  1. Baitfish imitators! They're predators like bass. And will eat any fish that it can choke. This is why they are not a good mix with bass in small ponds. You've been given alot of good suggestions.
  2. What do you bring exactly? And because you're in decent shape apparently ! Ha-ha
  3. Pit boss is a solid, cheap bait for sure. I got packs of em for 2.50 one time at DSG.
  4. Even though the suggestion above me is a sponsor. It's true. Lol. That structure bug is a beast. And usually get several fish per bait. Reaction innovations sweet beaver is also nice.
  5. I also have a BIG guide series tackle box, and a full size backpack packed to the brim . but when shore fishing I cycle what I plan on using into the small bag and I have good success this way
  6. No carp this year? Cool thread..
  7. There are spots all over ohio to fish. I can give you some suggestions if you personal message me. This site is awesome.
  8. -Lipless crank. Is what I'd go for. And I'd try three retrieves before I gave up. A simple straight retrieve, a "yo-yo" all through the water column. And a rip and pause off the bottom. As in let it sink and then rip it off the bottom. If you feel debris on the lure you usually just need a good "snap" to shake it loose. A jig. I'd try compact and natural colors... slow hopped , and shake that slack ! I'd also try a nice spoon.. often overlooked and almost always a producer on numerous species.. I'd definitely show those fountains some attention. I guarantee they hold fish.
  9. Your personal best gulped it on the way down...
  10. Sadly. Nothing can replace the fat rap for me lol. Rapala and bomber are my favorite. The model A is killer. But slightly different action and profile than the fat rap.
  11. My thoughts are you should get them regardless?
  12. You don't NEED large baits to catch large bass...you're just targeting large bass when you do so.. I caught my personal best on a 4inch popper and it was 24" and just over 8lbs.. there's a guy on here that caught a 12-13 lb bass on a 4inch senko. Also a 19lb bass was caught in California recently on a double tail hula grub on a football jig. all these are baits that a 1-2 lb bass could take easily. Good luck on your swimbait making though ! No doubt using them is fun..
  13. I just tried the search bar and couldn't find it either... if you go back years in the discussions it is all over the place.. I didn't mean for it to sound like he shouldn't ask ?? I didn't tell him to use the search before he posted. I said it was funny how this has been discussed for the past 9 years.. I find myself on the older pages alot. Once you get to see some of the regulars who post now it's cool to see how their preferences change.
  14. We do know it's FebRuary right ?
  15. Yea players like Odell Beckham (and many others) who have been recorded making obvious cheap shots after the play are bad for the game ! Those players should not be allowed to continue in the league . I don't think penalties are harsh enough for those types of actions. But the hard hits that happen because 2 players crossed paths going all out should not be penalized. Players should be protected from intentional dirty hits but nobody can argue that some of the calls are more than questionable.
  16. Let me get em. Ha-ha
  17. Bud I picked up a Shakespeare "tiger" spinning rod and reel combo at walmart in a discount section for 17.99!!! I believe the reel only has one bearing.. but how I fish for catfish it does just fine. It's a bigger rod and reel and it was exactly what I was looking for.. I spooled it with 30lb braid and have landed 2 catfish on it between 25-28" . Got them in no problem and I liked it so much I went and bought another one. I'm not sure how long they'll last but for the price dude it could not be beat! The rod is nice and stout and i couldn't be more happy with the purchase.
  18. Weightless is probably my most effective way fishing those 4" dt hula grubs Tom mentioned above.
  19. Funny that you say that !! One time while bass fishing (I was on the shore ) I had 2 channel cats come in real shallow and they were Working over the area real good.. I don't know much about their behavior but I do know they were ultra aggressive at this moment. I grabbed my jar of powerbait and caught a small bluegill (tips I gathered rom soflabasser, bluebasser86,and gordo in another thread I started called channel catfish strategy) and I rigged it up on my top water rod. I tried casting it out and reeling it in slowly but it got no action. So I sliced it and let it sit on the bottom where I saw it last.. and went back to bass fishing. About 10 minutes later I seen my line tighten and I missed the fish. So I put a bobber on, and right after I recast the catfish came up and nailed the bobber in about 8-10FOW. Blew my mind because I've always been told they were bottom feeders... I've never caught one top water but that experience alone tells me it can be done !
  20. I've caught big channel cats (27" +) on #5mepps .
  21. Yea man I agree. If we aren't careful it's going to turn into "Sunday night two hand touch"
  22. Not only this but you don't need that much with you especially bank fishing. When stuck on shore I carry a small pack that holds 3 Small planos and a few bags of plastics. One is for terminal tackle and jigs. One is cranks/jerkbaits, and the other is topwater and spinners . The more time I spend fishing than switching the more bass I catch ! I got this pack at Walmart for ten dollars and it's made for fishing. It has a front pouch that I keep scissors, and multi tool in. And two side pouches that I keep scent and some bobbers and a jar of powerbait. Sometimes I'll bring a stout rod and catch some bluegill and use those for bait. See if I can catch a catfish.
  23. I couldn't think of a better way to spend my day. Nice job man.
  24. About 15-20 times. One time it was 4 flights in a week because of layovers. And I got stuck in Chicago o'hare by myself because of a blizzard. They had us on the plane and we never hit the run way.. they had to come and spray "de-icer" all over and it was real colorful like certain carwashes. Then they had us exit and wait for an hour and we switched planes. I was a little nervous flying that day. Nothing is a guarantee. If you googled a list of plane accidents some are mechanical and some are as simple as a bird in an engine. There are statistics about how many go down like 1-1200 (not the real number but it's an example) sometimes it's necessary. I couldn't imagine going down in a plane.
  25. What's the record for largemouth in your area ?
