm drop slowly. I cast hundreds of times with no backlash. The reel performed smooth and silent. I ended the day with a Dink Bass and a Pickerel. The only issue I had was the cast button popped twice while casting. I might not have pressed it down hard enough before casting though. Overall I love the reel. Another great Kastking product.
  8. Kastking Stealth. If I had started with this reel when learning bait casting I would have never went back to spinning reels. Great reel at a great price.
  9. Kastking Spartacus arrived tonight. Looks and feels great. It came with a cover and a spool of 6lb masters monofilament line. Field test review to follow.
  10. I am always willing to help a young angler out with some bait and advice. I do worry about the appearance of a strange adult talking to kids has nowdays. I am always worried a parent is going to get the wrong impression. I forgot another annoying thing when bank fishing is dog walkers. I can't tell you how many of them let their dogs go right up to my tackle bag and sniff. When the dog gets a face full of hooks I don't want to hear it. They also don't pick up their pooches poop. I have to dodge landmines while fishing.
  11. When bank fishing the number one most annoying thing has to be encroachment. Someone sees you catch something and the next thing you know they are standing right next to you. When fishing in a boat I would have to say the thing that annoys me the most is boaters who don't slow down as they pass. The wake they cause is treacherous for small craft.
  12. I called an exterminator. She used poison worms and they worked. A year or two later Moles came back so I tried getting poison worms and do it myself. I found poison worms were illegal in NY at the time. I had to have a friend in another state order some and ship them to me. They worked again at a fraction of the cost of the exterminator bill.
  13. Walmart by me carries Eagle Claw Jason Christie wacky rig hooks 15 in a pack for $4 They also carry the Gamakatsu finesse wide gap hooks.
  14. I wish that Bass could come on land and take care of the Mole problem in my yard. Look for the next lure from Savage Gear to be a Suicide Mole
  15. Get some Yum Dingers, GYBC Senkos, Zoom Flukes, Johnson Beetle Spins, Booyah Spinnerbaits, Z-Man Chatterbaits. Pick up a wacky rig tool and O rings (that initial investment will save $ down the road) and wide gap and finesse wide gap hooks. Check the prices at Dicks first. I think they are running a buy 1 get one 50% on baits for the 4th of July weekend. That will keep you occupied for a bit.
  16. That's the same thing my Dad says when I show him pics of the pond Bass I have been catching. He thinks I am catching the same fish over and over. Come to think of it, he might be right Closing in on 100 fish for the year. That might not be much for some of you guys but considering I fish 2 times a week for an hour and a half max I think its pretty good. I average 3 fish a trip, like this pound and a half beauty from last night. Work, travel and weather have been my fishing obstacles this year. My vacation starts a week from tomorrow. We will staying at a cabin on a lake so I fully intend to double if not triple my fish count in the week I am there. That's if my luck holds up.
  17. Good sensible advice. It reminds me of when I was sight fishing for Bass and noticed a 2lber turning its nose up at my wacky worm. I changed colors and that didn't work. What I noticed was the Bass would follow the worm to the bottom and stare at the worm but not commit. I switched to a ned rig and when the bait hit the bottom the Z-Man TRD was standing straight up. That was the ticket as the Bass hammered the ned rig.
  18. Not necessary to ditch the Dingers as they work great in shallow water ponds. Senkos are better for deeper water. Get both and have options.
  19. So far I like them weightless. Letting sink to the bottom, twitch and retrieve a bit, repeat. I have also tried them on a dropshot and Carolina rig. It is a very versatile bait.
  20. Get some finesse wide gap hooks. Put on one of those O rings around the middle of the worm and then slip the hook under that. The hooks you bought are great for rigging the worm weedless texas style. There is a hollow line in the dinger that hides the point of the hook. Keep in mind when fishing Dingers they sink slooooow and most strikes come on the fall. Depending on the depth of where I cast I usually count to 10 or 15 seconds before I check to see if bait has hit bottom.
  21. I don't know what it is about the Kastking baitcasters but they seem to be as backlash free as you can get. Watch Youtube vids on their Speed Demon reel. AJ Gore and Southern Outdoors Fishing show how backlash proof they are. I am a believer through experience. I have my Stealth's breaks set to where I can cast a 4" or 5" stickbait a nice distance with no backlash. I don't need to feather the spool with my thumb with this reel. Simply amazing. It has become my favorite baitcaster. I ordered a Spartacus. If it is as backlash proof as the Stealth I will be over the moon happy.
  22. Rules for NY: NY Vessels to Title & Register In New York, you must register any boat that is partially OR wholly motor-driven and used on the state's public waterways. Vessels exempt from registration include: Non-motorized vessels, like kayaks and canoes. Lifeboats. Any boat registered out-of-state and not used in New York for more than 90 consecutive days. Commercial boats with U.S. or foreign documentation. Watercraft racing in a competition. The NY DMV only issues titles for motorboats that meet ALL of the following criteria: Manufactured in 1987 or more recent. Have a length of at least 14 ft. Registered in New York.
  23. Rooster Tail for Trout. Senko for Bass.
