  1. The scents I have tried... never seemed so 'magic'... I think most scents just make the target fish hold on longer, and mask your scent from rigging.. but honestly have no idea what the fish think. It's hard to accurately say that it was for sure the scent because of all the variables that come with fishing. Location of the bait is most key IMO. But if I was going to catch a bass like that Everytime I go, I'd be glad to use some scent. Good luck and nice fish.
  2. It's one technique that doesn't fail. Althought it is considered "unsportsmanlike/cheating " by some.. using live gills is what caught the "tied" world record in japan. and I've used it to catch several big bass (5+) . But His point was that bluegill swimbaits are best used during the spawn. Your story backs his theory. I was simply stating that if a bass is presented with a crippled gill in august (not the spawn in the north) it's dinner time I promise.
  3. But if you were to free line a bluegill it WILL get torn up very quickly if its around a bass that can take it. Bass eat bluegill all season. This is not my opinion it's fact.
  4. I like spinning tackle for finesse plastics. Always.
  5. Link?
  6. Yea I usually use them with braid... on a spinning rod. I just caught a bunch of slack for this on another thread but it works for me.. id say the biggest bass I caught on a shad rap is 4-5lbs. You were targeting musky though ? Or just anything that would hit ? It looks like a 07 to me am I wrong ? All of rapalas products man.. seriously. Best value I've found.
  7. Lol yea I don't see any other reason !!
  8. I'm curious how big stripers are accidentally released..
  9. Why did you quote chartreuse lol ?
  10. Regardless of what's "right" in most anglers eyes.. if I got the chance to fish Mexico I'm sure it'll only be once.. if I was there for a week I'd try all sorts of things and wouldn't hardly stop fishing . If by the last 2 days I haven't hooked into a monster bass. Id be nose hooking one of those tilapia. And get me a Mexican hawg.
  11. What type of line do you use with that particular shad rap size ?
  12. I'm not in a position to have a bunch of rods and such. I've been using braid for cranks and jerkbaits for just shy of a decade . You all have your prefernces of what you think is best and why you think so.. I'm happy for you.
  13. Ok I never said that I've never had my line tangle around the rod tip. i said I've never casted off a jerkbait because of it and I almost exclusively use braid . Sometimes with a floro leader for weightless plastics but that's irrelevant. For jerkbaits I use just braid. And have never had this happen. I've used braid at 4, 6, 8, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 60. I mainly use 10-15 for bass fishing. Depends on what im doin Ill vary line weight. It's always hard for me to get my lure to come off my line with a good Palomar knot. If line does wrap around my pole and I cast, it usually just gets more tangled and I have a quick scare that I damaged a guide. But usually all is well because 80 % of the time you can pull on any knot with braid and it slips back to itself. And it's back to fishin
  14. Have those same grubs in my box.I wish there were bass around me that big. my biggest bass came off something much different. my biggest isn't even half of this ones weight. I think sometimes about chasing a different species in ohio. I just can't get away from chasing the bass. What's the length ?
  15. I wouldnt be that shocked ! Depending on the gear you were using ... 9lbs could feel like a monster. Do you have musky hit that shad rap ?
  16. I like the sensitivity of braid.. and the added casting distance I get with it when using spinning reels. I feel braid is the strongest of all lines I've ever tried and I enjoy the thin diameter of 15lb test braid. This happening was operator error.. possibly the reel. Not the line I'm positive.
  17. Even if your scale was broken man there is a BIG difference in 8 to 2lbs. In all reality there's a big difference from 3 to 4. The fact that he said he caught a fish that big and thought it weighed 2lbs is more than a little old. I know you're going to say that he's a novice and just didn't know but it's just not adding up to me.. An 8lb bass will be anywhere from 23-27 inches (most likely ) depending on its girth.
  18. I've been using braid for years and have never had this happen. I don't think the braid is to blame.
  19. I use straight 15lb braid for jerkbaits. And have never once casted a lure off with it. I think your knot is in question.. I second whomever mentioned the spinning rod.
  20. Given the weather. I'd say your best opportunity is probably at the warmest part of the day.
  21. I bought an ardent rod and reel spinning combo at Walmart. The rod broke in 2 seasons. The reel is on its 4th.
  22. I think people like you are refreshing. And a good addition to this site for sure. Most new people I see come in post a couple videos and then that's it. I look forward to seeing what else you post. Have a good weekend.
  23. I didn't say they were bad.. just said they aren't so great. I wasn't that impressed by the hooks. But usually when a bass bites something with 6 points I usually am able to bring it In.. All in all bomber and rapala are the only cranks I use. I like the VMC hooks alot. And sometimes switch and put a sureset model on some of my shallow bomber cranks. I know some people don't like them. But for me, it's not about what other people like.
  24. What do you think about ardent reels ?
  25. So since you thought it was 50 you should get two (; Or is that not exactly what you are looking for ?!!!
