  1. That’s a huge improvement over the way they sent my IRod Fiber rod. Never ordered from them again after the way the rod was bent in the broken shipping container that arrived.
  2. Budget of $80… Go to Walmart and get yourself the Abu Garcia Black Max for $46 That’s the best bang for the Buck reel out there. Very sturdy for a graphite frame reel and casts a mile once set properly. I have reels that cost way more (Lew’s Pro Ti, Shimano SLX DC and Abu Garcia Revo Sx) but the Black Max on a Vengeance rod always seems to be with me on the kayak. For $77 you can get the Abu Garcia Max Pro. Also in Walmart
  3. I have the floating waterproof scale. Still works fine. Thought it died on me but I had the battery in backwards ? I have the aluminum rack. Nice and sturdy, well made no tools required to assemble.
  4. I forgot to mention. Kastking Superpower is my go to braid. I also have several Kastking tools. Pliers, scales, knives, line spooling station, grippers, and scissors. All but the scissors are decent quality.
  5. I have several different rods of the same power and action both casting and spinning. If one breaks I don’t have the exact same rod to replace it but a back up nonetheless.
  6. Since I started kayak fishing I despise split grip rods that have the hook keeper on the split part of the handle. Hook and bait then goes into the rod holder not a great idea. Any rods that are like this I add a Fuji EZ hook keeper. Like my new St Croix Bass X spinning rod. My favorite type of hook keeper is the ones on my Abu Garcia Vengeance and Vendetta rods. It’s a Texas rig type holder, open loop type so a T-rigged plastic doesn’t have to be removed from the hook to hang it.
  7. It’s hard enough being a teenager especially in these times of social media, unrest and the pandemic. I can only imagine adding the situation with their mother. I am glad you were able to rescue them and give them the stability they so desperately need. I wish you all the best.
  8. Conditions were perfect for a popper this morning. Dead calm, 66 degrees overcast with a bit of fog. The popper of choice was the Storm Rattlin’ Chug Bug. Picked one up at Walmart yesterday for $6.99 Target species on the river was Smallmouth Bass. Target species acquired Also caught some Chain Pickerel. Including one over 2 and a half pounds that was a wild ride. Three peeling drag runs before I could land him.
  9. Thanks to all that serve and have served. My Nephew just re-enlisted a few days ago.
  10. I have a tube and use it. A dab on the index finger and thumb rubbed onto a bait. The stuff sticks to the bait and doesn’t need to be reapplied as often as other brands. Can’t say I ever reapplied it come to think of it. Does it work? I believe so. A trip with my father in law comes to mind. We were throwing tubes and Ned rigs. The bite dried up so I rubbed on some Megastrike. I caught a smallmouth on that cast. Two more for me before my father in law was asking for the tube…
  11. With the exception of Z-Man plastics I general change them out once they are beat up. A raggedy bait is not going to run true. With Z-Man baits I am more likely to lose it to a bad snag before it becomes to beat up to fish.
  12. It’s on my list. I like the reels slogan “Less line, more fish” I do like the shallow spool on this reel. I liked it so much I picked up an aftermarket shallow spool for my Abu Garcia Revo X and it has become a must carry every trip. loaded with some 8# Berkley Big Game and mounted on a medium rod I am able to cast some pretty light lures. No backlash I could not handle to date.
  13. I never thought to much about venomous snakes in NY. That was until I was visiting friends who rented an island campsite on Lake George. They told me be careful as a Timber Rattlesnake was seen on the island. I thought they were joking. A rattlesnake on a island in the middle of a lake? Yeah, they swim out to the island from shore. Needless to say it was a short visit. I was on the first boat outta there.
  14. It shouldn’t effect my fishing. I am blessed to live less than a 10 minute drive to the river. I could walk there if I really wanted to. Kayak fishing helps as well. Work on the other hand is 58 miles away. 116 miles round trip. I have a hybrid work from home, in office schedule. If I had to go 5 days a week into the office I would not be able to afford it.
  15. My recommendation is: Fenwick Eagle 6’6” Med Lt Fast spinning rod $69.95 Abu Garcia Elite Max EMAXSP20 spinning reel $69.98
  16. 2 for $25 “sale” at DSG for these baits. Thinking of getting the “Werkbait” I have a friend that works there and gets a 30% discount.
  17. I broke out my Abu Garcia Revo X with the aftermarket shallow spool paired with a Vendetta rod this weekend. Pitching a TRD TicklerZ Texas rigged on a 1/0 worm hook and 1/8 oz tungsten bullet weight. Drove the pickerel nuts
  18. My favorites change from year to year. This year my favorites are: Baitcaster = Shimano SLX DC Spinning = Abu Garcia Zata 20
  19. I contracted Covid 2 weeks ago. An irresponsible person came to work sick and received their test results while at work. Shut the whole office down for cleaning…didn’t work. luckily my symptoms were mild. Headache, fever, dry throat, upset stomach. My wife and son did not get it as I quarantined in another part of the house. I knew I would get it sooner or later my hope was that it would have been during the winter so I missed no fishing time. Of course the days I were recovering were some of the nicest weather we have had in these parts in a long time.
  20. I prefer other brands over Mepps. My favorite in-line spinner for Bass is the Blue Fox Vibrax. Snap swivels are a must when using these lures.
  21. Berkley Big Game is my go to mono. I use #10 most of the time. I also like Vicious Fishing Ultimate Mono. Smaller line diameter than most mono for the #test rating. It has not let me down yet.
  22. Ditto. However I usually carry 4, the 4th being a finesse combo. I call it the skunk beater.
  23. $9.95 brand new rod. Me thinks thou protest too much.
  24. The Berkley Juke jerkbait has been my most productive bait this week. Caught another fat prespawn Largemouth. It had another fish down it’s throat. And my first Smallmouth of the year on the river.
  25. My Dad is in his 80’s and truly a man born out of time. He was catch and release before it was cool. I have a childhood memory where I caught a Bass and wanted to keep it. He looked at me sideways and said “Whatcha gonna do with it?” I said “I dunno” He said toss it back so it can live. I did and have been doing so since.
