  1. Yes. I buy a pack of nails from the dollar store and they work for me. I also use them with the 5" swimming Dinger (a Yum Dinger with a paddle tail) and have no issues. I fish the Neko rig much like a Ned Rig. Cast out let it hit bottom and slowly hop it back to the boat, bank, kayak. Most of the time the hits come on the drop.
  2. First Jerkbait Bass of the season. The frugal fisherman strikes again. Bought a Lunkerhunt perch pattern jerkbait for less than $3 from Field and Stream this week. Tied it on for the first time last night. Patience and persistence pays off when Jerkbait fishing. Spent an hour walking the banks casting and retrieving with a jerk, jerk, pause, jerk pause method. This beauty hit it less than 5 feet from shore.
  3. Same here. I use mine for some heavier cranks and topwaters. The light weight of the Assassin lets me fish these heavy baits for longer without fatigue.
  4. Doesn't @Bluebasser86 use a Spartacus with a Seaknight? spool for casting really light baits? Edit: Found it, baitcasting set up for casting 1/8 oz jigs.
  5. I remembered something I do last night when loading my tackle bag that I don't think anyone else does. I store crankbaits I frequently use in a empty coffee can. Gives them a nice coffee scent if you leave them in there long enough. Hey if the coffee scent works for Strike King why not for me?
  6. I will try the #4 and if it doesn't work I will move up to a #3 Thanks.
  7. What??!!?? My friend you haven't lived until you tried getting both set of crankbait trebles from one of these beasts toothy maws!! Caught this week, pliers needed:
  8. I agree but he did say he was a crazy person though...
  9. The Bass are starting to bed in my area. For the last few days I have seen shallow bass over the telltale circular patterns. First day was easy I was able to cast a floating crankbait past the bed and retrieve it through to get a Bass to swipe at it. Second day not so easy. Crank didn't work, Wacky rigged Dinger didn't work, weightless Fluke didn't work. Last thing I tried was a Berkley powerbait Pogy Swimbait firetiger color. When I swam that past the bed the Bass would grab the tail then spit it out. There is an exposed hook near the head of the bait but the Bass wasn't choking it. I stayed at it, casting and retrieving over that bed for an hour with swipes but no hookups. Finally I changed my angle and casting from the side rather than straight out and the Bass choked it! all in all I worked this fish for about 1 and a half hours with different baits before landing it.
  10. Me too! Both poor and curious!
  11. This is true. I have only been able to get out on my kayak once this Spring and it was a bust. Wind and cold water were the norm so far this Spring. Can't wait for the action to heat up. I absolutely love kayak fishing. This will be my second season doing it. It has opened up a whole new world of fishing to me.
  12. Here are my favorites and the way I like to use them: GYBC Senkos for deeper water, t-rigs, weightless t-rigs and wacky rigs Yum Dingers for shallower water, weightless t-rigs and wacky rigs Biospawn Exosticks for football head jigs Zoom Trick Worms for Shaky head jigs and Carolina rigs Missile Baits 48 worm for Neko rig, wacky rigs, cut them in half and use the halves for Ned rigs.
  13. I broke out my Arbogast Buzz Plug Jr last night for some pond fishing. I had a blow-up under some low hanging tree branches but failed to hook up. Next cast my line got fouled up in those branches and pulling it free I somehow lost the double hooks that the Buzz Plug came with. I am looking at the loss as a gift as I didn't like the stock hooks it came with. I am thinking of adding a split ring and a treble hook. I have a size 4 treble hook do you guys think that will suffice for the Jr. Buzz Plug? Will a treble even work as the lure was designed with the double hook in mind?
  14. Flukes. I have only caught 1 fish on them and it was a Pickerel. Those dang things will bite anything that crosses their mouth. I want to like them but I can't master them. I have tried T-rig, T-rig weightless and hooking them upside down. Nothing works.
  15. I am glad your son is feeling better.
  16. I started using P-Line Floroclear 4# line this year. I have tied on inline spinners small swimbaits, small crankbaits, jigs and baitholder hooks using a palomar knot. No issues so far. I caught Trout, Largemouth Bass and toothy Pickerel. I lost a weightless plastic on a cast because I didn't retie my lure after catching 2 Pickerel. I also lost a small crankbait that I could not get unsnagged. Line snapped while trying to work it free. I expected it might as it was only 4# line
  17. It depends on what you think is in the pond and what you are going for. My local ponds have everything from Trout, sunfish, perch, carp, bass and bullhead. I go for trout and bass when I am there. I down size from my kayak gear when fishing for Bass out of the pond as the biggest I have seen come out of there was less than 3lbs.
  18. I have 8lb Kastking Fluorokote on most of my size 2000 and 3000 spinning reels. It is one of my favorite lines. I have recently purchased some 12lb for my Baitcasters.
  19. For that size reel and finesse style fishing I would go with 6lb P-Line Floroclear or 6lb Kastking Fluorokote line. That should be all you need for weightless plastics, small cranks and dropshots.
  20. Pros: They are fun to catch. They hit Crankbaits and topwaters like a freight train. They bite when nothing else is. Cons: Teeth. Slimy as hell. They are delicate, get them back in the water as soon as possible.
  21. Didn't know that!
  22. I own the 6'6" light version and I love it. Purchased it for Trout fishing but it has been handling Bass and Pickerel as well. It has become one of my favorite rods. If only they sold a one piece medium action version!!
  23. I love my new Denali AttaX 7' Medium spinning rod. Paired it with a size 2000 reel for Ned Rigs. I also love my Kastking Calamus 6,10' Light spinning rod. Paired it with a size 1000 reel for Trout fishing. Last week I started using it while pond fishing for Bass and it has been great!
  24. Funny but it was the exact opposite for me. I grew up fishing for Bass with live Nightcrawlers, Shiners and Crawfish exclusively. Back then I dabbled with lures here and there. It wasn't until I picked up a Senko that I started using artificial baits with any frequency. I have been using 100% artificial baits for the last 3 years.
  25. When it comes to Buzz Baits I like the Arbogast Buzz Plug. It was the Whopper Plopper before there was a Whopper Plopper. I haven't used the one you mentioned.
