  1. this sucks. the only reasonable solution to ease your pain is to take each combo that was lost and upgrade each rod and reel you know what they say, the best way to get over someone is to get under someone else
  2. I use the oil currently made by Abu Garcia as a substitute for the bantam oil that used to come with the reels as I can get it at my local tackle shop. it seems fine and I don't notice any difference. and it comes in a much bigger bottle. I use it on both my shimano baitcasters and spinning reels. its this one:
  3. I love Sufix Siege mono its by far the best I've ever used but its not available everywhere
  4. What line are you using? I've been using Sufix Siege in 12 pound test on my baitcaster for years now, and its amazing. super strong and casts like a dream. as others have said, sounds like you just need to tighten your spool tension knob a bit. that should stop the loose loops
  5. for great distance, definitely go with a 7'5 or 7'6 rod. I have been upgrading all my rods over the last few years to this length and I notice a big difference in casting distance over 6'6 and 7' rods. I use 12 pound mono (Sufix Siege) on my 7'6 MH baitcasting setup
  6. for baitcasters I have a curado 200i which I believe came out in 2015 and its amazing. I don't really understand all the DC hype these days. Seems like every reel that comes out from Shimano is DC. Is it mainly for beginners to baitcasting? I think the whine would drive me insane lol
  7. I have heard good things about the loomis GCX lite rods, but I've never handled one. they do make a 7 foot fast action 1 piece UL rod which is my favorite configuration for an UL rod. they do very well with a 1000 size shimano spinner and 4 pound mono Long and fast. no little 5'6 UL rods for me
  8. the Loomis trout rods are amazing, although they are discontinued except for one GLX model. I have the TSR 791 and its amazing. a true fast action UL rod.
  9. i have one of the loomis mbr rods (imx pro MBR 903C) which is a 7'6 MH fast action rod and it does just about everything well. I use 12 pound test sufix siege on my curado 200i on it and it casts a mile. I agree with those above that said drop down to 12 pound test. its still very strong and casts great.
  10. Same although I started using Loomis in 99. I have bought 2 imx pro rods in the last two years and they are both incredible. Shimano has done very well to keep Loomis great. That in itself is a rarity after buyouts etc.
  11. if you are looking for longer casts, can you go even longer? Over the past several years I have made the switch to 7'5 and 7'6 casting and spinning rods and I notice a big difference in casting distance over the 6'6 and 7 foot rods.
  12. what's the line and lure rating on a 'light medium heavy' rod like that?
  13. is that little nub of a trigger comfortable?
  14. Ironically, TackleWarehouse used to have THE BEST rod website online. easy to understand and great pics of the models. Now its terrible... they really dropped the ball big time with that.
  15. my curado 200i PG what a great reel
  16. So, is Kistler's pricing tactic of always showing a massive price for a rod and then saying 'its what we would have sold them at had we sold to a big store but you get it at this way lower price" legit? ie have his rods ever actually been listed anywhere at the giant price? been looking into his rods and every web site including his own lists this super high price beside every model and then real price is always way lower. if they have never sold at the high price, isn't this a little deceptive? saying his customers are getting a deal when the rods were always the lower price to begin with? I'm confused??
  17. the longer one. I throw swimbaits on an 8 foot MH St. Croix Musky rod with a tranx 400A and 20 pound Sufix Siege Mono. 8 foot rods are great for big baits
  18. Sufix Siege mono in smoke green is the best I have ever used. I use 6 pound on my spinning rig (1000 size nasci) and 12 on my baitcasting rig (200 size curado i)
  19. So I have to ask, are you fishing for giant pike with that setup? If you don't want to use braid, you can use a good quality 20 pound mono like Suffix Siege. I use this on my tranx 400 on my MH musky rod (rated for up to 3oz lures) and it casts lures like big swimbaits a mile.
  20. I still love spinning gear for basically anything 1/4 oz and under (say up to a #3 Mepps spinner which is one of my favorite all time lures) but for everything heavier I use baitcasting
  21. I know and I know some people that actually WANT Dildeau to get back in...
  22. I know its bad here. Everything is through the roof and we are taxed to death on top of it all..'
  23. I just looked at my local store and Exprides are $440 and Avids are $310 Canadian
