  1. Last year I used a 1500 size reel with 6lb mono and or 8lb Kastking Fluorokote line. I am going to try using a 2000 size reel this year with 20lb braid plus 8lb Kastking Fluorokote leader.
  2. I don't color my braid. When it fades from green or gray to dingy white I sometimes cut some off. Most of the time I leave it. I would rather rub the braid close to the lure with Megastrike than color it. Color of the line doesn't seem to change the bite like I thought it would. I was worried when I tried green or black mono back when all I fished was clear blue Stren. I never experienced a drop in catches due to line color and I fish clear water.
  3. I wear a trucker style baseball cap (Columbia PFG makes a great flexfit one) with a buff. If It gets real hot I take the buff off soak it and put it back on.
  4. I feel the same way. Others in my area do not. Someone transported their snowmobile on top of their Ford Focus http://poststar.com/news/local/snowmobile-on-car-draws-internet-fame/article_6ad53200-3208-5d4e-a5c2-638b6afd6d57.html
  5. Yum Dinger. Comes in all sizes and can be rigged so many ways (Wacky, Texas, Carolina, etc.) Close second is the Z-man TRD.
  6. I have had the same problem on one of my baitcasters. I was glad it was a simple fix. I check that nut from time to time to make sure its tight. Hope you enjoy the Assassin. It's my favorite reel.
  7. I am not talking about a manufacturers defect I am speaking of breaking the rod by doing something dumb, I am accident prone. I will not return the rod for replacement if it was my fault.
  8. My biggest problem with a $400 rod is durability. If my $50 rod snaps on a submerged branch hook-set or getting caught in a door I am going to cuss up a storm and then go out and buy a new one. If my $400 rod snaps the same way I am going to snap mentally and get real depressed at the waste of money. then I have to save up enough disposable income to buy another. Chances are once I save up about $60 towards the $400 I am going to buy a Fenwick Eagle.
  9. Thanks for letting us know.
  10. Great year, here's to an even better 2018!
  11. I like a lot of YouTube channels, some of my favorites that people here would probably like: Scott Martin Lake Fork Guy Catfish and Carp Ike Live And some most would despise: Onerod onereel fishing Extreme Philly Fishing Jon B Alex Peric Lunkers TV Realistic Fishing First State Fishing I find most of these videos better than the stuff that passes for entertainment these days on cable.
  12. If I am not fishing I am watching programs with fishing related content. Things like Wicked Tuna but also YouTubers. Just like anything else they have their place.
  13. My choice would be the Denali AttaX Series 7' Medium Casting Rod. Runs about $119 I love the Winn Grips and the action on these rods.
  14. I rented an Old Town Vapor while on vacation. I was also able to rent a Pelican Trailblazer. There is a lake in my area where you can rent kayaks by the hour. I found this was the best way to get some real time usage out of a kayak to see if you would like to purchase it.
  15. My fishing resolution is to fish more crankbaits and do some cut bait catfishing. Non-fishing resolution is to start using the "Platinum Rule" when dealing with people. Golden Rule = treat others like you would want to be treated, Platinum Rule = treat others like they want to be treated because they might not like the way you treat yourself.
  16. Woke up this morning to -11 degrees It's 10 am here and with a bright sun shining it is still -2 degrees.
  17. I would go with the Trion as well. I have a rear drag model with a wooden knob that is over 7 years old. It is one solid reel, a true workhorse.
  18. You wife is wise and right. Let it go.
  19. I hop it along the bottom very slowly. I even dead stick it at times. I get a lot of fish that way.
  20. We have a lot of that here in my area. Most 5lb Largemouth Bass claims are really 2-3lbs. at best.
  21. I had the Spartacus and really liked it. I broke mine when taking it apart to clean and lube the internals. Up until then it was pretty solid. The only complaint I had was a sticky thumb bar that would engage on a hard cast. It has the dual braking system which makes it VERY hard to backlash if set correctly. You will feel the body flex if dragging fish out of cover, I know I did. As far as baitcasters go Kastking has the following in price lowest to highest: Royale Legend/White Max Spartacus/Spartacus Plus Stealth Assassin Speed Demon Spartacus Maximus You have to get to the Stealth price level and above before the true quality for price appears IMO. For a reel to be in the price range of the Royale Legend and Spartacus they had to cut corners somewhere. I am sure those corners will show up sooner rather than later.
  22. Sorry for the late response. Congrats on the new job. I wish you and yours the best for the holidays.
  23. Congrats, that's a nice Bass!
  24. Smallmouth Bass and Pickerel love the WP 90 That's all I seem to catch on mine and I am not complaining.
