  1. I see alot of talk about paddle tails. I like a menace or a kalins grub.
  2. Have you tried the rage chunk ?!!!
  3. I get most of my bites on the wacky rig right after I lift it up. So, I would never do this. But if it works for you , nice !
  4. Every soft bait GY makes catches bass. I'm not sure if you're using Yamamoto or chompers or whatever but the hula grub is the real deal. I see them most commonly talked about being used on an open jighead. I like them Texas rigged and "jika" rigged . You should also try them weightless. No bigger than 3/0 hook for the 5" version. I've caught probably the most bass fishing these weightless they have great action just twitched along slowly. Color doesn't matter. everything from chartreuse , to black , to bubblegum. I'm partial to the rootbeer green flake just cuz I like looking at it ? . They all catch fish, awesome bait . Many threads about them too try searching in the fishing tackle forum and you'll find more than you even want to read about these
  5. I have a BUNCH of x-raps of all styles (shallow, shad, countdown) and not a single one has a sure set hook on it. I actually took a couple off my DTs and put them on a couple poppers. I heard someone call them sure snag hooks ?. I like em but they do get hung up more often and nowhere near a necessity for me .
  6. Yessir I'm aware. I'm just offering a possible situation where someone is getting vmc hooks and sharpening them.
  7. I use a lucky craft square bill. A local store had them for like 5 dollars so I bought several. They catch fish... Ever tried the DT fat1 (or3) ? Awesome bait Super nice bait but I'm not the biggest fan of throwing trebles at trees. Underwater stumps and logs are one thing but fallen over trees I'm smacking with a TRUE Texas rig and fishing right underneath it.
  8. Some baits , like rapala ... Come with the vmc hooks.. So he may be buying a lure that comes with said hooks attached. I've never had an issue with them
  9. @NYWayfarer my jacket won't die ! It's faded and the cuffs are pretty worn. But it's the real deal. Not the cheapest jacket by any means but no where near the most expensive. Similar to most lews reels.
  10. Lol par to me, means standard. If lews is NOT UP TO PAR... So is my Carhartt jacket (that I've had for 15 years) Just because something isn't the most expensive doesn't mean it's not quality. There's always a market for extra expensive items in nearly every thing on this Earth, the rich (or well off) want it this way so they can have items "Joe" can't afford. Catch me out there with my sub-par truck , in my sub-par kayak, with my sub-par combo , catching bass just like you.
  11. It's from all the turnovers all the vegetation/leaves from fall decomposing over the years... Some beasts live in those ponds ! Ohio State record was caught In one.
  12. So do you not fish farm ponds ? Most of them I've been to have ALOT of muck on the bottom. Not something I'd Wade, but definitely somewhere I'd want to fish.
  13. 85 percent of my clothes come from Walmart. Wrangler , Dickey's, Hanes etc. Ive never had a problem finding a girlfriend so I could care less what other males think about what I'm wearing on the water.
  14. I'm shocked at some of the responses. You're telling me you're worried about what total strangers think of you? Everyone's got something to say but 95 percent of them keep it to their selves anyway. Anyone who would judge me on the shirt I was wearing I don't want anything to do with anyway.
  15. Yea, it's balsa. And is very buoyant.
  16. @Big Rick Not just mepps , inline spinners in general. I'm not self appointed anything... And ok most crankbaits float but are still just as prone to snagging when you're working the lure... I wouldn't fish them where they are prone to being snagged and they don't sink like a rock either they come in all kinds of weights and you're supposed to keep it moving anyway lol.
  17. @Big Rick Iwas just baffled and very curious about anybodys dislike of the mepps lure. Unfortunately, I'm not old enough to appreciate your tombstone reference. Lol. I'm aware of it but never watched it. I also don't like your reasoning for not liking them. Because then you would dislike all treble hook lures , any place you're getting a mepps caught up those same places would treat a crankbait the same way.. Cool thing about bass fishing is there are 101 ways to catch em. I don't use mepps anymore for bass for that reason.. it literally may be the best all species lure to exist though.
  18. Ok so I creeped on your profile because you didn't respond... And you were active 2 hours ago... How can you hate something without reason? Troll ?
  19. I'm assuming you're bank fishing. There is no one answer for your retrieves on the jerkbait or the jig. You must figure that out and it not only changes with season but also by day/ area and location. Another cold water favorite of mine is a lipless crankbait. You choose the brand, nearly every company has one.. I've had the best luck with something chrome or gold.
  20. Rapalas came to my mind too, before I even opened the thread. If they're feeding on perch many lures will do. Try a swim jig with a menace trailer. Or a curly tail grub etc.
  21. I mean,i was just stating what I've caught... If we are just gonna tack down every species caught on an in line spinner you can pretty much throw every species on the list.. musky , walleye.. etc
  22. Do you hate all in-line spinners or just mepps ? I've personally caught bass, pike, perch, crappie, bluegill AND catfish on mepps spinners. I have never had one other lure catch as many species for me ever. If I could only be stuck with one lure to feed myself I would choose the inline spinner, hands down . What's to hate ?
  23. When would you use it over the other two ? Or do you feel there is no difference honestly and they all catch fish. ?! I feel like usually rotating similar plastics is for the fisherman's pleasure.
  24. I'd love to see anybody step up and say they HATE mepps spinners lol.
  25. Jerkbaits are awesome. Definitely not too big. Also , Slow that jig down when it gets cold. And use a trailer that has less action. Jigs work year round.
