  1. Tatula 7'2 HF, Tatula CT 8:1, 50 lb powerpro.
  2. I prefer fast action for squarebills and lipless. I think the faster action rebounds better when you run your lure into stuff and rip it through grass.
  3. I own two of each. So I'll toss my opinion out there, remember this is a personal opinion. The lews is smaller, and is a great casting reel. The CT it a bit bigger but it feels higher quality. Both reels will bomb casts, I think the lews is a better caster. I prefer the brakes on the CT. I actually prefer magforce Z to any other braking system I've tried. The TWing system on the Daiwa excels at flipping. If someone asked me which one to buy, I'd say the Daiwa, mainly because of the braking system, but I wouldn't tell someone no or try to talk them out of a tournament MB. Cliff notes: MB is smaller, and has dual braking if that is your thing. Better caster. Mine have ran flawless. CT feels better put together and I prefer the magforce Z braking system. I find the TWing system excels at flipping. Mine have ran flawless.
  4. Where are they available at? If anyone here has some they don't want please let me know!
  5. I played with an SLX at academy and thought it felt bad for $100. The bps carbonlite and academy ethos both felt much better for $100. I'd take a $40 daiwa Aird X over the SLX rods as well.
  6. Take a pair of pliers and bend the hooks out and back just a little bit to open them up a bit. Dont go too much or you'll start getting hung up.
  7. Been looking for a med/fast rod to cast lighter stuff. This ones rated down to 1/8 where most are 1/4. Anyone tried the browser line?
  8. Berkley chigger craw has by far been my best producing craw for years.
  9. Tackle Advisor mentioned this in a review he did. He didn't remember if he had to add or remove a shim though.
  10. Start with the tournament MB or tournament pro.
  11. I have a tatula ct, tatula sv, lews tournament mb and a lews lfs. The tatula ct is my jigging and frogging reel. The sv does a little bit of everything. The lfs is my oldest real and has been my reliable workhorse and has at one time done about every duty you can think of from weightless flukes to throwing 1.5 oz swimbaits. The tournament mb is new to me and it just feels like a more refined, more controlled lfs and its very very small. Up until about last year nothing could touch the lfs for its price. And even at $100 if someone asked if they should buy one I sure as heck wouldn't tell them no.
  12. I throw mags, the 168, 68 hudd, and boom boom shad on an academy ethos heavy. Really any jig or frog rod should be fine for the waver and mag.
  13. So the time has come to pass down my spinning rig to my son and upgrade myself. I'm passing down my Pflueger president and a 7ft ML/XF Daiwa Laguna to my 4 yr old. Last weekend we went out and he outfished me on it throwing texas rigs! It's been a while since I've looked at good old egg beater reels and want to get myself something nice. I mostly use it for ned rigs, dropshots and little jerkbaits. I throw everything else on casting gear. Rod/reel budget is $350ish and I don't mind going used if anyone has anything they want to part with. What would you guys suggest? I'm a big Daiwa fan, and am unfamiliar with any of Shimanos offerings other than the Stradic.
  14. I love fishing with my 4 yr old...MOST of the time. It really goes from an awesome experience to frustration. He's fishing texas rigs on spinning gear but this last trip out he really wants a daddy rod, baitcaster. Im really really not excited about that haha. I may buy him an slx dc to cut down on backlashes.
  15. The Lews Tournament MB is a small reel that is reliable and smooth and doesn't break the bank.
  16. Loooove academy! They don't carry many high end reels, but they have good bait and rod selections. I find their prices are also the best for a retail shop. I absolutely love the h20 hard baits and terminal tackle.
  17. Wow these things look cool.
  18. I want to up my fluke game as I've never really fished them. I'm guessing a medium/fast rod and a shallow spool reel would be optimal? I was thinking a curado 70 would work well for this, am I wrong? Also open to suggestions on rods under $150 or so. Anyone tried a 7' M/F Savage Browser?
  19. Kids who want fancy reel whine for a cheaper price.
  20. I love a happy ending!
  21. Black and Blue poppin pad crasher. No idea on weight, but it was almost 29 inches.
  22. Things have changed boys. All of a sudden I don't need one!
  23. Where can I buy phoney frogs?!?!?! I must have right now!
  24. I use a super super cheap Daiwa Laguna 8' Med Light XFast and I love it. It was like $15 on clearance at Academy. Both rods you listed will work great.
  25. I have the 7'2 Heavy Fast and it is by far the best rod I've ever thrown. Light, plenty of backbone and an AMAZING tip. I do everything with it from throw frogs, to football jigs, to 1/4oz texas rig worms. Mines paired with a Tatula CT in the 7 ratio. Best setup I've ever owned. I picked mine up at academy around last xmas for $60. If they would have had other models I would have bought them. I'll check back this year and I'd grab another of the same model to throw other stuff on.
