  1. First question: The 8.1:1 is fine as you can always reel slower. Personally I would go with something in a 6.1:1 or 7.1:1 as I have a problem with not being able to slow my retrieve unless I am actively thinking about it. Second question: I recommend the Kastking Perigee II rod for $59.99. If you buy the 2 piece rod it is actually 3 pieces as they give you 2 tips. You can buy the one that has a Medium tip and a Medium heavy tip and it will cover all your bases. 2 piece rods are not a problem if you remember to check the connection from time to time to ensure they are not loose.
  2. Beautiful fish! I have a Snap Bean. No luck with it yet. I will have to give it another try.
  3. Looks great! How are you liking the rod? I took mine on vacation and it travelled well and fished great.
  4. A boat opens up a world that can not be accessed from shore. It will make you a better angler through the experience.
  5. Mishawaka Indiana and South Bend, right by Notre Dame and the Saint Joseph River. I was fishing in a place called Pinhook Park. We stayed there for a few days before heading to Indianapolis. There was some big Bass busting in that lake. If I only had my kayak...
  6. Same here. The most fish I caught in one day was 65 Smallmouth Bass. That was on a charter boat trip my Dad and I were on. Our guide really had us on the fish that day. I started keeping fishing logs (Fish type and numbers, bait used) once I got a smart phone. My goal each year is to catch 365 fish. Last year was the first year I missed that goal since I started logging catches. This year I am over halfway to my goal.
  7. A doctor can diagnose if you have clinical depression. He/she can get you treatment if needed.
  8. I agree. Kastking Florokote is another hybrid line to consider. I am not a big fan of leaders so most of my baitcasters have 12# Big Game or 12# KK Florokote on them.
  9. I was actually disappointed at the Pelican's pricing of their pedal drive. $1499 seems a bit much as the paddle version of the catch 120 is around $750, half the price. The pedal drive costs as much as the kayak?
  10. It can be effective from shore. My rule is the farther I cast out the longer I make my tag end to attach my weight. This keeps the bait in the strike zone better as the line will be at an angle as opposed to straight up and down like it is when dropped off the side in a boat.
  11. I was on vacation last week. We drove from NY to Indiana to see some sites and visit some relatives. Great trip. I was able to get some fishing time in. I can add Indiana to the list of states where I have caught fish.
  12. I am a big fan of a small net for landing kayak fish. Mine fits right under the bungees in the front of my kayak. Smaller fish I boat flip right into my sit inside kayak. Anything of size I grab the net with one hand and use my rod to guide the fish right into the net.
  13. I usually spend 3-5 hours on the water in my Yak. Good Beginner kayaks in your price range are: Perception Hook Angler Old Town Trip Angler Future Beach Trophy 126
  14. Worm: Yum Dinger jig trailer: Zoom Super Chunk Soft swimbait: Strike King Caffiene Shad Creature: Missile Baits Baby D Bomb beaver type bait: Berkley Havoc Pit Boss Topwater: Whopper Plopper 90
  15. I agree. I like purchasing new rods and reels as much as I like catching a fish. Hell, I can catch a fish on a stick with some thread, a bent paperclip makeshift hook and a dug up Nightcrawler. I have more fun catching one on a nice set-up.
  16. I agree. A cheap reel for every day fishing is going to end up costing you more when you have to replace it. The Lew's Tournament MB is a great reel and you can get a brand new one for $100 on Ebay.
  17. Happy 4th fishing with a classic lure. Caught these Bass on a Heddon Baby Torpedo. It was the only lure I could think of that reminded me of the fourth of July fireworks. Top water bite was on as the temps climbed to around 95 degrees. The top Smallmouth was wrapped in someone else's fishing line. I was able to cut it off before releasing him.
  18. The rumor is Lew's is going to win the "best of show" category again with their new combos, both spinning and baitcasting. The combos will be called the Lew's Mach Tie Dye. They will feature Winn Grip handles and knobs that are tie dyed rainbow colors. Lew's will have a free offer of a tie-dye t-shirt with each purchase.
  19. Hot as Hades this weekend. Saturday and Sunday I was out bank fishing from 7am until 11:30am before the heat really got insane. Both days I was sweating just standing with my rod in hand deadsticking a bait. No motion yet sweat was running down my face. Saturdays totals: 5 Rock Bass, 5 Smallmouth Bass including a nice one I got while fishing by a log. (pic below) Sundays totals: 1 Smallmouth Bass, 1 Rock Bass and 2 Bluegill.
  20. A saying my Dad has comes to mind when I read this. He says, "My money is perfect, no defects, not broken, the right size, shape and color. So should be the items I purchase with it." I am interested in seeing how this turns out. This is not a warranty issue it is a straight up defective product return. It should be replaced for free. If it was from Amazon, look into what they have to say as well. @Largemouth21 asked me if my Calamus is defective and I took a look at it. The second guide on mine is ever so slightly off. Not enough to bother me and it has not effected the rods performance at all.
  21. They match EBay as long as it is a brand new reel purchase, no used reels will be honored. I get get that they don’t stock everything but I use the in stock locate button to see what DSG near me carries the reel I am looking for. I have 3 DSG within 50 miles of me. One of them carries what I am looking for I agree, don’t get mad at the associates. My niece is one of them. A tip/trick is when they approach you is to tell them you have the card already and you love it. Pretending to be hard of hearing works as well. Especially if you have gray in your hair
  22. I feel the best option is to find a brick and mortar that has a price match guarantee. Like DSG. I can find the reel for a lower price online, walk into the store and walk out with the reel of my choice at that lower price. The advantage is I can actually look at and handle the actual product I am purchasing and not have to wait for it to be delivered.
  23. On my last fishing trip to the Hudson River I found a dirty diaper. Looks like someone changed their baby on a rock and left the diaper behind...
