  1. No offense but if it was 7lbs it was most likely female. like overwhelming odds. And yes.. the ohio state record of 13lbs was taken from a pond. Good luck growing a 20+lber. Genetics also play a roll. A 6 foot man and 5 foot woman don't typically have a 6'8" son if you catch my drift
  2. Well he used a live bluegill to get the one he showed everyone. Have you ever used bluegill for bait ? If you know where the bass is , it's very easy. The hard part is finding it ! Not catching it (when you're talking about the technique he uses.)
  3. Ya beat me to it. I just thought it was funny we had a comment the exact same . That's when you know its true. Ha-ha
  4. Ha-ha. I post mine and yours slides in right above it. Saying "some days they just don't want a jerkbait " . @IndianaFinesse
  5. People swear they're for cold water applications. But I catch bass on jerkbaits year round. Typically slower retrieve in late fall/early spring, and faster spring through early fall. My favorite is to snap-snap-snap straight down . It gives the x-rap a nice roll when it comes to a rest. You must figure the fish out every day. There is no golden retrieve. I recommend really getting comfortable with a few of your favorites that way you can visualize what they are doing under water. Sometimes they don't want a jerkbait ! Don't force the issue..
  6. How do you know I'm a big rapala fan lol. I am. More than you know.
  7. Mine is semi -recent. Less than a decade. it's the jointed shad rap on the right.. in "hot perch"
  8. Yea man husky jerk . And x rap.
  9. To further elaborate why I was so bothered. This was a private farm pond. Just under 3 acres. I have special access to it because I did some favors for a neighbor (I put up a wire fence and helped him move ) And he granted me permission to fish this place as I please. Nobody fishes it. His brother built it, stocked it. And then passed away. It is about 15 years old (the pond) and the first season I fished it i had 25+ fish days easily. Some nice ones too. I have put many hours using a seine* in the creek and dumping creek chubs and crawfish into the pond. I take care of the place when the man is out of town. It's like it's my pond.. (even though it isn't). And when he caught that fish I knew it was the queen. And the way he treated it and acted about it after was more than enough for me to not take him fishing again.. btw she lived ? idk how because it felt like she was out of water for an eternity. I caught her this year and she was 24" and 8.2 lbs. I don't know how long she has left but I hope to see her next spring.
  10. Lol no.. I like ya A -jay but that's not how it went or how I felt at all.
  11. I only help those who are deserving. And I promise everybody is not deserving. . Here is an example. About 5 years ago is when I came upon the use of the senko.. well I had a few fishing holes and brought a buddy with me on the regular.. on one particular summer day we were using the same things hula grubs, crank baits, frogs, t rigged worms... and not catching anything. Well I had read about the wacky senko and decided to try it in a last minute effort. I started catching every cast.. I caught about 10+ bass before I started to feel guilty about having fun. So I helped him out. Gave him the hook. And the senkos... long story short he caught a bass that was 23" and easily 6-7 but probably 7+ (very impressive bass for ohio) He took off running with the bass back to the truck to take pictures and it was over 75 yards away.. had it out of the water for 10 minutes easy. I was so pis.sed I could have strangled him. To make matters worse he posted pictures on Facebook and showed everyone at the bar about how he caught this huge bass like he was some master angler and told em all how he did it. i never took him fishing again. Punk. Tom he was upset cuz someone he fished with was putting him down ? Who in their right mind wouldn't be bothered by that. Nobody needs that.. I agree you should have fun , even if that means fishing by yourself.
  12. I second the spinner. I like Mepps black fury. They have yellow/green/pink/orange. Yellow and orange are where it's at. I caught a big channel cat on a #5 silver blade white skirt though.
  13. How do you store your plastics ?
  14. Have em get gift cards.. this might sound lame and maybe not a big surprise.. but they'll be able to get things they want.
  15. not unless you wanna go ice fishin?
  16. So some are saying more salt sinks slower... some are saying no salt sinks slower. And some are saying there is absolutely no difference other than companies want you to buy extra of the same color. I appreciate the rigging tips and success stories. That's all I was looking for.
  17. So there IS a difference. Despite what @Team9nine thinks.. that it's only out there so that I will buy them all. So "I can catch fish too" ha-ha. Like I'm not catching fish A slightly slower sink rate would definitely make a difference some days.. just ask a serious jig fisherman
  18. My yak has a bungee and a clip on both sides where I can easily hang the paddle up on the side with one hand. Its pretty B.A! But a rod leash is a really good idea.. thanks. I'm always worried about tipping and losing my tackle so I try and bring less.. how much does everyone usually bring ?
  19. I feel like his kayak is heavy ! Ha-ha. Mine can't be more than 75lbs. I can pick it up and put it in the back of a full size pick up .
  20. They are both good. Any opinions you get are just that. Opinions. I like lun.ker hunt and zoom's horny toad.
  21. It's thir.... teen. They are banned from the site because they flooded the forums with advertising
  22. Inline spinners are effective on all species nearly year round. I've personally caught. Bass, crappie, bluegill, pike, and a big channel cat on mepps inline spinners. I always pull one out on a rough day Just so I can fight somethin @IndianaFinesse Rebel crawfish, jigs both rubber and hair , tubes, stick worms, all nail smallmouth consistently. And I almost forgot the most simple of all.. a curly tail grub on a jig head. You can go as big and small as needed and almost impossible to fish wrong.. this technique has caught big smallmouth for decades. And continues to do so.. Try and find a worm like bait with alot of little appendages. Hellgrammite are a favorite snack of river smallies especially.
  23. I have a braid that sinks... it's nice. I like braid all the time as well, probably because I'm usually using spinning tackle. Sometimes with a floro leader for weightless plastics.
  24. Yea for example when I use jerkbaits I can't do my normal "snap-snap-snap" straight down like I do when I'm standing up. its a blast though. I have a 14ft extra wide Jon boat, and an inflatable boat.. but I usually fish alone . So the kayak is just seeming to be a great choice. A good workout too . And I like the stealth aspect of it.
  25. Thank you. What depth finder do you have now ? And what can it do ? I think I just need depth and temperature but it would be pretty sweet to show objects and fish.. No luck with the hardbaits huh.. that's crazy.. I have extreme success with hardbaits..and the last few years have got lunker of the year for me (like biggest bass I caught that year not some contest lol) You said wacky and drop shot.. you don't like the senko (or whatever stick bait you use) weightless texas ?
