  1. No... see you're supposed to take the length AND girth of the fish . That will give you a good ESTIMATE of the weight. There is no way we can estimate the girth of your fish. I caught weighed and measured a 24" largemouth with a girth just shy of 16 inches. this year. My scale said 8.2lbs. the fish weight estimation calculator told me the fish should be 8.75lbs being 24" long with a 15.5 inch girth . Is my scale a half pound off ? No.. but the estimation tool is fairly close.. not ultimate but it would keep you from thinking a thick 4 lber was a 6lber.
  2. I think it could use half a cup of sweet corn.
  3. @Bluebasser86 I was going to ask you if you've tried the thug. I like them too. I lost my favorite one to a submerged tree but I'll be getting another one by next season. Any favorite colors ? I like the yellow perch, fire tiger, and original silver. Also they have a "live" river shad that has been killer for me especially with the shad rap. .. someone above mentioned the jointed shad rap.i have a discontinued color that used to be great for me before I retired it. "Hot perch" which is the same pattern as their current perch but has red orange and black with a hint of yellow. I wish they still made it.
  4. @Bluebasser86 if I had more than one new crank bait break on me with a fish on it I would be done with that entire company. So you made it longer than I would. That's crazy to me.. I've been using em for years without this issue. I've seen it brought up many times and for some reason it digs at me. Ha-ha. Because I love this company and they have always produced for me and ive never had these problems. Every model of rapala I've ever tried I've caught fish on. I could name them but you'd get bored with such a long list.
  5. For sensitivity, and strength , lack of stretch. Use braid!!!!!! The only things that FC has on braid are that it sinks. And maybe less visibility depending on conditions IMO. But when you catch bass on spinner baits with heavy metal wires it makes me think less about how much the line visibility comes into play.
  6. I love rapala. All of their lures, they are my favorite company. The DT series are way nice. Been using them for years . I've caught many fish on them and never had one pull apart, ever. I've seen people break them because they slap them on the water to get weeds off and bang them deliberately on docks. Its BALSA . They are beautiful cranks. And the action is a proven fish catcher. And at 6-8 dollars they are hard to beat. When lucky craft and megabass want 15-20 dollars a crank. You can get a DT for three different depths. Do you own any other rapala ? Pick up just one DT. In your favorite and most successful color. nd I think you'll end up buying another one. I know I did.
  7. Do you have a driver's license ? I wouldn't want to limit myself to a 1 acre pond all year.. how do you get around coe lake. ?
  8. Use braid. With a fluorocarbon leader .
  9. Jitterbug. Pop-r. Buzzbait. And my favorite. Rapala original floater.
  10. Do you fish the pond regularly? Is this the main place you fish ?
  11. One that mimics the forage. I'd try grey and white. And then one that resembles a bluegill in color. I've tried larger senkos and never had much luck. Various retrieves. I like to hover it just over the bottom first. And then I like to hop it with a yo - yo retrieve. Before you give up on it try burning it just under the surface. Try the jig and rage chunk. It will catch year round. And is fairly weedless . Ribbon tail worms are awesome. I like culprit red shad and tequila (it's a purple/almost black laminate) Post here if you get her !!
  12. Where abouts in ohio ?? I fish ohio as well. And frequent many ponds. I've still caught on senkos and dt hula grubs. Have you already caught the big bass in this specific pond this year ? There is a pond I hooked and landed a 24" largemouth twice this year about a month apart(around June) I have visited the pond again about 5 times since then including once yesterday. And havent seen her. But this particular pond is almost 3 times the size of the pond you're talking about. Timing is the most key. I'd get out there not really bright and early, but as soon as it starts to warm up they will be closer to the shallows soaking up that sun and chasing prey. I'd say the mornings would be easier for you to locate the fish than it would be at night. The bass can become conditioned to your lures. So I would try and use something that you haven't much this summer. Whether that's a jerkbait/spinnerbaits/fluke/ I suggest a soft bodied paddle tail swimbait if you haven't tried yet. If you were to bring me to this pond. I would try these baits. Senko 5" - wacky and t rigged weightless Dt hula grub- weightless Jig with a rage chunk. Green pumpkin and brown. Rapala x-rap 07- probably olive/white and then a black/orange Keitech fat impact on a keel weight hook Pop-r And at night a jitterbug. Most colors and retrieve techniques would depend on conditions.
  13. I've caught big crappie on the bubblegum super fluke.
  14. I had some of these. And couldn't buy a bite. Fishing a lake that the primary forage was bluegill . I actually gave them away.
  15. How are you so sure?
  16. 10lb is possible in a 6 acre pond for sure. I don't know monster crappie and monster bass can happen in a 6 acre pond. Unless it's stocked with a forage package annually . Yea I need more than a hug.
  17. not sure what you're getting at. I don't see anybody else chiming in. Except for someone with nothing better to do than clown off.
  18. Lol are you referring to the dumbbell ? He's not fishing a big windy lake. Honestly it's just a big pond. My 10-15 lb anchor does great. Like I said it will push you around but it won't drag you around in this scenario. I think the dumbbell could work with my raft. Depending on the bottom . Which im assuming is muck. So. It would definitely work .
  19. Nice and fat tho. You should at least carry a tape. The length and girth formula can be fairly accurate.
  20. Good stuff bud !
  21. Gotta love the friends with a sure tell
  22. No idea about the lake. But I fish ohio. I've been doing well with senkos (weightless), shad raps, hula grubs (weightless) and trick worms on a shaky head, and a skitter walk (spook ). I'd still target cover. And drop offs. Report back here ! I'm interested in your results. Good luck brother.
  23. Interesting ^ only thing of gulp I use is the powerbait crappie nibbles. I'll have to try those .
