  1. I enjoy fishing swimbaits and a couple of lakes I fish are perfect for this technique. The problem is there aren't a lot of heavy jigheads that have a small enough hook to rig a smaller swimbait (around 3" long). I have been thinking about getting into jig making and have been looking into my jighead options. Are there any 1/2 oz to 3/4 oz jighead molds that will allow for a shorter shank hook to rig smaller swimbaits? A lot of these molds recommend certain hooks and hook sizes. What would happen if I use a smaller hook sizes than what's recommended?
  2. I was going to say what fly fisher said. Putting a motor on one side of the kayak is like paddling exclusively on one side. You need to have the motor pushing each side of the kayak equally. With a side mounted motor you're pushing the side of the kayak it is mounted on quicker than the other which makes you go in circles.
  3. Let me make sure I understand your setup correctly, you connected the trolling motor to the side of the kayak, and not the rear in the vertical centerline of the kayak?
  4. I just got a second 7.5:1 for Christmas. I love the reel. Use it for all around stuff. Everything from texas rigs to froggin. Great reel. How long have you had it and have you taken it apart to clean it and lube it up in that time?
  5. My dad and I both have rainsuits. Since there was cold weather + wind + rain making it feel even colder we decided to not go out during the rain. Plus, there were other non-fishermen on the trip that we needed to keep busy as well. I would have definitely given it a shot in the rain, and did from shore, but my dad (who owns the boat) preferred to wait until the rain stopped. I felt we did pretty well considering the conditions. Had we had the same conditions at home we probably would have been skunked or caught very few. I was just curious as to what people turn to since that situation will inevitably happen again.
  6. So as everyone knows, if you're on a fishing vacation, a low pressure system must go through raining out most of one day of the trip. This just happened to my dad and I. A low pressure system came through, preventing us from going out in the boat for an evening and most of the next day. The scenario is this: When presented with a low pressure system, once the rain stops of course, what techniques do you go to? Where do you go to find the fish? We went out after the rain in windy, chilly weather and tried to find the fish. We ended up catching a lot of 1-2 pound bass fishing shallow weeds with 4 inch swimbaits. I felt that we would struggle to get bites and would need to fish slow, but the swimbait on a constant retrieve in shallow weeds produced numbers.
  7. @scaleface I've been waiting for the right time to use my buzzbait. The lake I fish from shore has too many weeds on the surface so I prefer a hollowbody frog. Can't wait for vacation this August. Will be hitting the topwater hard.
  8. My dad had this same problem. UPS broke two rods before the rod company decided to overnight the third one in a PVC tube. Arrived the day before our summer vacation. Idk if I can trust having rods shipped to me after that.
  9. @Will Wetline I haven't had a chance to use my spook yet. Can't wait to try it out. Nice fish!
  10. My dad and I hit the local over-pressured public lake in the evening on Saturday during some rain since the crowds would be all gone. I primarily fished a hollow-body frog and my dad fished a weightless t-rigged senko. It was a chilly evening, but the fish were still hitting topwater. I caught a few on the frog (missed a few more) and was having a blast. Had a one boil on my frog and told my dad to cast in there with his senko. Sure enough he hooked up and it was a nice solid bass in the 18-inch range. Ended up losing the biggest one of the night right before it got too dark for us to see. Wish I could get out more during the week to fish topwater, such a rush.
  11. Any measurement can get broken down into any amount of increments you desire. It just so happens that people long ago decided to make the ounce 1/16 of a pound. Personally, i think it makes more logical sense to break things down into tenths or hundredths as opposed to 16ths.
  12. Aren't huddlestons soft swimbaits, not hard?
  13. Just picked up this tournament MB last night at gander, 20% off. Used it this morning and LOVED it. Took no time at all to get it dialed in.
  14. You can make it work if you're unable to purchase a setup geared more for frog fishing! You don't need a mono leader for frog fishing, straight braid will be fine.
  15. Caught this 19.5 inch, 4.2 pound largie on beautiful Lake Geneva (WI) on Monday.
