3-4 lb largemouth is usually between 18-21" . With a nice mouth on it. You should have got the hook out. I never take no for an answer.
I have never left a hook in a bass's mouth, ever. Unless you have hands like Shaquille oneal you could have got your hand on that frog. If the bass was as big as you said it was.
Tough love from me. I'd have tore it out at all costs and then tried to revive it. If it dies then I'd take it with me but I'll be (you know what) before I leave a nice bass with a frog in it's mouth.
I firmly believe it's whichever one you spend the most time fishing.
That being said, I think live bait has the advantage of catching big bass. Take our world record for example.. live bait. And its because these older bass are more wary and no doubt harder to catch. Unless you put it's main forage right in it's face. It's facts.
My pb is on aritifcal but this goes back to my first sentence.
Use the search button there was a thread not long ago covering this.
Ned rig, fly gear
Yes there are buzz toads that float . Teckel sprinker frog and you can make any frog like this with a 3 way swivel , split ring, centering pin and the end of a paddle tail swimbait.
Whooops. I missed the skirted part. I meant ball head jigs with weed guards are very common. Skirted, not so much. Even tho you can add your own skirt ..
But if you were making custom jigs the ball head wouldn't be ideal.
I don't have any experience with the new craw you're speaking of. And live target definitely catches alot of hate...
I've caught a couple nice ones(3-4lbs) on their topwater sunfish that 85 percent of people seem to dislike.. I also have one of their lipless cranks that has more bites than any of my other lipless baits..
I've heard some good stories about the baitball too.
Some of their products work it isn't all trash. That being said, probably better off with a regular jig.
The regular is a perfect choice for your swim jig.
Menace is an awesome bait.. that and the rage bug are my favorites in the rage line up..
Although that rage chunk on a finesse jig is hard to beat.
If you're using a circle hook you don't set the hook with the rod you just reel and the hook sets itself.
3/0ewg will do you just fine for your purposes I assure you. Texas rig for the thicker stuff and wacky where it's more open. Even tho the weightless Texas does just as well in the open , snapping it around like a jerkbait and on the fall.
You can totally do that. I'd use 3/0 for 5" senko . I think 4/0 is too big and 2/0 is slightly too small but I would lean toward the 2/0 if I had to pick between just those two.
You definitely can do that and I've caught alot of bass doing just that when I had only one outfit with me bank hopping. I've caught some nice ones wacky rigging with the 3/0 ewg.
Some people want a rod for everything and that's just not ideal or even possible for some people and their situations. Make the most of what you have and where you are at.
Truly interesting read. Crazy to me that he knew they were on to him and continued to cheat with other people in the boat, going as far as tying fish up at tournament lakes when officials were checking the boats. Snagging in front of a new partner. The rock formations left when the lake was drawn down with the "snow bass" . Just crazy.
The author of the article really had his ducks in a row.
Blows my mind. Sad but not really surprising. What is surprising however is how long he was able to get away with it.
You know cheating goes on in almost every form of competition. How discouraging.
You tried a frog ?
Go super light with ur Texas rig like 1/16th and use a very slender worm like a zoom trick worm. And rig the worm truley Texas style with the hook imbedded in the worm not tex-pose and then skin Hooked.
I recommend a 2/0 or 3/0 round bend hook and I'd use tungsten for a smaller profile to reduce the snags. The contact with the coontail should draw strikes.
Also. Ten acres isn't a lake but it's a very big pond. and pond bass become used to their environment. They know when you're over head and the bigger the bass the more wary they become.
There's a 4 acre pond I fish from the bank and nail em every time I go. I've put the kayak in twice and didn't catch anything. Could be a coincidence but I doubt it.
I suggest you get out very early spring with some jerkbaits and traps, before all the vegetation blooms. See what you find then .
Try the jika rig. It's essentially a Texas rig but with a drop shot weight. It'll keep ur bait slightly off the Bottom and the shape of the weight will shake mud alot easier than the Texas rig, regardless what you use.
My best baits on it have been the keitech crazy flapper , rage bug, GY double tail hula grub.
So my kids can sell them for dirt cheap when I die. ?
Could you imagine the gold mine you'd be sitting on if your grandfather hoarded lures and now you have them?
I have 100+ rapala cranks/jerks/topwaters etc And probably 50+ from brands like SK , bomber bandit etc.
I won't need any ever again. I've stopped buying them but always get the urge.
